A desire to come see this part of earth has been gestating in my sister and I for quite some time. We are Norwegian on our father's side. He was a first generation American. There is something about this area that tugs at my memory as if it is familiar, which I can't explain. We want to put boots on and walk and walk and walk. I want to touch the stones and smell the soil and just stand for hours and watch the sea. I imagine sleeping among the stones and listening to the sea and the wind. I don't have any idea where to begin to plan such a trip. But I want to thank you for these videos. They stir my memory and satisfy a sense of going home. Even though I've never been there.

I'd love to visit Shetland some day. My American ancestors and Nova Scotia ancestors were from Orkney and Shetland. Love the videos/

I spent a total of 4.5 years on Unst with the R.A.F. I wasn't aware of any of this ! Too much time propping up the bar in the NAAF !

Very educational and well shot camera work! Everything looks so unspoiled...will you be making more videos on Unst, perhaps to cover other historical spots such as Muness Castle and also other places such as the towns and nature locations such as Hermaness? Spectacularly done, you did Unst justice!

Many thanks for your kind comments. If you go to my channel you will find three videos on Unst which include such places as Hermaness and Muness, telling the history of Unst.

Very informative! Hope to visit these places one day, so far I have been around the Highlands but the islands look amazing with their white beaches.

Thank you for your insight into the Viking Unst. Such a naturally beautiful, peaceful place, perfect for a hermit :) Makes me wonder why they're so ready to go to the Moon and Mars with their inhabitable environments where there is so much space to settle down in Shetland with the oxygen and water available. And to avoid destroying the land either, unlike what I saw happening with the Viking Energy Wind Farm :/ Such a mess, it will be followed by terrible, static noise when they complete it. Anyway, one day strangers will move in Shetland because places around the equator may be inhabitable due to the climate change and it'll be still unrealistic to move on to Mars. It makes me wonder how the Vikings built roofs using stone only? They must have had some wood available at the time. Cheers from Poland!

Lovely video but @1:33 there is no "rest of Scotland". We(Shetland) never officially became part of Scotland. Also Hamar is pronounced "Ha-mar", not "Haymar". My first ancestor came from Unst and his name is Hendrich Hendrichsson :) .
