Totally surreal watching these videos, especially this one. I randomly stumbled across one of your videos as a youtube suggestion, and quickly recognised the ship. This was a Fred Olsen cruise lines ship called the 'Braemar', and it primarily served us Brits. The wife and I have enjoyed so many wonderful holidays on this ship, exploring Europe, Russia, and the Bahamas between 2006 and around 2018. I know every inch of that ship and reminisced over everything you showed here. Even some of the furniture, carpets, and artwork is unchanged (along with the names of all of the areas of the ship). Fingers crossed it all works out for you guys. Enjoy it.

When you said "Coral Club"I thought you said "Choral Club" and thought "Oh COOL! They can sing in a choir, or sing Barber Shop if they want. That's healthy! Singing is so good for the body and soul." Imagine my disappointment when I realized it was just a bar. I do hope they will have community hobby groups, like quilting, woodworking, painting, and gardening, as well as fitness, swimming, and dancing. Ceramics would be a challenge I imagine, but I really do think all people need a place to work their arts

If you have a few cruises under your belt (I've done a dozen) you don't really stay locked in your room. There are tons of desolate spaces on the ship where you'll find you quiet space. Most people who cruise usually like meeting others and enjoy some social settings. However, if you are more introverted it may not be a good fit for a long term situation.

I think you would need to be an extrovert and people person to be happy long term with this arrangement. I'm an introvert with social anxiety, so I could never do this! But I wish you both all the best!

Spa services are of course extra. Washing is included. Drinks over the two beer dining occasion are extra but we can bring our own liquor onboard. Specialty restaurants will be at an additional cost. We will work remotely from the business center. Thanks for watching.

I filmed it at times when there wasn’t much people around as many don’t want to be on camera. I asked permission of the people you see in the video. The ship will most likely be half owners and half people doing segments. You can leave the ship as long as you want but you need to keep paying the monthly fee if you bought a cabin. It is not permitted to spend the night on the ship until all inspections and tests have been completed and then Ship Trials where they take the ship out to open water. Residents can be on the ship and eat on the ship, but they are bussed to hotels to sleep. Therefore most residents are not in Belfast until they can spend the night on the ship. That is part of the reason you don't see as many people as you normally would.

Hi Barbara! Sorry for the late reply. I bought the massage/facial for 8 for $550. So it comes out about $65 per service. I think my manicure was $30 plus $10 for gel. It makes sense that the purchase price goes up based on cabin type, but the monthly costs shouldn't vary that much for an inside vs balcony cabin. But compared to going on typical 7 days cruises, the monthly costs aren't too bad. I don't think I could live full time on a ship for 10-15 years. Definitely not in an inside cabin, but I would love to give it a try in an ocean view or balcony cabin :).

@@livinglifeonacruise yeah, the cabin prices, even for a suite, are pretty reasonable, but those monthly fees will add up really fast. The monthly fees (for an inside cabin) would be $630K after 15 years, for a total price of $730K. Even with the ability to leave the room and look outside, I'm not sure how many people would survive living without a window in their room for 15 years... The monthly fees jump to $5000 a month for an ocean view, $8000 for a balcony, and $9000 for a suite. If living on the ship solo, the monthly fees are $2500, $4000, $7000, or $8000. If you own a house and want to keep it so you have the flexibility of having somewhere to go if you want to get off the ship for a while, you would need to have a significant amount of money to work with or a good income to cover the monthly fees plus any other costs you incur such as shore excursions and other stuff that isn't covered by the monthly fees. There's also the very legitimate concern of what happens to your investment in the room itself if Villa Vie goes bankrupt in a few years? Losing the money from an inside or ocean view cabin purchase may not financially destroy most people who can afford to do this to begin with, but once you get up to the price of a balcony or suite, it becomes a much bigger risk. It looks like this is partly mitigated by paying a 50% deposit and then paying the rest over time (I would assume with interest). There are other concerns that come to mind as well, such as how to deal with even relatively minor medical issues that the medical staff on the ship isn't equipped to handle, routine dental, etc. Medical care is obviously a potential issue on a short cruise, but when you extend the length of the cruise by such a huge amount, it becomes a much bigger concern. Though this sounds like a negative post, I would LOVE to be in a position where I could give this a try as it would be a wonderful way to get around and see much of the world. Being more of a risk averse type of person (and ignoring any financial constraints), I would want to wait and see how this company does for a few years before putting that kind of money into it.
