I used to live in Hanoi a moth ago and I moved back to the U.S I miss Vietnam every single day since I got here! I dont know what I am doing in here! My happiness! My home is Vietnam now... Vietnamese people are lovely! (Im writing this while I just have a picture of my Vietnamese Girlfriend next to my laptop) I never imagined having something serious since I got to Vietnam... I'M GOING BACK HOME.

Thank you for sharing! What a lovely people. Friendly, well spoken and open minded. I had expected mass resentment over the war but instead found an open minded people that were fair and took complexity into account. They’re also surprisingly knowledgeable about the workings of the country rather than going off of stereotypes. If anyone from Vietnam sees this and understands English, this American is very impressed! I hope you continue to develop into the lovely nation you’re meant to be!

As a German this is a huge culture shock! Most of the people you interviewed seemed to have quite a positive opinion while in Germany people are very critical (especially about the US). Hehe, I feel you (auch als Deutscher ;) ). Here in Germany we think that the US people are polite bit not honest. Also the whole economic structure is build on hard capitalism without keeping the social aspects in mind (thinking about bad paiments, retirements and healthcare). Also, the states have a big problem with racism and gun violence..... also supported by one of the two political parties. I was in the states a couple times and like the country from the eyes of a tourist or part-time resident, but I would never chose to live there 😅
@JAMtastesgood2 жыл бұрын
@@BirneGilmore Disclaimer: I'm a white male so my perspective is quite limited compared to the different minorities in this country Yeah as an American I agree with a lot of what you said. However, the point I'd say is touchy is how racist the country as a whole is--there's this idea that everyone you encounter is blatantly racist due to media surrounding actions by specific people but this isn't exactly true. I think in reality, the U.S. is more open to discussing topics or actions that are borderline racist and have public atonement or amends for these actions. I think that it's through this discussion the country may be perceived as more racist than other countries, while it is actually less so -- we are just having these discussions while other countries are not (as much). There is still plenty of racism though, I just think it's about as equal as other 'Western' countries

Although In the past there was a very sad war between America and Vietnam, but now Vietnam actually became the country with the highest ratio on its people who loves America
@briancrawford692 жыл бұрын
@@BirneGilmore lol America has more guns than any nation and it's not even close, yet when people are being shady with how they calculate gun violence we aren't even near the top. The media loves to make it sound like people are just mowed down daily in mass shootings. Take away the gang violence and the gun deaths drop by a massive amount just right there. Also racism is not an issue in America but theylve to make you think it is. It's fine to be racist to white people now but most white people don't give a shit about race in America. Unless you grew up here or havekved here for a good amount of time then your view of America will probably be very inaccurate because it's distorted by a liberal media. America has social programs, the problem here is liberals have used them to keep minorities dependent on government and abuse them so they don't function worth a shit and most Americans don't want socialized medicine. It's not even needed if once again the politicians would stop being corrupt and allowing laws or policies that inflate the cost of health care. Bottom line is if you need medical attention in America you're not going to be turned away or go without. Also I think any nation that tries to take away guns from citizens shouldn't ever be trusted. They serve three very important roles. 1. Self protection, especially when it's a person that is much more physically weaker and unable to defend themselves just by force alone. 2. It's is the only way to fight back against a tyrannical government if it ever comes to that. 3. It makes the thought of try to invade that country many times more difficult. Funny now that liberals in America want our guns taken away yet they're screaming we need to get them to citizens in Ukraine. It would also be a fantastic idea for the government of Taiwan to start letting the people arm themselves, because if millions of people were armed then China would be way more hesitant to try an invasion

Honestly, I think we have more negative feelings toward the country that ruled us for a thousand years and kept invading from time to time. Of course there were many terrible things happened during American war but if you compare 20 years under American with a thousand years + many many wars caused by that country, you can understand a little more. Plus, US has helped Vietnam a lot to develop economy, that helps people lives getting better (for a major part), and maybe many other reasons too
