I had lived and worked in Vietnam as well as many countries in Asia for more than 17 years until my retirement 4 years ago, and moved back to the states to be near grandchildren. One thing that I have to tell you that the streets in Vietnam always look chaos about to happen, but it magically sorts it out without the help any traffic polices. If it happens in the US, or any Western countries, we definitely see some fighting or shooting.

In my opinion . Ho Chi Minh City is one of the most lawless traffic rules in the world , but amazingly drivers of all ages manage to drive and get through horrible traffics every busy day; 7 days a week. Because Ho Chi Minh is Metropolitan city with an extreme highly population density, and store front businesses blocks after blocks, and from one municipality to the others. The good news is... I think the Vietnamese are still the best driver in the world. I drove in Canada over 25 years, but I wouldn't dare to drive after mid-night.
