In today's episode I arrive in Ho Chi Minh city, after a 4.5hr ride from the town of Phan Thiet. I check out some strange hotels until finally getting an appartment in district 1. I explore the streets and train at a big gym.
The next day I explore the history of Saigon, the independence palace, war remnants museum and much more. Later in the evening I go for a Muay Thai training session with a local Vietnamese guy! In the evening I find the biggest hotel rooftop pool in Vietnam. Hotel La Vela.

Actually, the re-education camp kept those people still alive. Most south citizens hated south government employees and soldiers cause of the loss of their family. Luckily for them, they weren't tried by a military court or personally retaliated against. And while they were there, our poor people had to continue fighting against China and Pol Pot, while also feeding them. Their meals were more complete than ours. Only those with opposing ideas stayed there for a long time, the rest only came to report within a day or after a few days and then returned. After all the wars over, Vietnam normalized the relation with US. We also had created conditions for them to leave legally. I don't get what else they want after those crimes they committed against their own people. Not to mention the cowardly way they left the country when it was poor. In the entire the south at that time, apart from a few sq kilometers in Saigon, all the land hadn't been reclaimed much. Those who went into the new economic zones program at that time, now many of them are rich people from the land they reclaimed. And not only the southerners went, but also the northern and central people participated in that program. And Saigon isn't the old name but is part of the merger of neighboring lands and cities to form Ho Chi Minh City today. Of course, there's no problem calling Saigon familiarly. But calling the entire vast city of Ho Chi Minh City is Saigon means those people are just shameless ignorant ones. Hope life in Vietnam is suitable and comfortable for u. We'll continue to build our country greater day by day. Welcome to Vietnam. Your Vietnamese pronunciation is pretty good by the way.

Cross the Saigon river to visit the other side of HCM city ( Saigon ). You will see a different Saigon, not many tourists there. The other side of the river there is a tallest building in Saigon called Landmark 81. You can see the beautiful sunset at the top of the tower. I think you should see all faces in HCM city rich and poor. Central Saigon aeria is not really Saigon, only for tourists such as District 1, 4, 10.... Thank you for sharing this wonderful video. Take care and stay safe. Big hug from Canada 🇨🇦

Hi Liam, after the US withdrew the troops, the US ration the weaponry supplies. I believe toward the fall of Saigon, the US house agreed to provide military aid to South VN. However, Senator Biden was voted NO so the military aid died on congress floor which was directly stop supplying ammunition bullets to South Vietnam. Imaging with full US military presented the South VN already struggled to fight the communist. Without the US military The South VN tried their best for another two years to keep the country safe from Communist by fight communist whichever they had but eventually run out of bullets and you know gun without bullets...equal surrender. Meanwhile the Communist got full support abundantly weaponry from their bloc Chinese Communist, Russian Communist... One thing to learn, during the war, the South VN government has asked US to independently make their own bullets, weapons... but the US WOULD NOT ALLOW. Which now I believe US only to use WWII surplus weaponry in VN in order to make the new ones better and that is the reason why US not allow any other countries to make their weapons so US can supply/ sell the surplus (Old) weapon to the allies. (See IRAQ war, Afghanistan war, Ukraine war). So what we have learned?

Plenty of weapons which is why the senator didn't allow another aids , infact so much ammunition was supply to the south , we still use us made ammunition after we use them for 2 war after Vietnam war against the khmer rouge and Chinese , a war lasted from 1979-1990 😂 it was a myth made by south Vietnamese general after they flee to america to hide they incompétent, where the officer and general flee and left behind they troop every time a location was surround or cut off

@@jerryle379 ..lol your bs statement makes no sense because you just made it up . The Viet military fought the Khmer Rouge and China from 1979-1999 using ONLY American weapons left after the Vietnam war 🤣? That is the biggest BS I have ever heard. The actual fightings lasted only a few weeks , not 11 year span. The soldiers fought with mainly weapons supplied from China and the USSR, and American leftover weapons. And you said it yourself. The leftover American weapons are left for training. Training, not used in actual battles. The senate cutoff aids to south Vietnam because of the American withdrawal, not because the south already had enough weapon lol. Anything else that you want to make up?

Not having American troops supporting the southern viet troops near the end is one thing, not having enough weapon supply was what did the southern Vietnamese military in. They just simply ran out of ammo near the end. The end was inevitable. The re-education camps were mostly in the central highlands and in the north. In fact, one of the camp was somewhere in Ninh Binh. Back then in the late 70s, the whole area is called Ha Nam Ninh but it was split up into separate smaller city/ town to what it is right now.

@@liam.richards .. My friend’s dad was an officer in the south Vietnamese army and was sent to the camp in Ha Nam Ninh from 75-85. The camps no longer exist and have been since dissolved, all traces gone for good reason. They weren’t going to turn the camps into museums or tourist attractions lol. The camps do not exist in the Vietnamese history books. The Vietnamese boat people was barely mentioned, if at all, in the history books there. Wonder why there are Vietnamese all over the world, especially big Vietnamese communities in the USA, Canada and Australia? Google Vietnamese boat people. If you go to Ninh Binh and ask the 60 yr old ish or older old timers there, I am sure they know where the camp was. However you might and will get into trouble as there will be rumors of a westerner walking around, asking for camps that held the south Vietnamese soldiers captive in the late 70’s. They might think you are CIA lol.
