January 7, 2022 marked the last time the CC-115 Buffalo would fly to Victoria International Airport. Just a few days later on January 15, the Buffalo flew its last operational flight.
The Buffalo first entered service with the RCAF in 1967, and went on to provide an incredible 55 years of service. This aircraft was well known for its extraordinary STOL capabilities, and until recent years, Buffaloes could be seen flying into small airstrips in BC, including Squamish, Qualicum Beach and Nelson. It was always a highlight to see one of these rare, colourful aircraft show up to YYJ, usually for a lunch break. It's sad to see my favourite Canadian aircraft get retired, but I was thankful to have seen it one last time.
