It's a toss up for me what I like better. In the early days the show made the most sense because the rawness and supposed unprofessionalism was more believable, which they certainly played up to savage effect; but in the late 80s when they where clearly on fire it had an additional momentum and it was even more absurd because you were firmly *understood* to be in on the joke and they didn't have to give you a wink and a nod in any way. It became blatant, which for awhile made it seem even wilder. Obviously the writers in the late 80s and early 90s were unstoppable as well.
