One of the hardest working types too. If it's not in the air or on the ground loading/unloading it's undergoing maintenance.

Great shots of these Twin Otter's in action, always fun turboprops to see! I've never caught one on wheels before, only on floats so far.
@nybotor14 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's probably difficult to find a Twin Otter on wheels in BC other than here, since the only big operator that I can think of is Harbour Air.

At about 1:15 there’s a brief background cameo of a Vickers Viscount in original TCA dress! Wasn’t aware one such specimen still existed
@nybotor1 Жыл бұрын
Yes, that aircraft belongs to the BC Aviation Museum, and is on display to the public. It was restored both inside and out to period correct interior design and exterior livery. Registration is CF-THG.

Nice, brings back fond memories, of servicing Twin Otters in the North of Ontario back in the 1970s... and later, I worked on the Twin Otter line at deHavilland Canada in Downsview, where we produced the last of the 300 series. It was a sad day when the line was closed and the rights sold. 😞
@nybotor12 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, no matter how good the series 400 is, I don't think it will ever match the vast amounts of 300s out there. That's awesome!

Great video! The Twin Otter is one of my favorites. Cool livery on the plane at 0:51. Curious to know more about that one. Also, is that a Viscount sitting next to the museum building at 1:15? That's another favorite of mine! Cheers!
@nybotor14 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The plane at 0:51 was flying in from Calgary and was painted here in Victoria. It was just recently delivered to its customer in Easter Russia. Yes, that is a Viscount. It is on display at the BC Aviation museum and you can go inside the cabin. It hasn't flown in many years though.

What are the differences between a DHC-6-300 and a DHC-6-400? More powerful engines? Higher gross weight? Lighter empty weight?
@nybotor12 жыл бұрын
The main differences are more powerful engines, use of composites in certain areas, and modern avionics.
Question?W hat would it do on an aircraft carrier?😉 Vs a Navy grayhound? Interesting...

Nice video but toooo much wind noise. You need a dead cat for the mike,
@nybotor12 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yeah, my old camera seemed to have pretty bad audio with not very strong winds. My newer camera's built in mic is pretty good at eliminating it, but I might get an actual mic in the future.

I think Delta Airlines should get rid of all its planes and only start using the Twin Otters!
@BillSmith-rx9rm2 жыл бұрын
Seemed like an awful lot of very poor landings. All those planes were floating over the runway in ground effect for extended periods of time. They would never be able to land somewhere like Saba Island.
@nybotor12 жыл бұрын
Those landings are pretty typical for Twin Otters here. Because they need very little runway to land, they touch down late, and also to save taxi time.
@bgorveatt2 жыл бұрын
Test flights. This is at Vikings manufacturer facility in B C.
@ZtriDer2 жыл бұрын
The closer to the taxi way you can land, the shorter the taxi you need. In stead of landing at the start of the run way, for then to taxi 2000feet, you fly 1990 feet and land where you turn off the runday to taxi. As Nybotor1 says, it is normal to land like this on longer runways.
