I lived in Hawaii in the town mililani for 4 years and I miss it, took a long time to get accepted into the culture and to be invited to a family cookout and I’ll say this, us white peoples are boring and pathetic compared to Maori people, they are so family oriented and full of life and love and if you go hungry that’s your own fault, mad respect and love and just wished I was born into the Maori culture.

One question?, why is this dude performing Ka Mate Haka, a haka about a place he hasn’t been to Waikato Aotearoa, about a battle his ancestors weren’t in, in a language he doesn’t speak Te Reo. I’m all for supporting Polynesian culture but why rip off from another Polynesian culture 4,500 miles away.
@jamesbroughton76354 жыл бұрын
hakaboy6924 Tena koe e hoa ma, He mihi nui ki te Ranagtira Vili, kei kora. Although Vili isn't Maori his Wairua and Ihi is strong and I am very proud that he gave his best and in no way disgraced himself. Tino pai raua atu ano. As for the Haka Ka Mate, it's written by Ngati Toa Chieftain Te Rauparaha in response.to fleeing from certain death to hiding in a hole and emerging. Ngati Toa is Tanui, originally from Waikato but have resided in the Wellington area since around Te Rauparaha existence. I come.from a neighbouring tribe called Muaupoko up the road.
@hakaboy69244 жыл бұрын
James Broughton I am Ngati kahungunu and affiliated with Tainui and a teacher and composer of Haka. I agree he did perform Ka Mate with Mana although not protocols. I just wish our cousins from Hawaii would research their own Ha’a traditions and listen to their elders before they all pass. It is not good for them or Polynesia in general if they choose to just copy Maori Haka they found on KZbin and claim it as their traditions.
@jamesbroughton76354 жыл бұрын
hakaboy6924 Yeah, but many of.us aren't complaining.
@hakaboy69244 жыл бұрын
James Broughton ask any two Maori about maoritanga or the direction of contemporary Maori culture and you will get two different opinions. My comment is more about the loss of Hawaiian culture than Maori. We are all sons of Maui.
@tu.t72573 жыл бұрын
Kia ora. Was this Ka Mate? I'm so confused? I could be wrong? But if so, he's just done the most outstanding job butchering it. Or is this a war cry of Hawaii? If it was meant to be "Ka Mate"... Very poor pronunciation and breathing techniques vital for completing full words throughout the verses and keeping the power in the voice strong and solid. It was rushed! It's not a race so slow it down, pronunciation is key in any language to be heard and understood properly. The actions or choreography here is lacking sharpness, fluidity and understanding, because each action has deep meaning behind it so we as Māori instinctively know when something isn't quite right. Theres no shortage of "ihi" meaning- power, essential force or excitement! I think it's installed in every one, from all cultures but!, singing another countrys national anthem wrong on television will upset alot of people especially when you're not from there and haven't earned the privilege to do so.
