The consistency of your line work, and the use of positive and negative spaces in this piece is brilliant. I absolutely love how you’ve handled the interior of the serpents body and combining the bands with runs on them it’s really beautiful. Thank you for posting your work and your process.

On the texture, is there a rule of thumb? I get hung up when I get to the curves. I end up with longer lines that disrupts the pattern.
@DarkHorseWorkshop7 жыл бұрын
Not 100% sure what you mean.
@DarkHorseWorkshop7 жыл бұрын
Oh, do you mean the straight lines that zigzag along? When you get to a curve it takes a little practice but you do have to adjust the angle slightly through it.

I've been looking ALL OVER for a video like this! :O A lot of my artwork/characters have Norse inspiration/ties, and I'd been wanting to do knotwork like this for a while now to build upon it, but it's super intimidating at first glance. You broke it down, however, to where I feel confident to give it a whirl myself! I'm definitely saving your Pinterest board for inspiration, and thank you so much!

great video and also great work on the sketch. i do have a suggestion, at first i found it hard to watch due to the scratchy sound of the pencil at hyper speed, if possible is there away you can lower the back ground audio (it would seem off to not have sounds at all though) if you do future sketching videos.

I just stumbled across you and your channel today while searching for viking knotwork. I'm having a difficult time determining the difference between viking and celtic. Anyway, I love your work. It is very inspiring. I had a teacher back in college who would tell me not to turn my page when I drew. She said I should train my hand to draw in any direction. (She was a pain in the @**). I turn my page all the time and I love that you do it as well. I never saw anyone else do it. You'll love those pens you bought. Also you could try the Pigma Micron Pens by Sakura. They are a hair more pricey but good quality as well. I use both companies. Can't wait to see more of your work. :) Happy arting!

You don't use a bully stick. So how do you keep from smudging the lines as you work them out? Reminds me of Celtic knot embellishment with head and tail added. really pops out of the page, Super nice work. You bet I subscribed. Your viewers are looking for a class of pens called Technical Pens and they often come in full or partial sets.

Beautiful serpent! Thanks, I've been inspired to get back to knot-drawing and woodburning :) This video helped me to draw curves more "loose." I tend to press down too hard, thus erasing way... too much. Thanks again, Happy drawing!

Which rune set do you tend to use when doing viking runes? I always have trouble picking one as the newer futhark is very limited (only 16 letters) but others like the anglo-saxon runes don't seem very "viking like" geographically speaking.
@DarkHorseWorkshop7 жыл бұрын
+Adumbration of an alias I try to stick to elder futhark if possible. But my rune knowledge is not extensive.

Hi, I have some constructive critisim and tips for drawing serpents and vines. Namely, look at this video- kzbin.info/www/bejne/inzEmIOQiLGkbLs and use his techniques to get nice curves. A different grip on the pencil will help a lot. Also, if you use blue or red sketch pencils, then tracing the image onto leather and outlining it in fineliners becomes easier as it shows where you have put down ink-see DrawWithJazza channel for finelining and sketch tips. The only other comment I have is to replace silent background with music-you can get viking music, a good example is Wardruna. They make viking music and have appeared at my local viking festival before. A good song by them is Helvegen, a song that was featured in the series Vikings. Otherwise I find your videos very well made and interesting, along with a bit of comedy (the intro was funny). I really enjoy your channel and your work. :) keep it up!
@DarkHorseWorkshop7 жыл бұрын
I don't sketch enough to get out of old habits for my very low death grip on my pencil, though I'd really like to. I've tried to back off it a bit, but it's tough. As for tracing onto leather, it's a pretty straight forward process with tracing film, a stylus, and some wet vegetan. I love Wardruna, but I can't license Wardruna while making my videos monetized, and though I'd love to throw up videos for free, the couple bucks a month makes me feel like I'm getting somewhere with them. I've put some music in videos before and am trying to find a happy medium as to not annoy people. Lastly, I've taken a pretty good leap forward in my viking artwork lately with some well placed stippling and variations on fineliner work, I'll do a video for it soon. Glad you enjoy the videos, I'll keep trying to improve them.
