Viking Q7 Slide Gate operator with Omron Photo eye

Great video Marty. I have recently installed 3 barrier gate operators using the Omron E3K, and we are at the point of pre activation testing. Using 2 12v batteries in series I connected that 24v to the inputs you made reference to, and your comment on polarity. My lanes are only 10ft wide, and 12ft to the reflector for each lane. Only one of the Omron units would actually setup on the reflector (all 3 lights on) and would react to my blocking it. The other 2 units, with the same battery hookup, would NOT setup, no matter how I tried. The one variable is the reference you made to the polarity, as Omron does not indicate DC polarity, and usually this context does not matter. I moved the units from one lane to another, and the good one would work on any lane. Even if I moved a reflector in my hand in front of the non reactive units, they would not setup. Now my polarity was just the opposite from yours (I usually do negative left and positive right if not specifically indicated). I have scratched my 29 years of experience all night long, and found your KZbin video, and your comment. I am going back to the site this morning, and will try to reverse the polarity. If that makes the difference, my most sincere thanks and appreciation. I was also going take a 24vac transformer, as the Door King does supply that 24vac but I have not powered that up yet, due to these peripheral device testing. I called Omron tech support (good luck on their new phone system menu) to no avail or suggestion. Door King tech support was awesome, but he was confounded regarding this as well, and due to Covid died not have access to their hardware lab, in all fairness. I hope to come back to this video with good news, and will report the findings either way. I actually worked for an electonic security company for 22 years, and have had my own small business for 29 years now, and my partner has been with me since 1987 at the other company. I have dealt with a wealth of access, security, fire, ip video, networking systems and when I run into something such as this, where polarity is not spelled out even with dual capability, it may in fact be that life lesson that I have experienced over the years. Why would one work with reversed polarity and the others not... hopefully that will be answered today. Thanks you Sir!

Sorry for the late reply, did you try reversing the polarity on the power wires to the omron? Also, there is a switch inside the Omron labeled "Dark on / Dark Off", try that too. Try holding the reflector by hand, a few feet away from the Omron and make sure that it's lined up right.

They would only work if first booted with 24vac such as a 20va transformer. Then DC would work such as my 12v in series (25v out) but would not with DC first no matter the polarity, reflector close in alignment or sensitivity adjustment positions. Eventually was on 24vac on the Door King gate Operators but found out the hard way to go AC if I ever run into that again. Been working almost 5 months on 4 separate Operators with no issues. Thanks for taking the opportunity to check on this outreach! Lesson learned every day even when one has been in the field hands on for years and years! Thanks

Put a large metal- stop bracket on the backend of the track, photo-eyes should be installed on its own bracket, if people run Enforcers connected to the exterior of the operator it tends to shake and cause misalignment!!

Great video Marty! But does BLUE wore go to ATG (as in video) or to Re-open, per your voice instructions??

Hey Marty! Great video! Quick Q: at the 2:36 mark I think you say that you have it wired to ground (green wire) and re-open (blue wire). However, it looks like the blue wire is going into ATG (3rd spot). Can you confirm? I'm trying to do this exact setup. Thanks!

Hello Marty G so if you are doing an AC power installation for the photo eye would the power wires go the same way as you have them hooked up?

Hey Marty, I bought the K2 will this wiring be the same? Do i really have to have 2 UL's installed for it to work? When I turn the K2 on and try to open and close the gate by pushing the open or close buttons it does not do anything. I'm also trying to wire liftmaster remotes to it.

Yes, that is the one I have. Cost almost $5,000; worked only 8 mos. I was told it was " my fault" I needed security and it will cost me $100,000 to get the security I want!! Also, the chain on my Viking is rusty. Rusted after 1 year. It's a 2017; only worked 8 mos.

If you paid 5k for a Viking slide gate operator then you definitely got ripped off. As for the chain being, rusty, we recommend chain lubrication at least every other month with a silicon-based lubricant.

I just want to correct something you said in your video. The monitored safety actually came out in 2016 not 2018. The omron photo eyes work great, but man are they ugly!
