The building with vibrant colors that you love is actually reconstructed recently as the original palace was destroyed completely during the war. As you can see, the weather in Hue is extremely hot and humid, so all of the color pigments will soon deteriorate, and the buildings then become just gray and brown which makes it look much older than it is, just like what you think of Khai Dinh's tomb. However, you can imagine a Hue citadel in its golden age, with all of those palaces, temples, and tombs all painted and ornated in a yellow, red, and blue theme of colors.

That makes so much more sense haha. I was wondering how many of the buildings in the citadel were still so vibrant! It is really cool to get to see it as it looked back in its prime though, but I definitely also enjoy the faded look of Khai Dinh's tomb where you can really see the history. It is so special that we get to see both in Hue! Thanks so much for the info!

very nice video, and your happiness & joy is contagious. 8:10 Hue was an economically insignificant place with a sparse population in the middle of the poorest region of Vietnam. But it was selected because Nguyen's first emperor felt slighted by the HaNoi populace, who were still sentimentally attached to the previous dynasty, the Le Dynasty. So, he picked Hue as opposed to HaNoi - the previous capital with the largest population, as well as a center of Vietnam economy and intelligentsia at the time, out of spite of the Northerners. A strategic mistake that led to a fast demise of Vietnam.

I don't remember the exact time, but looking at times of pictures on my phone, we were for sure back by 6:30pm. I don't know how many days you have in Da Nang, but there are a lot of amazing things to do there too if you're short on time. We made this video of some of our favorite spots kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5rVe5tnbpmprrs . Marble Mountain is so cool!
