Compassion and understanding in hospice care go a very long way for those that are facing the end. Nobody wants to die alone and nobody wants to be just a chart number. Those that work in hospice are special. Most of the time there’s not only the patient to see to, there’s also the family and I know that has to be difficult on the best of days. Thank you to all palliative care workers. You do make a difference.

My husband was only in hospice the last 2 and a half months and I just lost him,He hated hospice and wanted to come home.I was planning for in home hospice and he was great 3 days before he died then he just passed..He had everything failing and had Luey Body And FLD and our son and I took care of him the last 2 years..I had a terrible time losing him and I still am for it has only been a couple of months.I still cry and feel guilty that I survived. We were married 38 years and he was a big strong cop for 33 years.. He came home in a container. So hard..

Hospice care is the most graceful way to be cared for at end of life. They do not cure, they are end of life caregivers. I would not have wished for my stepfather to have been anywhere else but hospice. He died in peace and the staff were amazing.

Mom didn't live long enough for hospice but the hospital ahe was in had a palliative care area. She went from icu to palliative care where she died peacefully 2 days later. Her nurses and doctors were awesome and it helped me a ton, because of my own illness. I was only able to be there 2x, once in icu and I was there when we transferred her to palliative care. I saw her 2 days before she died, but the nurses loved her and checked on her frequently. They were also great with me, and I'm proud Canada has this ability of palliative care in hospitals for those too I'll to be taken from hospital. Her room in palliative care was bright and very large and she had a floor to ceiling glass wall. She died 7 months ago but I miss the support I had of the palliative care staff which was no longer available, and feel very much alone in my grief. God bless y'all and RIP to our dear loved ones who have gone on ahead.

I was a hospice social worker and so many people do not understand what hospice is. Many people who are unhappy with Hospice, have an inaccurate expectation. Let me know and I’ll be happy to answer question. To qualify you must have a dr certify that you are in the last 6 months of life. If you live beyond it, they can just recertify you as long as you still meet criteria. They do NOT provide 24 hour care at home for their patients. That is something the family does or they can hire a provider. Hospice does not do that service. Disability does not equal Hospice. Many disabled people live long happy lives.

I'm watching this because my mom died in hospice in the hospital. Her room was beautiful and her carers were lovely. Sadly she died 2 days after she went in. I live in a nursing home but when I get to that state would rather go to hospice than die here.

This is a very poignant, valuable program valuable for all ages. It's so important to have the conversation with loved ones before an event. Hospice programs are so under utilized in USA Culture, hopefully this program can help change that.

Paranoids should not conduct the affairs of normal people. Here in Canada we have Medical assistance in dying. This is a legal regulated procedure and is not suicide. It provide relief and dignity to those who suffer. I have included this in My living Will.

End of life & disability are two seperate things......That lady in the wheelchair sounded as if she thought end of life care was the same care as for the disabled. Many disabled people live normal lifespans & no one is planning to kill them! But keeping people alive who are terminal is the issue here. It is horrible to keep dying people alive who are suffering.

I sure hope you’re still around?? MS is gnarly, but people live longer now, with medication than ever before! Try to stay positive :). I have severe chronic pain all over my body from RA, spine disease and I just got diagnosed with another chronic disease that requires surgery for the removal of several tumors. This will be an ongoing process, one which makes me highly susceptible to cancer. However, I’m thankful for the life God gave me, even through all the pain and suffering. I’m not going to lie, I have some very very rough days, but I make perseverance for positivity as chronic (mostly, lol) as everything else! I hope you’re ok, please let me know 💛. Edit: I too am alone, so I get it.

That’s sad actually if it takes a death diagnosis for him to marry you that speaks volumes about his true feelings about u. She gave him everything a wife would but unmarried. Then he married her 6 days before his death, no ma’am his love wasn’t unconditional. She got a husband for a few days,🙄.

I think that it’s not incorrect to say that someone on hospice can live longer. It’s not intended to, but as an example, someone doing aggressive and futile chemo is at a higher risk of getting infections that will kill them than someone who is just allowing the natural course of the disease to occur.

My poor daughter. She has been giving me 100% of herself since my dementia has advanced. Here's were I think she earned her wings. Her friend since 4th grade called hysterically crying Myans hurt. Myans hurt bad. Her son, at age 29, had overnight become a full quadriplegic. Out drinking and 🚗 . Thank goodness and maybe miraculously the driver and the 2 in back seat were unhurt. Unhurt they say. I imagine their hearts hurt bad. But my girl had to make a decision. No insurance yet so no specialists yet. My girl got me setteled, fuck if I know when, and ran to Myan and his mom. The ventilator, the feeding, the turning. They do that while feeling guilty about me. Isnt she wonderful? I get a feeling of being warmed by liquid love when I think of her. I'm alone for now but I'm surrounded by her love always.

Dont know how the Staff sleeps at night..they been killing since 1982..started in France. They drugged my brother up..never asked him anything or tell me anything..he got there on July 9 was overdosed by the 18..he had a hospice nurse came for about a month too change his trach band then text me that the social worker n nurse manager insisted he be transported too Vitas Hospice in Wayne,NJ. They had told him he was going too get organized on his pain meds..he was organized alright. Nobody ever came with music.Even the chaplain was rude..Do not send your loved ones there..Its nothing near a dignified death..😈😈😈

It is wonderful you have a strong faith. What you DONT HAVE is compassion and understanding for people of other faiths. My mother taught me as a child to respect those of other faiths! “There are many roads to heaven.” Whose life has been a kinder more understanding life. Yours???? Or mine???
