Viewer Questions: A Box to Display AC Current Waveforms on an Oscilloscope

Hello, I hope you are not battling too much snow in Canada. This is an interesting box of tricks and rather useful, I am somewhat puzzled with the circuit arrangement for switching the resistance values. If the line was on a changeover switch common then you could either select (L1) 1 ohm or (L2) 0.1 Ohm L1 > Common < L2 thus avoiding correcting the circuit resistance with an additional resistor. I like to use Neon indicators to show line, or with a diode the circuit polarity. Best wishes. Just thought that the use of transformers will choke or filter certain harmonics so not as practicable as you magic box. Fortunately in the UK we have a sound system with a three pin (1363a) plug that only presents a hazard if you step on it...

Nice box, but here in Belgium with our TT network, it can only be used with a not ground referenced voltagesource or behind a isolation transformer. Our Neutral and Earth are separated, if they come in contact due the currentshunt, our RCD trips. Another solution, we could use here, but then only for AC, is to use a current transformer. Grtz
