I just wanted to let you know that I got sick in Can Tho about four years ago and I couldn’t have asked for better service. I went to a new hospital out by Big C. I paid cash but they did all kinds of test and I spent the night in private room plus medicine when I left. Now there wasn’t any English speaking people but my girlfriend took care of that. Altogether it cost about $140. Heck I can’t even walk thru the door at hospital here in Florida for that. The people were so nice. Of course I am older and wiser now, I hope, and I started getting insurance to cover me while I’m there about three months at a time. I just love it there and wish I could stay longer. Thanks for doing this on health insurance. It’s very important for everyone.

Thank you for sharing anh Duong. I had a colonoscopy done in Can tho City in 2019 because my insurance in the US does not cover the test for people under 50 years old. The only thing I found inconvenient is the lack of privacy because there are 3 beds in the same room and there is no curtain between beds to provide privacy but since they do the testing for men and women separately it wasn’t a big deal. Everything else was great and I paid just about $75 dollars for the test. That already included anesthesia to help me sleep during the procedure and they had the anesthesiologist sitting at my bed to monitor me while they performed the test. I hope with so many Viet Kieu coming to Vietnam for healthcare now that they do not cause the price to go up for the local. Vietnam does not have all the state of the art technology as developed nations but the quality of care and the skill of the doctors are pretty advanced.

Did you go to the government hospital in can tho or the newer one out by big c. The newer one you can get a private room or shared room. It is really nice.

I suffered a torn retina in Vietnam a few months ago. I attended the local hospital in Hoi An where they could not help me. I subsequently flew to Hanoi where an international eye hospital provided a much better standard of care. The staff there were highly trained and English speaking. I had to pay up front and total cost for assessment and laser treatment was insignificant by Australian standards, around AUD 250. The condition was stabilised enabling me to fly back to Australia, although I did have to have a subsequent operation where I could not fly for four weeks afterwards.

i am so glad that i was able to know all of this. my parents being born in Vietnam. When my dad got really sick of cancer. I realize how important it was to get good quality healthcare. they have so many people at the hospitals. They are way too over populated and that is another reason for why I see it's not easy to see a doctor right away. I believe everyone deserves good quality healthcare regardless of how much money you have. We all want good health, and to getting good proper treatment is vital for older people especially when they are suffering from chronic illnesses

I was impressed with the hospital I went to in Ho Chi Minh City next to the medical school. They had the COVID testing set up next to the soccer ⚽️ field. We sat on the bleachers and waited for our test results.

Goodday Ken, Great video & very informative especially the pricing. Compared to Australia especially dental Vietnam is light years ahead. When I was last in Vietnam in 2019, I got a filling & a detail clean for $25 Aussie dollars & quoted $50 Aussie Dollars to remove each wisdom tooth. Clean, professional, caring & that is why I will return to Vietnam regarding my teeth. Just to get a filling in Australia you are looking at $ 300 minimum. Great video thank you Ken. 👍 Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤

I am disappointed he did not recommend any private health insurances for expats or mentioned any private hospitals in HCMC. At least give expats some information on where and how to buy private health insurances. He keeps plugging his Vietnamese citizenship services which cost around $100-1500 dollars something you can do back in the states for $500😅😂😅

Thank you for saving me some time. I'm American, but thinking of making a permanent move to Hanoi later this year. One big "if," however, is the affordability and, of course, availability of medical care as well as insurance plans for expats. This video would've wasted my time as well.
