How and when will the British government forcibly repatriate 40,000 Vietnamese boat people? As the sailing season approaches with the expectation of thousands more refugees. - the British Government are still in negotiation with Hanoi.
THIS WEEK has been in Hong Kong and in Hanoi talking to
Governments and to the people. Is the Vietnamese
Government’s refusal to accept forcibly repatriated people
a humanitarian gesture or merely an attempt to increase the
£400 per head that the British Government has offered?
What sort of a future do these pathetic figures face on their return? Will they be welcomed home or treated as criminals in need of punishment and “re-education”? Working with the help of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, THIS WEEK reports on this human tragedy.
