It is QUITE OBVIOUS that Darnold cannot process things once the tempo of the game speeds up. There is a BIG difference in the speed of the game, once the playoffs start, and this WAS essentially a playoff game. I don't think that JJ McCarthy will have these problems, as he SEEMS to be the type of person who thrives in pressure situations. It's POSSIBLE the offense just came out flat for this game, but we will find out next week!!!

Defense kept us in until their spirit was crushed. KOC needs a short game and what happened to 3 steps back and pass? Sheez, that's how to shut down the full on assault from their D, as well as the line has to give more protection. All in all, I'm not worried as long as KOC looks honestly at the need for a short game. It was there all night.

Biggest complaint for me is KOC personally. Why are we trying to match the Lions on 4th down? The two missed TDs in the end zone would have been 6 points in FG and would have put us ahead, maybe even given them the drive they needed to just hold them to it or score! Defense did what they could. Offense was absolutely horrid all around. I hope history doesn't repeat itself this season in LA but if theres any team that knows how to repeat history, our Vikings do it best.

History just did repeat. We had a cake walk to the Superbowl with 2 home games and Darnold just put us on the road for 3. We're not technically eliminated but the writing is on the wall now. I would've rather missed out on those first couple FG's if it meant we could bench Darnold in the 2nd half. We were never gonna win that game with FG's. But if we would've went to Jones or Mullins when we were still close to tied, that game could've went completely different. If KOC could've done anything to possibly salvage that game, it would've been realizing in that 3rd quarter (or earlier) that Darnold wasn't gonna be bouncing back in this one, and benching him for the next man up. I get that he wants to be loyal and show his guys that he supports them, but st a certain point you have to be loyal to the rest of your team and your fans and let somebody else try to get something going. Even if it's only for a few plays. Darnold needed a huge wake up call, the team needed a leader to step up and shake things up, and KOC failed on both accounts. And I get it might be easier said than done, but what's the alternative in a situation like that? Just watch the whole season go up in smoke so you can stand on ceremony? You don't want to tarnish your relationship with a guy who's gonna be gone if he ruins the game anyways? I don't get the logic.

This is what I don’t like about nfl fans, if their team wins, they’re the best, if they lose, they’re the worst. The Vikings have been great, way exceeding expectations. If they had played the lions twice but earlier in the season, we wouldn’t feel this way. It’s only because of the importance of the game. Plus, one loss after nine wins is more probable than winning 13 in a row so for probability sakes, we have to throw a loss in there.

The o-line this year has given Darnold much better protection than they ever gave Kirk Cousins. Cousins had gotten very good at getting rid of the ball quickly and Darnold is TERRIBLE at that. If the Vikings had Kirk Cousins in this game against the Lions, they'd have won it. If you watched the 2 QBs coming up to the line out of the huddle, it was easy to observe the tale of the game. Jared Goff, looked calm, cool, collected, and confident. Sam Darnold clearly appeared SCARED OUT OF HIS WITS. And his performance reflected that to a "T." He was totally USELESS! He didn't throw the ball when there were open receivers. When he DID throw the ball, he MISSED them badly! FORGET DARNOLD. He's gotta go. He doesn't even belong in the NFL. He's been a bust since the first day he came into the league. Even in games that the Vikings won, he was a detriment to the team, they won in spite of him, not because of him. He holds the ball too long and he's not accurate at all. He's a HUGE downgrade from Kirk Cousins. If Kirk had been the Vikings' QB in this game, they'd be the #1 seed.

It wasn’t all darnold, sure he had a bad game but Koc was not adjusting to the lions defense which couldn’t stop the run, but we kept passing. We also need to have a better game plan at the goal line. Even though the defense allowed 31 points, I think they played good cuz they were on the field for 40 minutes and the offense could not capitalize off of defensive turnovers.

Unfortunately across the league most every team got away with what I am calling a "backpack defense". Where as Hock was basically wearing Anzalone for most of his route and nothing was called. Same with Jets and the defender he was against. There were so many missed PIs during that game and many others on Sunday.

Koc isn't throwing the ball but he is calling the plays, so maybe instead of calling for a throw 20 yards down field, we get some short completions to get sam's head back in the game. That's what I mean by getting him in rhythm. Also, no reason to not do more screens near the goal line or maybe running the damn ball instead of 4 straight passes to jefferson. The misses holds and pass interference doesn't help either.

Darnold did not play well, given. The O line gave him no chance and played terrible aswell. KOC has about 3 plays that are predictable and had Sam dropping back with no protection and did not adjust at all. Not getting a TD starting from the 8 and the 5 is indefensible. This was a very strange game. From our first play I knew they were trying something different. All of those rapid snaps trying to be aggressive on the Lions and you could see how uncomfortable Sam was with it. He’s a very slow and patient qb! If they wanted to be aggressive they should have opened up a short pass game and run the ball more. You’re really telling me that our O line couldn’t shake their coverage? Come on dude. The game plan was completely flawed and they made no adjustments whatsoever.

i agree, I think our defense played fine. If they didnt have to be on the field for 4/5ths of that game I think the lions score half the points they did. I also think our receivers did fine, their job is to get open and they did that. Its Darnolds job to connect. sure they are supposed to adapt a little but not when the ball is 4 feet over their head every time. Darnold showed he crumbles under pressure and why he isnt going to be starting for us next year.

The Vikings haven't yet offered Sam Darnold a deal because they needed to see games like this. True the Lions and their defense are to be credited for the win but there was a lot of times Darnold held on to the ball way too long as he has been doing all season only this game it was brought out to front and center . After last nights performance, I don't see the Vikings going very far in the playoffs, in fact I feel they will be one and done against the Rams but the Vikings have exceeded my expectations by a mile this season as I had them winning 8-9 games this season.

I'm 46, so I've watched a lot of GREAT Vikings teams do this on, or right before playoffs. Like everyone else, I thought last night would be the best game of the year. Seeing how they played night night, thats usually how they look about round 2 of the playoffs. I think they win against the Rams but that's as far as they go..per usual. Darnold cracked under pressure, passes were high & horrible. Vikes shoulda had 3 TDs in red zone,,and they coulda tried running more in that red zone with Jones & Akers. The offense choked. @@plantemartin7863 I'd argue it was a decent plan that could have worked if Darnold, Jefferson, Hockenson, Reichard, etc. had played even remotely up to their potential. A plan still requires execution, and Darnold completing only 43%, Hock letting balls bounce off his hands, Jefferson missing his spots puts this L, in my opinion, on the players.

Yes Darnold was a top 5 QB that season. But in the season you could afford an L... Yesterday it was do or die and he showed that he can't handle it. From now on there are only Do or Die games. Unfortunately, I'm not very optimistic.

Nothing was exposed. Darnold threw everything high and or away. O line was as getting beat and had Addison open in the end zone he looked and threw to a covered Jefferson. Addison only had two targets for 1 reception. Wtf.

The lions got away with so much pass interference and illegal contact that when they DID call a foul I didn't even care. Don't get me started when Goff literally pulled intentional grounding and got away with it then a quarter later they call intentional grounding on Darnold all while Campbell was on the sideline screaming it the whole time, give me a break.

Darnold kept dropping straight back and sitting there like a sitting duck....he should have been rolling out more some to the left,some to the right...if nothing else,when you do that you can throw it away without intentional grounding.
