The Vietnam War is a dark spot in American history. While being unpopular, the United States Government enacted the draft to send young men to the war. Those who were sent saw many tragedies occurred, which would affect them for the rest of their lives. When they came home, they were treated with disrespect as the soldiers were blamed for the war, not the people in charge. Karl McCardle was a soldier that was a part of the ASA, or the Army Security Agency. He was not involved in combat but he knew what happened. This documentary will tell his story and some of the tragedies of the Vietnam War.

SP5, 98J. 1968-72. 1 year training, 1 year Sinop, 2 years NSA Maryland. I wasn't a combat soldier but a cold warrior. It was tough to be a G.I in the States back then. The young folks our age blamed us for the mess in Vietnam. What I remember the most of my overseas duty was the personal dedication of the guys in our group to our mission. The guys would go to work early and stay late just so we wouldn't miss anything that we were looking for. I hated the army but I am proud of the work that I did while in. Our hearts went out to the guys in Vietnam, they were victimized as much as the Vietnamese were.

SP5 Roger Meloe 1965-1969 05H. We were the best spooks the US ever had.. The Army's S-2 division sucked. The ASA was fowarding intel to the various coms. I had 2 frontline first Seargeants send me a message of thanks for our timely intel. Both said If it wasn't for the ASA intel' their companies would have been massacred. Our reward from the NSA and the US Army was that we were disbanded in 1975 and Inscom was formed. I knew that the Army did not like us. Why? Because they did not have full control of us. It should have been s-2 being merged with the ASA, Not even a well done from them or a furling of the colors. Also the ASA was 98% Republicans. We are ghosts who don't exist! Vigilus Salutus

you are full of crap the ASA WAS VIABLE UNTIL THE BERLIN WALL FALL IN THE LATE 1980'S. I WAS IN THE ASA FIELD STATION BERLIN UNTIL DEC 1976. INSCOM WAS FORMED DURING THAT TIME BUT THE ASA WAS STILL ACTIVE.

@@KIDROCK-oq7um like I sai!d the ASA officially ended at 23:59 Dec 31 1975. There were still ASA until 1976 or so. Our people were used to train the Inscom people. There was alot of bullshit going on as S2 were jelous of the ASA. My Trick Chief was told that he would never make E-7 at Inscom. So he put in for Vietnam and contacted Agent Orange, Now he hsd a bad heart and was retired as an E-6. I also know a major that went though the same crap. He went to Vietnam and he too contacted Agent orange. The ASA was thrown under the bus. The Inscom half wits stole alot of our banners. The ASA never got a furling of the colors when an outfit is disbanded. The ASA was active till they trained The s2 people. The Army screwed us and now we don't exist. I got into a argument with the Colonel in charge of the US Army Museum when I bitched about why our history was not saved like other units that were disbanded. He said that the ASA was merged with Inscom. What a lie that was. In order for the ASA to be merged, we had to be disbanded and all our history the museum's job was to protect our history. Instead our stuff was left with Inscom and stuff was stolen and thrown out. FTA.
