My parents were born and raised in Cambodia during the Pol Pot Regime and fled to Vietnam in hope that they could avoid being killed by Pol Pot soldier, one of my aunt died on their way. Til today I still have relatives that live in Cambodia and they would tell story about Vietnam saving their lives and country from Pol Pot, stop hearing thing from Internet and go to these places, and asking people who atually lived through this war and they'll tell you what happened

my father was a vietnamese soldier who participated in the battle with pol pot. My father's eyes have been damaged in one side, so now he always has to wear glasses to read. But he told me that he never regretted helping Cambodians from the Pol Pot genocide. Not only me, but every other Vietnamese father seems to join the fight for what is right. Vietnam invasion into Cambodia was a military necessity. KR army was harassing the Viet population along the border at the urging of Beijing. Vietnam didn't care about Pol Pot killing his own ppl, but it was just convenient that the Viet army help end the genocide. Just like the American Civil war didn't started because Lincoln wanted to end slavery. But when the war was at its peak, freeing the slaves would undermined the South and give a "noble" cause to continue and end the war. Chinese invasion into N. Vietnam was a political necessity. Vietnam was never a military threat to China. But because China felt disrespected (for various reasons), Deng Ping wanted to teach the Vietnamese a lesson in humility. Remember that during the late 70's and early 80's, Vietnam had no friends in the West, and a few among the communist block. By winning the war in 1975, Vietnam lost more than she gained.

"France transferred the land in 1949" This is wrong. France in fact was generous to the khmers after the khmers begged for them to come save them. Cam odian kings Outey II and Barom Reachea VII most notably ceded lands to the Vietnamese in exchange for aid against Siam (Thai). Did you know? Cambodia was a vassal state of Vietnam upto 1658 to which Outey II ceded 2 provinces to Vietnam. Then fhe eventual successors of cambodia kept on cedeing lands to Vietnam in exchange for protection from pirates, bandits and the Siam empire. Also, in 1949, there were already 19 million vietnamese in south vietnam. That's more than cambodia's population in the present. 3. "Nam Tien!!! Vietnam bad!" Nam Tien was a southward expansion with NO resistance met from the Khmers. The only people were the Chams but they ceded 2 provinces after a failed invasion in exchange for a ceasefire and a peace treaty. The Khmers ceded land to the Vietnamese, these lands.were unvaluable, marshy swamp land that was barely.inhabited by Khmets because it was uninhabitable. Khmers did not possess the technology to build and create better agriculture and aquaculture to sustain human life. 4. "They invade us!!!" Vietnam has never actually invaded Cambodia. However, cambodia has invaded Vietnam 5 times in the past, each time working with the Chams on the orders of China for a pincer attack. Khmers like to portray themselves as innocent victims, but this is not true as they have invaded vietnam many times but ultimately failed each time. Khmers don't even know their own truth of history but a fabricated one for a political agenda. Vietnam was never thinking of takikg cambodia's lands but focused on china. If the vietnamese wanted to in the past, they could have conquered cambodia much sooner. The concept of invasion and raids were common practice back then. Now there are international rules and law that everyone needs to adhere by so everyone conducts everything properly and respectfully. So khmers need to stop shouting and barking untrue accusations.

The khmers were eager to accept french rule as they were the ones who called them to help escape their eternal struggle of being sandwiched by thai and viet and were vassals to both. the vietnamese were the only ones who fought the french while the khmers called them to comenand eagerly accepted them to come rule cambodia. France had ceded takeo and kampot provinces to cambodia, 2 former traditional borders of vietnam. The french stopped there because the vietnamese were the only ones capable to deter french conquest. Thats why phu quoc is vietnam's because had the french ceded it to cambodia, french rule would have been disastrous for the french. Too much cessesion of lands of the nguyen would have angered not only the people but the royalty and generals, thus causing more war. Do you understand the correct info now? At the UN, China, the United States, and ASEAN pressed to have the defeated DK (the Khmer Rouge state) retain its seat at the UN, while the Soviet Union and Vietnam lobbied that Cambodia’s UN membership be transferred to the PRK. Countries that supported DK were motivated by different reasons: 1. China wanted to restore the Khmer Rouge to power. 2. ASEAN countries supported Thailand, which felt threatened by the Vietnamese presence in Cambodia. 3. The United States, because of the Vietnam War, wanted to see Vietnam destabilized. Because of American lobbying pressures, Western countries imposed sanctions on the PRK. At the UN, 29 countries (mostly Eastern Bloc or pro-Soviet Union) supported PRK, while 80 countries backed DK. By contrast, Vietnam argued that DK as a legitimate state ended with its overthrow, and that it had committed genocide on its own people. In September 1979, following a plenary vote, the UN General Assembly declared that DK would continue to represent Cambodia at the UN. PRK’s application to the UN was also rejected.

Zhou en lai was publicly condemned by laos and cambodia's representatives for supporting vietnam. Everybody saw Vietnam colonial ambition ever since then. genocide in another country, you would need UN resolution before sending troops. At least leave after the problem was resolved. They want to be free from the West. From that, how is Vietnam wanting expansion? smh No logic in that when you are being strongarmed. What was the UN to the Vietnamese? The Vietnamese just finished a war and then got attacked by the Khmer Rouge at the border, 3000-5000 civilians killed. It was due to that they invaaded Cambodia. Hun Sen beforehand asked the Vietnamese for help but the Vietnamese denied it bc they didn't want any more conflicts. After that attack the Vietnamese agreeed to back Hun Sen. When the Vietnmaese witnessed the atrocities that the KHmer Rouge, they were horrified. And for them being there about 10 years is because Hun Sen asked them to stay. Hun Sen feared that Pol Pot will regroup and build the Khmer Rouge. At this time, Pol Pot still had backup from Thailand, US, China. Them Khmer Rouge still had a seat in the UN til 1993. As a Vietnamese , I would like to give an answer to this question . Vietnam annexed the southern territory of Cambodia from the ancient period of the 17th century to the 18th century. You know, in ancient times the world had no rules and no international treaties created by the United Nations, so like Thailand, Vietnam is not wrong to have destroyed small countries to forming a powerful power in Southeast Asia. After 1885 Vietnam became a colony of France and the territory was annexed to the Indochinese federation. But after 1954 France was defeated and destroyed by Vietnam at the battle of Dien Bien Phu. With the role of the victor , Vietnam has the right to reclaim the territories lost to France before 1985 . The Vietnam War passed and China became the boss of the Khmer Rouge empire. They supply opium and marijuana to Polpot, causing this good guy to go into a drug shock and paranoid that with 10% of Vietnam's population he will defeat the Vietnamese army. There were shelling and killing attacks on Vietnamese civilians. Then there was the phenomenon of hundreds of thousands of Khmer people fleeing to Vietnam in search of food, protection and help from the Vietnamese side (I'm curious why they didn't run towards the Thai border). Lan and asked for help from Bangkok). After three years of defending the border with hundreds of attacks from the Cambodian faction, the Vietnamese army prepared a force of about 150,000 to 200,000 men by 1978. This campaign was successful and it took only 10 days to destroy 80% of the Khmer Rouge army and capture the capital. Then, thanks to the generosity of Thailand and financial support from the United States, China, and Singapore, the Khmer Rouge army returned and continued to fight. Vietnam should not have joined this battle, because we mistakenly thought that the polpot would destroy all of Cambodia. As far as I know, he just wants to kill 80% of the population. Thanks to this stupid war, Vietnam recreated the strength of an ancient Dai Viet army during the Champa invasions and told the world that we could not fight and defend. But the damage is also extremely large . We have lost 17,000 young people and millions of tons of rice to feed the small refugees from the neighboring country, even though at this time we are still very poor and short of food.

We didn't but Pol Pot was really an insane man. At that time Vietnamese army was so elite after 30 years war with strongest countries on earth , France and the U.S, but Pol Pot really thought he could win a conventional pitch battle with a bunch of uneducated and no serious war experience Cambodian farmers. The elite Vietnamese Corps completely shattered them in the first battle and all over after just two week, even faster than the French in WW2😂😂

Hello everyone. I am the next generation of Cambodia. Seeking the truth and avoid being blind by the lies. I want to say, I really have my deepest gratitude towards Vietnam. Especially retired veterans, or soldiers. Thank you for helping us. We are so sorry that most of them wonder why we don't appreciate their help. I myself grow up in Cambodia, see many people feel the grief of losing their precious lands. Moreover, it just has been viewed by most Cambodian people that Vietnam invaded Cambodia. My people were, gone crazy because of intense sufferings and war. They aren't the people of before. Even the end of Pol Pot regime, people living there don't come together a unit. Instead, they look each other as low and high. The rich have more respect, while the poor has much less. Spreading hatred to each other. Til nowadays, people use power and money to overlook their own people. Even if that so, I will help and spread the truth to my own people and stop questioning their own view.

From what I was told, a lot of US military equipment (likely some of their advanced ones in the world at the time) were left behind when the Americans withdrew. Though not mentioned in the video, after they were defeated, the Khmer Rouge would wage a guerilla war against the Kampuchean government. Prince Sihanouk would also form another rebel militia to fight the government. The insurgency would end after Vietnam withdrew its forces from Cambodia in 1989. It was like a never-ending and costly war for both sides

But it is so hard to thank them when some youngsters in Cambodia are deliberately gaslighting us. in the history, at first, what we know South Vietnam actually belonged the ancient kingdom named Funan. After that, Chenla - Cambodia's ancestor - conquered and annexed Funan. In 18th century, Cambodia was downfalling while Vietnam is coming. They are too weak against the Siam invasion, and can't resist the Viet and Chinese's refugees ( who finally will help to put South Vietnam under Viet's control). Chenla kings' sometime give up some territories to Vietnam to ask the support against Siam. Some members of Chenla even betrayed the king and give the land - which they managing - to Viet, to ask their protection against Siam,too. However, South Vietnam almost is the huge swamp and useless during that period ( we can understand while they Chenla gives up it very easily). My grandfather participated in the Cambodian battlefield and fought against Pol Pot, helping Cambodia escape the Khmer Rouge genocide. My grandfather told my mother about Pol Pot's brutality that still haunts him to this day. Many Vietnamese soldiers sacrificed their lives in the Cambodian battlefield. I was very sad when I read comments from Cambodians saying that Vietnam invaded Cambodia, without knowing that the Khmer Rouge went into a Vietnamese village and murdered around 3000 innocent people first. We had to sacrifice the blood of our ancestors to unify our country, and end the war. We have no reason to make war or invade other country. Vietnam we love peace, we hate war.

If you study the history of Cambodia as far back during the 800 AD or 300 AD. You would know that Cambodia is a conquest country invading other neighboring country and expanding their territory. Cambodian Kingdom or Khmer Kingdom had several War with the Champs kingdom, Dai Viet Kingdom, and the Thai Kingdom of Thailand. Read the Khmer Kingdom date back as 300 AD and you can see the 1st origin of the Khmer peoples.

If you study Cambodia history since 200 AD. You will see most of Cambodia land didn't belong to Cambodian Khmer. Cambodia have been at War with their neighboring country and attacking them. Whatever Vietnamese said about helping cambodian from genocide, invasion of cambodia is military necessity are just a malicous set-up. Vietnamese are always able to justify themselves to appear as a good neighbor regardless of many dark history and oppression on Khmer people in Cochinchine. In fact, one example, in 1813 to 1845, Vietnamese invaded the whole territory of Cambodia, and even change the country of Cambodia to Tay Thanh province. What i want international to focus on is not the argument that Vietnamese made, but the present consequence. Just look who coming from China to occuppy the whole Champa, who get the whole cochinchine area (Khmer Krom or Khmer lower land), who invade Laos and interfere in laos politic, who let more than 4 million of Vietnamese to live in Cambodia presently. And Vietnamese is not going to stop there. Today there are at least 4 million of Vietnamese living in Cambodia. One day their government will take this as an excuse that oh Cambodia governement harrass Vietnamese ethinic and invade Cambodia again. The Vietnamese intention on Cambodia and Laos is obvious.
