I recently reviewed a Vostok Komandisrkie watch on the channel and I found the watch to be a brilliant piece and a nostalgic walk in the past.
Model number: Vostok Watch Amphibia Scuba 2416/070799
My viewers left so many comments the response was overwhelming.
I share my thoughts on this new watch (my third Vostok purchase) which you all warned me about!!
I hope you enjoy the review and thoughts
thanks for watching
Peter

Hi Pete! These modern Vostoks are surprisingly beautiful, I like the originality of the way they integrated the date cutout. So basically Vostok is the new Seiko which means in five years they will cost 500 dollars and will come with mineral crystals and misaligned chaptering 🤣🤣🤣 Cheers mate!

That type of date window is typical of many Russian watches. It's designed to tell them the current date, and remind them of what yesterday's date was and tomorrows date is going to be.

The newer Vostoks are already using Mineral crystal but is still priced low. But this particular model (Amfibia Scuba) has a misaligned inner rotating bezel. Hahah. It is far from perfect but it is definitely a fun watch. Try looking at their new Komandirskie GMT watches and it is also nice. A lot of different watch designs to suit everybody.

Just purchased my first Vostok Amfibia. I haven't even received it yet and I'm looking around for my next one. I don't know enough to really comment on the watch but I do recognize quality dial calipers when I see them. I've had my set of Mitutoyo calipers for forty years or so and they have seen a lot of shop time and are still ticking. My expectation is I will be saying the same thing about my Vostok in forty years if I'm still ticking. Nice job on the watch review and the fine set of calipers in the back ground.

People aren't aware that the 24xx Vostok movements use the same pedestal measurements as Miyota 8215/DG2815 which opens up a massive selection of hands modding. A legend in modding is a chap called Favinov who produces superluminova'd dials and hands in many colours of lume for Vostoks, you can also buy off ebay full lume scuba dude dials which look epic and of course bezel modding is a breeze as many Seiko modding bezel inserts fit Vostok ones.

I have, in my possession a Soviet era VOSTOK with the CCCP markings on the back. It's crudely made, not as polished like the newer version of the VOSTOK. And I too have the Seiko that you are showing on your video. I have the Pepsi "Bezel" and the black bezel with black dial. They're great, precise and, as you quite rightly say, inexpensive. Great video as per usual. I also have two Citizen eco drive; a diver and a chronograph with a blue dial; inexpensive, well made and very precise.

I have a 120 case amphibia. It came with a black rubber strap. You are right about the holes in the strap. If my hands were any smaller the strap wouldn't have been un-useable. At any rate I am using brown leather straps now and they are much more comfortable than those silicone straps. Try a leather strap. I also have a 420 case amphibia coming. These are useable watches for everyday use. Not too expensive so anyone who likes these watches can afford to get one.

I would like if you had more wrist shots, with different clothes...with a jacket...outside light, something over dinner table. Those water shots are great. The reason is for expl...this orange tropic strap. It looks fantastic but how can an average person pull it of in public. With some outfit? You get what I mean. Like pink cashmere sweater...it look fantastic and you can zoom in and show the detail...and design...and put it on a table with rocks...and will look amazing, but like 1% people can pull it off in public. Slim fit guys with great tan and daytona. 99% wear it once and never again. Same thing here...I would like some context with a watch. I know I know...but I'm giving you the next step in your reviews. I'm getting a Vostok ASAP, because it's a must have. It has charm and character. However Seiko is still the king for watch enthusiasts. Not all watch enthusiasts/modders are broke enough not to able to afford a pricier Seiko, within reason. Vostok is quirky and different but the movement isn't great. I reckon quite a few Chinese movements on some Ali Express pieces are higher quality, never mind the Seiko ones. The SKX discontinuation has pissed off a lot of people but the truth is it's long past its sell by date. I'm surprised it made it to 2019 to be honest.

I got the Komandirskie "Airforce Commander" version. I love the history, the toughness, the reliability, the simple, no nonsense appearance, the mechanical movement, and the affordability. The strap buckle is too wide for an 18mm strap size and the tongue is too soft; it will frequently come out. Having said that, straps can be replaced and I have ordered a NATO style strap. In the meantime I am using another velcro type strap. Vistok used to sell the warches without the strap so the strap is just a relatively recent addition. If you wear this watch regularly, it does tend to be more accurate. I haven't scratched the acrylic "glass" yet and I have been wearing it for a month. Once you start wearing it, it grows on you. You will actually bond with it. In the future, I will definitely buy more Vostoks. The only thing that I didn't like was the three months it took to ship to Canada. But it was worth it.

@PeterKotsa
@PeterKotsa 3 жыл бұрын
@@markhiggins2793 I suppose its all relative. If your pay grade can only get you into $500 watches and you have several in your possession, it still classifies you as a watch collector. You are collecting according to your means. My first watch I purchased was an Omega Speedmaster..thats it. I wasn't a collector, i just had ONE WATCH! Then after scratching it in daily routine, I decided to sell it as it did not suit my lifestyle at that moment in time. With the money I received from that sale, I purchased ten Seiko watches (divers, dress, daily's and now I was a "collector". Over the years I have sold several watches and replaced them with some slightly more expensive watches just to add different variety and types. Regardless of the dollar amount or quantity, we all need to start somewhere. Hope that helps Enjoy the journey, as it is a hobby and a fun and informative one at that Cheers

That orange strap looks nice on that Vostok. I also have mine in an orange strap. I have three Vostoks already and it is a fun watch. It is far from a quality watch but it is a fun and quirky watch. And being inexpensive, I have opened up my Vostoks played around with the movement. Change the rotors. Change the case back to display backs. Regulated it. Basically having fun tinkering with it. You are right it is like a Seiko which everybody loves to mod but a more inexpensive and arguably sturdier watch.

I got a simple Vostok send from Ukraine. It is not even automatik, just handwinding. But it h a back that is screwed and a screw down crown. it was only 35,00 Euro new. I use it when i go for a walk and put it on 12:00 at the start.

I’m bittersweet about Vostok becoming more well known. It’s great for the hobby. But prices have quadrupled since I bought my first one. Great review matey. I’m glad to see a non-biased point of view that looks at all the good and bad points, rather than just the bad points. I believe this watch in the video is a Vostok Europe watch? As opposed to the “Bostok” watches. I think, and I could be wrong that Vostok Europe is the Koliz Company that buys the movements from Vostok and houses them in their own designs which tend to be more modern.

No, this is the original Vostok. Prices in the russian Vostok have not increased, they have different lines of 50-100-150 dollars, all on the original Vostok mechanisms 2416, 2432. And Vostok Europe - the prices are $ 500, the mechanisms there are Japan.

Nice one Pete. It’s interesting to hear your views on Seiko now. Whilst their modern Prospex remain my go-to weekend beaters, I have so much respect for the brand now, that I wouldn’t consider modding them. I’ve gone full circle - used to mod all the time. Additionally, they are no longer pocket change, especially when you move to their mid and upper tier limited and hi-beat offerings. These Vostoks are cool. I hope you haven’t spread the bug to me. I might have to self isolate from eBay. Ps. Vostoks have huge straps because I they were modeled on Ivan Drago.

I’ve had the worst luck with my Vostok Scuba Dude Amphibia. Bought it brand new. Took it out of the box and the second hand fell off. Had it repaired. A few months later the mainspring crapped out. Had it repaired. A few weeks later the minute hand went wonky and wouldn’t follow the hour hand. Had it repaired. Just got it back today. Wish me luck.

Hi, I totally hear you, I love seikos and have some nice examples, (my latest newly arrived from my restorer, a vintage Seiko 7006-7080 with original blue dial ) but my love affair with Vostok is much older, I used to sell Vostoks here for many years and my favourite watch being my Vostok Operation Desert Shield C1991, which I have replaced the movement and bezel also fitted an exhibition back , very nice love it and it goes so well. I particularly like Amphibian 200 meter divers , built like a brickies barbeque :-) Cheers ...

Well, Pete i didn't heed the warning either !! . managed to track one of these down in new unused condition which was a big bonus. These are way discontinued so it was just pure luck. Its on its way to me now in Australia. Now to track down a nice orange strap to suit. Pete do you know the buckle width of the original buckle ? Is it 20mm or does it taper. Would be nice to use the original buckle on an aftermarket strap.
