I've been looking at tents to buy and seeing how this one went up after borrowing a canvas one at Lilies and this was very informative as to what I might want to buy .Thanks a bunch ! I probably will go for a simpler style ,

I was like "meh....too damn big to transport anywhere" until you did that at 8:25 and then I was like "OMG that's awesome!" first vid I watched that opened up the viking tent like that!

Very nicely done on this. I like who you made it as a one man set up, How tall it this 10"? This would make a perfect addition to my back yard for the smoker. I may barrow your design and make one for the back yard this summer. Thanks again and keep up the great work. Dale

I have seen another vid on Viking tends which showed the sides tied on the inside of the A frame poles. Your version makes much more sense.

Sorry I don't. it's two central hinges and one on each of the four legs. the two center legs brace in opposing directions.

I would say check out this pdf it should help a lot. I am lucky enough to be friends with an awesome seamstress that aided me with the fabric work. www.hurstwic.com/library/how_to/viking_tent.pdf

Interesting. I would imagine that setup has become a lot more efficient in motion? One thing that I'm curious about is that a lot of tents that I've seen plans for had canvas floors. Thoughts?

Love the video as I am thinking of doing a viking style tent stall as well. Did you make the lumber pieces yourself? Is there a pattern online I can find? The canvas cover. Did you purchase it already made to fit the frame? So many questions...

I used 1*6*16 poplar fence planks and 4*4 that I added mortis and tenon joints, over 30 yards of fabric. A friend sewed it up based on my specs. You can look up a few different historic finds on Google.

@@BlackFlagForge Ok. Thanks for the answers! I would think that a 4x4 for the ridge pole would be kind of heavy to be supported by 1x boards. Nice build. Now I really want to try a market/sleep tent of your style. I've seen others with a raised area but not the way you did it. I think your way is much better. Texas Viking Festival is coming up....

@@BarryWatson57 A 1x6x16 fence plank is actual dimension though not the finish board material from a big box store where 1"= .75" These poplar boards are strong and I climb them to work or hang stuff. I did trim the corners off the 4x4 which was a small weight reduction but only for the aesthetic of a more rounded beam. i.imgur.com/gASIY9o.jpg

I've been considering getting one of these for a while now. The fact that it can be done by one person solidifies that. Where did you buy this? Did it come with the board supports?

Pretty sure if a bunch of Vikimgs were able to be transported from their time to this current, they would be wondering why modern "vikings" use such old heavy ways when modern stuff is musc better, lighter and transportable.

Love the folding work table! Do you have a link to the construction?
@BlackFlagForge
@BlackFlagForge 5 жыл бұрын
Sorry I do not, mostly its some poplar fence planks connected with two central hinges and each leg has its own hinge with a slightly outward angle. The central supports are free and wedge into place but could possibly have hinges too.

BlackFlagForge Thats a kick arss setup bud. Go big or go home right? xD Anywho, I'd love to have something like this for a quick spot while working on the longhouse and surrounding palisade wall (It's an exhausting dream to have when you're just 1 guy, but when you have access to the land, why not eh?). What sort of covering is that? Whats it coated in, and is it historically accurate? BTW- Great vid! Instant Sub.

+Storm kennedy Would depend entirely on the material you choose. This is a natural cotton and absorb water and you will stay dry, Wind has not been a problem for me other than one big storm where I had to add some stakes to keep it down.
