And I hate it when Eric doesn't get when Rollo does stuff. He seems a bit, I don't know, out of the loop. It's like he hasn't been watching the show. Rollo's only goal was to have power. That's why he always went against his brother, that's what he told him when he thought Ragnar was dead. It's ALWAYS been like that with him, and here is Eric saying it's not

+KayfabeTactics Eric does have a point though, Rollo betrayed his family once but couldn't follow through with it, reason because he hated the thought of having to fight his brother right? And now he's doing it again so the question is, what changed? And if i'm being honest i still don't know what changed, my guesses are either Siggy's death or that Frankia is richer and so far away from Kattegat idk.
@Leonardo-xz9xl7 жыл бұрын
Bhlack Bishop well; its a mix of both. While Siggy death only happened because the actress wanted to leave it made perfect sense in the show. Rollo couldn't betrayal Ragnar in S2 premiere because he loved his brother (he still does) more than he loved power and attention. Then Ragnar became more powerful and richier; while Rollo got broken by horses and lose Siggy; one of the pilars that kept Rollo in line (this made him even more jealous of Ragnar). The turning point was his conversation with the seer; who told him that the gods had greater things left for him in the future (you have to add that Rollo was in a terrible position at this point emotional speaking). This grew his hunger for power; and if you add his jealousy towards Ragnar; the seed for betrayal was there. The emperor offering him his daughter and lands was the last straw. It was pretty clear for Rollo what he needed to do and betrayal Ragnar without thinking; it was placed at the perfect time to happen (this also adds to one of points of this show: if the seer never told Rollo about his destiny; he would have betrayal Ragnar in the first place?)

What Rollo did was pretty smart and in character. Rollo wants out of Ragnar's shadow and as long as he's working for Ragnar that won't happen. Half his men are openly questioning his command, the other half are only following him for now. Rollo killing all of his own men was the safest course or action, don't want half your men switching sides in the middle of battle or one of them killing you in battle. Also it proved his loyalty to the Franks completely. It was his crossing the Rubicon moment, the Franks know that he can't go back to the Vikings, they won't accept him anymore. This was Rollo's way of assuring them he's on their side and he wont' betray them.

As it would be out of character for Rollo to struggle with whether or not to betray his people again, it wouldn't be a better story. Especially not when that guy said that half his people are angry with him. They could easily convince the other half and rise up against him, or simply abandon him. Rollo taking brutal action to quash that is in character.
@Jakokokoroko7 жыл бұрын
And half is simply too much. Since he was disconnected from them for many weeks/months already he has no personal opinion/verification of how many people would not follow him. Worst case scenario is that he would go there to find out that everyone doesn't want to follow his lead and it was only a trap to lure him out to kill him. (Which wasn't the case but still a possibility for Rollo) And even if he would somehow kill half of them that wouldn't really guarentee that the other half wouldn't start to distrust him as well. He didn't really have any option in his current position to win their trust and loyalty back so killing them all before even more people started to question his decision was a pretty rational choice for Rollo imo.

Hey guys just a history tip it’s not the story line they’re making up for Rolo, what Rolo is doing is accurate to what he did in real life, they’re actually just retelling history which is really cool :)
@annapires9917 жыл бұрын
I honestly like these first episodes of season 4 a lot. And I echo other commenters, it was very in Rollo’s character to do this. One of the very best things of this show is how terrible everyone is (except my boy Athelwulf, who is just half bad not horrible), and you end up just watching these people thinking “I’m glad I don’t have to live near any of you”. And yep, Rollo’s arc is to synch with some historical facts :) very nice Bjorn is so great - but I hope you guys notice his not so great traits now.

I Don´t agree with Eric (Thats a first). What Rollo did was so him, he doesn´t care about his people, he was even willing to become a christian for fun back in season 1. He wants power for fun and I definitely didn´t think this was a stupid move in the story because it makes perfect sense for Rollos character. Ofc I was sad about it, watching all of these viking farmers die, but it was not a stupid move in the story direction.

Rollo has wanted out of Ragnar's shadow since episode 1 of the series its easy to notice if you follow along. Rollo may not kill Ragnar but he would betray the fuck out of him because he wants everything Ragnar has. Much like other characters Rollo strives for fame and power but gave up and died inside after the fight and after Siggy. Ragnar never wanted power and fame it all fell into his lap and he acted upon it. And he is good at it. Ragnar knew given the opportunity and there is no watchful eye, Rollo would betray him again which is why he is mad at Bjorn. I don't know why they are so nitpicky with this show. This is close to historical context. There are no good and bad guys. Everyone is a bad guy, some are just worse than others - history in a nutshell. o and you can tell its been about 5 yrs because Ivar was basically a new born and now he maybe around 5. so they were in Paris for about 5 yrs.
@tykekai35557 жыл бұрын
Rollo is based on the real historical figure of Rollo the Walker, also known as Robert I, Duke of Normandy (the same area the Allies landed on on D-Day during WWII). He and his people were called the Normans (which derives from the word Norseman) due to their viking heritage. Rollo's descendant, William the Conqueror, conquered England and through William, Rollo's royal line has not been broken to this very day. This means that the current Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince George are all directly related to Rollo.

Strongly disagree on the time-skip comparison between Vikings and Game of Thrones. Vikings - basically an overall time-skip, the whole story, meaning every single storyline has moved on. Thing is, you have to figure it out yourself... thus the confusion. GoT - magically transporting people or whole armies across continents in no time, while in other storylines just stands still. Man, they butchered the series in the last seasons... hope George finishes those books before he dies.

WELCOME TO SEASON 4 THE GRAND!! The best season yet (If you don't count season 5). 4a is amazing. 4b is *AMAZING*... Some of the episodes you'll see are in my opinion, the best tv/cinema/anything moments of all time. You will know them when you see them... All hail our father, Travis lothbrok!! Well, Rollo was always an envious bastard who saw nothing wring with treason, if it fits him. He had everything to gain from betraying his people... But yes, after what he did this second time and the way he spat of Ragnar's kindness, I promised myself that i will forever hold a grudge against him. Great character, interesting plot, but Rollo is my enemy :) And yes, sadly Bjorn made two huge mistakes... He still needs to learn. It's not easy to be a king, Ragnar has too much on his mind and his heart... So now having to deal with Bjorn's mistake makes things even harder. 3:00 Yeah, Bjorn "father of the year" alert... Deserting his daughter just because her mother left and living Aslaug to take care of her (Even though she has nothing in relative to her). He could at least give the child to Lagertha (And she could at least come and visit her granddaughter and perhaps take her, since Bjorn is "father of the year"). But, if it wan't clear until now, Bjorn is very different than Ragnar: The most important thing for Ragnar are his children. More than fame. For Bjorn, his ambitions come first... Regarding Aslaug. "Why does she hate him all of a sudden"? Their relationship is ruined. She doesn't *hate* him, like, "can't stand him". But he stooped loving her in 3x01, despite that she loved him, because he got his sons out of her and there already... And then after the Harabrad incident, it became worse. She was a very lonely and miserable woman for a very long time and she had to keep all her feelings to herself, because she had no one to talks to. She didn't poison her sons against Ragnar, she didn't washed their "dirty cloths" in pupluc, to slander her husband.. .She kept and continues to keep everything to herself.

You know, one thing about Rollo's actions is that, while he did betray Ragnar again, he's actually accomplishing everything that Ragnar dreamed of with the English settlement. He's claimed a large plot of farmable land, which will later attract many more viking settlers and become Normandy. Like you say, Rollo has always lived in the shadow of Ragnar, here he sees an opportunity to accomplish something that Ragnar tried as well, a viking settlement on fertile Southern land.

For me and many more, 4a was the best up until 4b... It had a much more mature tone, the best acting yet and great moments. Sure, it didn't had tons of raids and battles, but that wasn't what made Vikings good. The show is not about "big shiny things", it's about relating to the characters, as they live life as we would've lived in their place. And 4a did amazing in building the grounds for 4b and the future of the show.

I'm a bit mixed on the finale, all the scenes after the timeskip are awesome and lead perfectly into 4B. The first half with the battle though kinda sucked, the Rollo v. Ragnar fight was great but the fact that we're supposed to believe they lost that battle when they didn't show a single Viking get killed after Rollo rammed the ships felt like a big fuck you.
@squashedeyeball7 жыл бұрын
grippingrope99 *SPOILERS* I actually think that this was a very well portrayed sea battle... They did show our men getting killed, plus most of the main characters got injured. So it is obvious that things went down hill. The idea was to show that Rollo attacked from all sides of each platformed and that gave him the advantage.
