Surprised no one mentioned already but this is actually a cover, the original was written by Radio Tapok. They did something similar with The attack of the dead men. Radio Tapok released his cover the day before of the official release of the original. Awesome reaction as always. Hug from Portugal

It is a bit funny the amount of reaction videos talking about this sounding just like Sabaton when they had nothing to with the song besides making a cover. You can almost tell it is translated from a different language as some of the language phrases are a bit odd.

I'm surprised no one has really spotted this, but if you pay attention, they actually reference the name of the breakthrough operation that was to get through the defenses around Moscow: Operation Typhoon. I've seen multiple people miss it, but after a bit of research on my part, I found it and saw how subtle it was. The reference is there when he sings: "All the brave who stand against the typhoon wave." Again...its subtle, but its there.

As You already said, this song is a cover of Radio Tapok song. And Radio Tapok is known for making covers, especially for Sabaton. Sabaton allowed him to release a cover to one of their songs (that was "Attack Of The Dead Man" if i'm not mistaken) BEFORE Sabaton released the original song. And later, during their world tour, they invited Oleg (That's a real name of Radio Tapok) to sing that song at their show in Moscow.

Grigori Zhukov was promoted to marshal of the Soviet Union either close to the end or after World War II. He did hold the rank of general for the majority of the work but when it comes to military leaders typically referred to them by the largest right regardless of when or how they got it.

About "turning a tide/wave". Sabaton used this phrase in the "Panzerkampf" - "suffering heavy losses, the tide of war was turned" And, as other commenters, I really appreciate you recognized our Anthem. Just few from about 100 or so of "DoM" reactions I saw noted that. Fun fact: in the time where in real Anthem singing are the words of "be glorified our free Fatherland", immediately aftere these notes the "brown plague" starts to shrink freeing the Soviet territory. Also, several notes of anthem are heard in the very beginning of the song - starting seconds before German officer looks to his pocket watch, and ending when the Soviet officer starts to smoke his cigarette.

Hey Viking. Just clarifying something, but back then, marshal was actually a rank _under_ general. Zhukov was both a marshal and general, as was, for example, Rommel. The reason was that a marshal was usually only in charge of, perhaps, one or a few divisions, like Rommel being charge of 7th Panzer (aka "Ghost Division"). Zhukov was merely the highest-ranking officer in the field during the defense of Moscow, in that he had to use what men and units that were available to stop the German advance. Now, to put things into perspective, unlike Napoleon, the German Army never made it to Moscow, the Red Army stopping the German Army approximately 15 miles (24.14 km) from the city limits. And, to make matters worse, Zhukov had very little armor and aircraft to work with, as the Ilyushin-8 heavy bomber was still being developed; the T-34 Main Battle Tank (MBT) was rushed out to service, as Zhukov had only a couple dozen KV-1 heavy tanks, and neither KV-2 heavy tank survived (they were damaged or destroyed by the Luftwaffe, as they guarded the two main roads to Moscow). By the time the T-34s started arriving by train, Zhukov was down to only 6 or so KV-1s left, though he did have other, lighter tanks, like the TU-85. The problem was that tanks like the TU-85 were undergunned for facing the Pz-IIIE, Pz-IIIJ, and Pz-IV. The reason why the T-34, and later the T-34/85 (which was built on a TU-85 chassis) were so successful, was that the angled armor of the tank could deflect all but the most direct of shots -- hugely increasing battlefield survivability. There are also stories of how Russian mechanics actually repaired damaged, but not destroyed, German Panzers in the field, and got them running again, to be used against the German army. Can you imagine: Using a tank in combat, it gets damaged, and you bail out, only to face your own tank later, only because the enemy repaired it, and got it working again? That would be one hell of a psychological blow, you ask me, lol. Well, Viking, now you know a little bit more about the history of the Eastern Front during World War II! Cheers!

Here's a fact to think about: in one battle for Moscow, Russians died more than twice as many times as Americans died during the entire Second World War. So that you understand what was happening there. In figures, it looks like this: The Germans-killed, wounded and missing more than 500 thousand people, 1.3 thousand tanks, 2.5 thousand guns and other equipment, the Russians-Irretrievable losses amounted to 936,644 people, sanitary-898,689 people.

I was a bit disappointed with the music video. The look of it just kinda reminded me of a documentary from the 90's where they didn't wanna buy original footage, so instead the made some on their own. It's super CGI. On one hand you have music videos like Bismarck, which looks absolutely amazing (obviously, they had a sponsor, so the budget was bigger), but then you have this and it's just... meh.. The song is fucking amazing. The only thing I really like about the video are the scenes where it shows the map, and it looks like the map catches fire and the German advance is basically burning the map. That was awesome.

This was definitely a great fight, though it is kinda hard to root for the Soviets knowing that they were technically worse than the Nazis. (Not saying Russians were bad, just the stuff Stalin, the Communists, the gulags, the mass executions, and how it spread to South America and Asia and what happened in those countries, it doesn't make me a fan of the narrative of communism) It's kinda like watching two evils duke it out and see which one was stronger.

@@VikingReacts You're welcome. I love history, and songs made from Sabaton have helped given me respect for Russia as a nation and a people. Recently, I've seen a lot of videos of people from different countries around the world reacting to the story behind the Star Spangled Banner at Fort McHenry (quite a few of them Russians) and each one spoke of great respect to the people who died and what they fought for. Patriots come from all lands.

@@patrioticjustice9040 Agreed again. It's kind of weird how many people forget to place history in the context of the time. What do you think of that?

@@VikingReacts I think it's imperative that we learn history in all its aspects. There are too many schools out there that deem history "offensive" and just let teacher/activists rant about their political opinions instead, or they teach revisionist history. My own political professor in college told the class repeatedly that 9/11 was not caused by radical Islamists from Saudi Arabia or the plot conceived by Osama Bin Laden, but the act of "right wing terrorists." Then my history professor was one of those "the Holocaust never happened" morons during Holocaust remembrance week, and instead made us focus on the Rwandan genocide of the Tutsi; which, while was horrible, didn't come close to how terrible the Holocaust was. Just an example of how I think in comparison to others I've debated. When most people think of the Japanese during WWII, the first thing they think of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki; for many, it's the only thing they know. Thus, they start crying about how "evil the US was" for doing that. They don't know about what the Japanese had done prior; the raping of Nanking, the massacre of Manchuria, the Bataan Death March, the cruel mistreatment of POWs, how they used villagers of the islands like Okinawa as meat shields and suicide bombers against Allied troops, etc. They don't know about how Japanese spies like Takeo Yoshikawa and Kokichi Seki spied on the Pacific fleet in Pearl Harbor for months before giving the signal to attack. Most people just say the US let Pearl Harbor happen so we could enter the war, which was a lie. They don't realize Japan had been planning the attack for months as part of a strategy to take US territory in the Pacific Islands, as well as control over Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii. They don't realize that the Japanese culture at the time highly frowned on surrender, and if the Allies went in via the shore and took the island village by village, city by city, the war not only would have been prolonged by months, maybe even a year, but so many people would have died, soldier and civilians (Gen. Korechika Anami wanted to arm civilians and children, even use training aircraft for kamikaze) Japan would have been wiped out; between the Soviets who came in and attacked Manchuko, and the Japanese belief of suicide over surrender. Something else a lot of people don't know is how the atomic bombs not only spared a bloody massacre, but it also prevented an outbreak. A Japanese scientist from Unit 731 named Dr. Shiro Ishii experimented in germ warfare. He tested his germ warfare in Kaimingjie, and intended to repeat the process via plague infested fleas on Allied troop transports, medical and cargo ships. It was called Cherry Blossoms At Night. This was prevented when he received word that Japan had surrendered. Like I said about Russians, I'm not saying Japanese were evil; I just can't support the narrative of the time. Rather than learn one single event and make decisions and beliefs around it, I want to learn what prior events led to it and why certain decisions were made.

@@patrioticjustice9040 Finally someone who gets my point. I fully agree and I learned something. I didn't know about the Cherry Blossoms At Night thing. Thank you for that!
