From what the writers have said in the past was the whole point of siggys death was because death must pay for life and her seeing her daughter was her realizing if she dies she will be with her daughter again.. As for the kids, they wondered off because Aslaug was to busy banging Harbard instead of watching them, so they are unsupervised kids being kids, they probably thought it would be cool to wonder off... but they give some more answers to everything in the episodes to come.. keep it up guys!!

A lot of the supernatural elements of the show are played up mostly for the effect it seeming supernatural, most of it probably has perfectly reasonable explanations but think about the times being shown here. Both cultures of Anglo-saxon and Norse were steeped in superstition and religion, when unexpected shit happened it was usually God's doing or the Devil or whatever. The whole point of that element of the show isn't to definitely say 'Yes there is a God/Gods' or 'No there are no God/Gods' its to frame stuff in such a way as to make you think about whether or not there is. Its supposed to make you flip flop between belief and non-belief, which is also why Aethelstan is such an effective character, because this dichotomy that we the viewer are having to experience is also being experienced by him in his dispute between Christianity and Norse Paganism.

It was Floki that was watching Athelstan and Athewolf's wife in the shadows. Most reactors seem to miss this and I don't understand how you can't see it's Floki 🤔.
@Asa...S7 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's clearly Floki at 9:15. For him this is probably just more proof that "the priest" can't be trusted.

Wow I thought it was Aethewulf as well. Thank you for pointing it out, now the scene makes a lot more sense :)
@connorboyle25854 жыл бұрын
I 100% get missing this first time through, the shadows make it hard to tell exactly who it was. For a while I thought it was a guard Athewolf tasked with following his wife because the shadows made me think the clothing Floki's wearing was Wessex armor. Floki looks like a cross between himself and Athewolf to me in that scene so i guess my brain said fuck it and went with neither.

This was the first episode of vikings that I ever watched. I walked in during the feast part and my dad briefly told me what was going on. I think it was also around this time that Joffery died in GoT, but I'm not sure. I told my dad that I thought she was going to poison her brother, but my dad didn't think so until he poured her wine out. He just turned his head to me with his mouth gaped. Haha I always know.

I've always seen harbard as a sort of rasputin character, a mystic with no proof of his abilities with a sex addiction. Also, I'm pretty sure the kids went out to the lake because they weren't getting enough attention, not sure though.
@joeg64784 жыл бұрын
great comparison. Aslaug's infatuation after he "healed" Ivar leading to the affair with Harbard being very similar to russian Tsarina's well-known obsession with Rasputin becuz of his supposed supernatural ability to "heal" her sickly son.
@AllieB-11.11 Жыл бұрын
Well Hvitserk actually says at one point in season 4b that him and Ubbe went out on the ice due to Aslaug - to get away from her or something to that effect. It was during the scene when Hvitserk was saying to Ubbe that he disagrees with Ivar wanting revenge on Lagertha for her killing Aslaug.

You should keep in mind that the Norse Gods are known for walking around like humans Harbard is another name for Odin & Loki, so he could be one of them. The thing with Norse Sagas is that you don't always get all of the answers.

In terms of supernatural, the writer of the show said on a panel one time that it's not supernatural. For Christian people, they believe certain things from the bible are true. For pagans/Vikings, they believe certain things from their sagas are true too. It's visions as interpretations of the situation through their beliefs.

That made me question if four children are the equivalent of one adult. Besides that, and possibly more importantly, as a sacrifice it seemed more forced and self-controlled by him, so it makes me wonder if it even counted. Though emotionally those kids meant something to someone, so it works in theory. Anyway its fun to think the scene over and roll around all the interpretations in my head, so thanks for commenting. 😁👍🏽

I think it is about time that you guys accept the fact that this show does have supernatural stuff. And this has not been the first time it happened. The first time was litteraly the first scene of the first episode where Ragnar had a vision of Odin watching over him, it shows how Ragnar ir favored by the gods. And in the case of the kids, remember how the soothsayer said that Ragnar should not have more kids? well since Ragnar is favored by the gods they killed of Siggy so that Ragnars children could live on and achive great things just like their father. When all of you get to season 4 you'll understand that stuff more.

I felt really bad for not liking Siggy before this episode because she tried to be a mother figure to Ubbe, Hvitserk and Ivar, and I will forever blame Aslaug. Also I loved how they were not subtle at all about pouring out their drinks and throwing their cups away after Bergred was poisoned.

Salutations :) Sadly, Jessalyn Gilsig had some grave family matters at the time, so she couldn't go on with the show... That is why she asked Hirst to kill Siggy off :\ Original, he planed to take her character to future seasons. So they decide to give Siggy the respect she deserved and had her die a heroic death :\ Harbard bring momentary comfort and takes a great price for it. This time, sadly, the price was either the Ragnarssons or our good friend Siggy... Siggy was one of my favorite characters :\ Plus, I would say she was the most beautiful woman of all! More than Lagertha, Aslaug, Torvi, Thorunn... Even Judith, who is the manifestation of breath taking. Siggy had everything. And yes, Princess K almost got Lagertha.. Almost :) If only Lagertha was in the mood. It's a tough pill to swallow Princess K, but at least you got a taste of her, it's better than nothing...
