Why is this called "broken " rice 🍚?

@@ivychua4091 I didn’t use broken rice here but broken rice also known as "com tam" is basically rice grains that were broken into pieces. It has a different texture and originated from farmers who collected broken grains of rice that were leftover after the milling process to sell for a lower price.
