Louis's time in Johannesburg was nearly over but he wanted to make one last visit to William. Having been cornered by an angry mob, then arrested by the police he was now back at home on bail.

It's true, but i know the answer: The problem is 1) The government is corrupted, and 2) People are not educated in schools to stay away from drugs. The society has not evolved enough yet. But it is on the way. The solution is to keep grinding for the good. The biggest part of the people of Johannesburg is good people. So if they just keep working every day for the good forces, the criminals will eventually dwindle. Because then it becomes apparent to more and more people how much Shit it creates when people live unlawful lives. I feel this was a very good documentary. I also feel that everything in South Africa has so much meaning to it, it seems there is a lot of things going on there, i don't know how to explain it.

A lot of people seem to think Louis is in a "bubble" but the reality is that he is playing this character as a tactic, as it is far easier to get answers to questions when you propose the wrong answer entirely, rather than just asking.

This might sound like hyperbole but I'm deadly serious...Theroux is one of the most intelligent interviewers who's ever lived. He feigns ignorance in order to exasperate his interviewee into "teaching an idiot" - he frames his questions and answers as naively as possible which disarms them and invites their detailed amendment. It's the most shrewd strategy I've ever seen.
@bobbybotha3523

I live in South Africa in Gauteng Johannesburg where this was filmed. He says the guys bribe the cops R20(20 rand) and he goes free. And that is 100% correct. Money talks crime walks. And the response time of the police here is close to two hours before they come. To give you perspective 20 rand is 1 dollar.

What Louis doesn't get is that property is your life, especially in poorer countries. Property crime is a serious crime, it isn't nothing to these people. All the things you work hard for and that enables you to survive and thrive has to be protected.
@Zzyzzyzzs
@Zzyzzyzzs Жыл бұрын
You give him too little credit if you think he "doesn't get it". He projects the image of a naive, properly brought up First Worlder because he knows the majority of his audience (who _are_ naive First Worlders) will be thinking exactly those thoughts, and so gets the people who he interviews to show why that sort of thinking doesn't work. That the world is more complex than just "Oh, crime? Just call the police". And I think now even those naive First Worlders have been learning those lessons for themselves, because they've been steadily seeing now in their own countries how corrupt their own police and judicial systems actually are. Not saying vigilante justice is right or the solution; it isn't. But it's a reality in many places where there are no easy solutions.

@Timelord22 words do matter, and so does context, to a larger extent. In the context of this video, The exclusive purpose of the fence, with electrification, would be to keep people out. Both walls and fences allow for access through gates. If Trump proposed an electric fence on our southern border, liberals would go nuts and it wouldn't have anything to do with the words "fence" or "wall". They both divide, and enclose, prevent/control access. And I agree that some people view the word "wall" with prejudice; which is ridiculous and sad. Do things legally, by the book, and no wall or fence stands in your way.

If you live in SA you'll understand that this is the only thing these people understand, to thrash the cr@p out of them. I support this man, because if you don't show any strength you will not survive. This is not Europe with cushy laws and responsive police. Very sad however, but these are the facts.
