Your avocados are also a completely different breed of avocado. German supermarkets, and western ones carry Hass avocados by default, which are the smaller ones that turn an almost black green when ripe, which are also grown in vietnam. Half the issue with produce in western countries is that because it's shipped such far distances to get to a grocery store from larger farms, it is picked before it's ready and table ripened at home, robbing the(fruit especially) product of the ability to develop flavor. The avocados you showed off looked like Booth avocados.

Here in England, avocados are mainly imported from Peru or South Africa. They are very hard and you have to wait until they are ripe, but quite often they are rotten inside. It is so frustrating because Spain produce delicious avocados, but they are not often sold here, which is strange, because Spain is a lot nearer!

But that's not the case with avocados. They don't ripen on the tree but on the ground when they fall off. The quality of avocados in Germany varies a lot. I find the ones in Kaufland the best, they are relatively large and buttery and eggy. You can get avocados thrown at you in Turkish markets, and if you're lucky, they're very good (but not always).

Thank you for the tour Uyen! It's funny how in most countries the cheap wine is on the lowest shelf 😂 in my language when we mean cheap wine we actually say "squat wine" (directly translated) since you have to squat down to get it

OMG life changes so fast I kind of forgot about the sugar thing. I'm not Vietnamese, I'm your neighbor a bit down south (Indonesia). I remember when I was a kid, the only way I consume sugar is through main meal dishes (as like seasoning), in milks (they contain a bit of sugar, right), or when I get sick, my mom would make me a cup of hot water, mixes in like 2-3 tsp of sugar, and soak digestive biscuits. And that'll be my meal before taking medicine. I think it's just because sick kids tend to not want to eat anything that's not SUPER yummy, so sugar water and biscuit it is.

In the Netherlands we also have shrimp crackers that we always get with our chinese food (which is partially Indonesian as well because of our past). But for some reason we thought: make them giant rectangles, that is way more appealing then chip size. It's so odd, but I personally loooove them. We do also sometimes do get chip size prawn crackers, especially when they're spicy.

It makes sense to me that beers like Budweiser and Heineken would be popular in a hot place like Vietnam. They're light, refreshing, and not overwhelming. I wouldn't want to drink a stout beer or imperial IPA when it's 25+ degrees C and 100% humidity out there. I'm not fond of Bud or Heinie, but I also wouldn't be mad if someone offered me a cold one.

Budweiser, the original, made in Czech Republic, the birthplace of Pilsner style beer, is great. Budweiser, the american one made by Anheuser-Busch, is, as we Germans would call it "Plörrbräu" Bud Light, is flavored water, essentially what you get if you water down a Kölsch. Though I can't be mad at a fellow beer-enjoying nation.

This seems to not be one of them.

Yeah, I'm English and most English people who drink beer (I hate beer) avoid American beer. There's tons of English beers as well as imported beers. And no English person would drink warm beer, at home they keep it in the fridge and bars have cellars that are naturally cold but are chilled to make them even colder.

A lot of my family worked for Chivas (we're from Scotland) and it was always really difficult to get Chivas or Ballantine's, because it was mostly being made for the export market. Entirely possible that there are some blended whiskies completely designed around what Vietnamese people like and enjoy, so it would make sense that Vietnamese would stick to that. The bonded warehouses used to be guarded by geese (they aren't any more, I'm afraid).

I worked in a Vietnamese restaurant in the US & we couldn’t carry any Vietnamese beers because they didn’t have an expiration date on them. I guess the US insisted on this to keep inventory fresh. Not sure if it’s still a thing here. Anyway my boss would bring some for the employees & we all loved it!!

pls no. Beer, along with coffee, shouldn't be spoiled by artificial flavor crap. They're good as they are.

Germany has purity laws for beer. If they want something like a Kriek they have to go to Belgium.
