AnimalWonders Montana... things have changed since I asked and you posted... I no longer am a 4H leader with cavies.. I was sad to see my kids go but i get updates from their parents and they are doing very well. last summer a e petting zoo group near me came to do a kids weekend.. and even though we don't have kids yet we went.. my boyfriend got to meet a Patagonian cavy for the first time. He now understands why I'm so obsessed with them!! He loved him. when and if we ever make it to Montana we will be sure to find a show and go watch. would love to meet chili pepper and of course you :)

I'm guessing since this is an older vid that you may not see this, but what do you do with Chili Pepper in the winters for activity? I've seen care instructions saying they need essentially a play yard, preferably outside, for at least part of the time. But your place is in Montana, which gets winters like I do here in Wisconsin. I can't imagine they're a cold hardy species, are they?

Hey Jessi! How do I get my rabbit more comfortable being held? She absolutely hates being picked up but sometimes it's necessary. How do I make her more comfortable so she doesn't hate it as much? Also I have two enclosures, one outside and one in my room. She loves the one in my room and spends most of her time there. On the other hand she doesn't like being put in the outside enclosure very much. Why might she feel so uncomfortable in her playpen outside? Could it be that she doesn't like being moved? Any advice is greatly appreciated! Tell cheeks I said hi by the way ;)

Hi!I have a question. Some time ago I bought a chinchilla and my boyfriend has a dwarf rabbit. We plan to move in together. We wanted to give one room to our pets. But I heard that I can't do this because of cuniculi. I can't find any good website which will tell us what it is. Is it really so dangerous? Is there any vaccine?

Montana, I'd love if you would cover the issues with Raptors (birds of prey) imprinting on humans that try to keep them as pets. Or even imprinting wild birds in general perhaps. Thanks for your hard work

I see woods and the first thing that comes to mind are fleas and ticks. How do you guys control that not only on the animals but on you as well? Can all the animals use the same flea/tick/mite medicine or do you have to use different products for different animals that get to explore the great out doors?
@JJMac8 жыл бұрын
For the animals that get to go explore outside in nature, do you use some kind of flea and tick protection on them?

Is it really necessary to give them that much vitamin C? I have 3 guinea pigs and I just feed them pellets fortified with vitamin C and some veggies daily. They seem healthy with what they're eating. Why do you add the crushed Vit.C tablets as well?

Good question! Here's my video on guinea pig diet with attention to vitamin c, kzbin.info/www/bejne/noOaqKGKiNmsZ7s

My question is where did you get the recommendation to supplement vitamin C? Did a vet specialist recommend it? I've also been told that carrots and other veggies are way too high in sugar to be offered regularly.

Hi Jessi! What sorts of things do you do to enrich your the lives of your snakes? Do they enjoy socialization/handling, or would you put a new rock or tree branch in their enclosure for them to explore? Or does change stress them out?

What are some steps you can take to make sure you're giving pet rats the best care? I lost both of my boys to respiratory sicknesses, but I loved them very very much and cared for them carefully, and I don't think I was doing anything wrong but I'm nervous to adopt any more now.
@bigbenhebdomadarius62528 жыл бұрын
I too would like to see more about rats. +Loralie, rats are very vulnerable to respiratory infections, and their lungs easily develop permanent scarring. I doubt very much that you did anything wrong. When you get more rats, just be sure you have an ample vet fund. Rats' lives are so short to begin with that you don't want to lose them any earlier than you have to.

I'm curious, how to you keep your animals housed together eating their own food? I know dogs, cats and parrots can have a problem with eating too much or more then their share so I was just curious how that's dealt with or monitored? I presume something similar to checking their weight regularly like with parrots or something like that.

Hey, Jessi, this is a possibly weird and/or bad idea, but is is it possible to get Patagonian cavies as legal pets? After seeing Chili Pepper, I feel like they'd be good pets, at least by what you've shown us.

These guys can run 35mph and jump 6' in the air. They spook readily and have very thin legs that break easily on barrier walls. We had Chili Pepper in our house for a bit exploring, the door squeaked slightly from a breeze and Chili Pepper ended up on top of our computer in a second. That's the last time he was allowed in our house. And as you can see, he's a very calm Cavy. I would not recommend them as pets because, for the average pet owner, I'd be concerned for the safety of the cavy in a standard home. They do well in a large outdoor pasture, or a large indoor room (we're in the process of expanding his space so he has a second room with dirt flooring). They aren't domesticated, so they will never shed their wild instincts. However they are very social and if you earn their trust they do enjoy human company. Oh, and they love chewing on everything they can reach.

Do you ever put cheeks the rabbit with the cavies? or has he met them? When I had guinea pigs they all lived in a big enclosure (attached to a grass area) with my rabbit. Is there any reason they shouldn't get along?
@HydeegFalls7 жыл бұрын
Jasmine hi... rabbits and rodents should not be housed together.. they have different nutritional needs. guinea pigs should never eat rabbit food and rabbits shouldn't eat guinea pig food. they are not nutritionally complete for one or the other. rabbits can carry diseases that guinea pigs can get and visa versa... all together it isn't safe.
