I don’t understand all the judgmental negativity in the comments. If this is what you want to do and how you want to spend your time and money, then do it. It’s great that the option is available and refreshing to see people following a different path. Seeing the world while being able to return to your own bed at night sounds pretty exciting to me. Have fun! It’ll be an adventure that few get to experience.

@@Teacher659I totally agree. I've done 40 cruises - more often than not, alone. Since Covid restart, I've found that even a Mini suite, a balcony quad - let alone an obscured view quad can get old if the ship is basic, the entertainment is tired, or the food ordinary. I’ve been lucky to have been on a few cruises now and on my first which was 9 years ago, I met an elderly lady who had been living on and off of cruise ships for 5 years. She didn’t own the cabin but she stayed in the same cabin for as long as she could and then swapped on to another one when needed. She said that with the loyalty points etc she was paying less than £700 per week. She was at the stage where she either moved into a home which would cost double or be on a cruise ship where there was always a member of staff who would waltz her around the floor if she wanted, she could have as many drinks as she liked and ate 5* meals whenever she wanted. If Family wanted to come and stay and have a wonderful holiday whilst seeing her then they could. Win win in her opinion. She said did say to me, whether I would prefer to be sat in a chair in t shirt, leggings and a knitted cardigan, doing chair yoga in a home or be travelling the world dressing up for dinner each night (if I wanted) and be able to watch people having a holiday of a lifetime and having interesting chats with so many different people every week? I know my choice if I was single…

I was watching a documentary from a cruise company and they touched on the elderly folks who chose to live on a ship like your friend. They said it was alright while the person was still able bodied and didn’t have much in the way of medical needs. But once they passed a certain level of health, it was extremely difficult having them living on board as there simply wasn’t proper care available for them. It made it extremely difficult for the staff and sometimes impacted other guests as well. Some of the issues which arose didn’t sound all that good for anyone involved to be honest. Nevertheless, i hope your friend goes on to enjoy cruising for as long as possible. Dancing around the stage with a dashing crew member until the joyful end 😊

I worked in the cruise industry for several years. I lived on board permanently for that time, in a variety of cabin sizes and layouts. Some years, I changed ship several times to different companies, different sizes of ships, different cabins, different crews, rules etc. Each ship has its own personality. Each crew their own challenges. The number of mechanical, legal, medical etc challenges I saw in that time would take me years to write here. Most challenges were the same on each ship. Staffing, ship repairs (electrical, plumbing, mechanical, heating, AC,) weather, engine room (these were enormous problems and would often be fixed out of season when the ships would go for several months maintenance). Crew and passengers would be moved to another ship whilst (if) this happened.Every department had its own daily issues (some large, others small but still annoying) that the passengers would hopefully never find out about. I was being paid to be on board. We were paid to smile and say everything was fantastic. It wasn’t. Behind the scenes it’s very different. I can see some red flags all ready and you haven’t even set sail yet. Not putting the AC on because of cost? This is your home, you should have the choice of AC if you want it. You paid for it, you get it. What other areas are they going to decide to cut to save costs? Laundry…hmm nice deflection from the issue there, but no solution... watch out for this tactic. Things can only be better? Sure, they can but often in cruising, they don’t. On board it’s a domino effect, downwards, and not better. They don’t have their certifications yet. You can’t sail without those. Expect delays. I look forward to seeing your weekly safety drills, and how those go. Those are mandatory. The first few will be exciting, thereafter…not so much (but vital). I can list other areas that might be a challenge after a while. I’m going to watch with much interest. I have subscribed so that I can watch your journey. I honestly wish you both the best, have a fantastic life on board. I shall be watching with a lot of hope for you, and hope that it is everything that you wish it to be. May all your dreams come true. You seem a lovely couple. Good luck. 🎉🎉🎉😊😊

Where are my comments coming from? I feel I should add that I have worked in the travel industry for over thirty years. I speak 16 languages. Started off working on the coaches, 52-70 pax a week, (single and double decker) eg visiting 11 European countries in 14 days type thing, then specialising in each country e.g Grand Italian etc. After that went on to static resorts (worked my way up from resort rep to management). Mostly Europe. Worked my way through various countries, resorts, then after that I moved into cruises, living on board for about 6 years. After that I was in quality control for cruises moving from ship to ship checking 69 cruise liners for their onboard services and ships management, spending roughly 1-2 weeks on board each ship assessing their performance, highlighting the problems on board, reporting to a shipping conglomerate. Finally after that went into the aviation industry. I’ve spent my whole life travelling. Air, sea and land. I’ve seen every possible problem in every industry, and many ways of solving problems, as well as management style. There are pros and cons to everything. A positive attitude is vital when travelling any where. I still love the travel industry and the adventures it affords.

My family and I have gone on several cruises and have always enjoyed ourselves. While I could never afford to do what you and your wife are doing, I applaud your sense of adventure. I would jump at the opportunity in a heartbeat. I just want to add something to all the naysayers out there. I just recently placed my dad and stepmom in an assisted living home. Their mini apartment is not much bigger than an Odyssey cabin and they are paying over 7K a month. No adventure, a sidewalk view, and no memories. Money is not their current biggest regret. I truly believe life is worth living while you can. Saving your money just so you can be housed later in a home or to save it to pass it on to someone else is more sad than taking a risk to do something exciting. You only get one go around in life. May as well live it up. I wish the best of luck to you both and look forward to living vicariously through your travels.

What an exciting adventure. Ignore the negative comments. If its what you want, it will work for you. I have a small house on desert acerage. My husband built the house, but has passed away. My brother also lived in his RV trailer for 29 years. He helped with what needed to be done. Now am navigating this on my own, as he recently passed, and no family lives near me. Its always something, no matter where you live. We had more weeds up to 5 feet tall than ever before in 40 years. A lot of rain winter and spring. Finding weed abatement has been tough, as few companies and they are very busy. Plus expensive, $175 per hour. Clearing over a 2acre yard is daunting especially at almost 79. Everyone says move, but my husbabd and son built this house. I couldn't afford to rent. So I pay my money and take my chances. Good luck to you both. Sounds like a great advanture. Thanks for your support. You understand the life we have chosen to live. The negativity doesn’t really bother us. I would never tell anyone how to live their lives though.
@Cruise_2275 ай бұрын
I don't think a differing opinion is necessarily a "negative" one. It's just a different opinion. I think it's a great way to see the world. Would I personally want a larger ship and room, surely but that's my opinion it's not a negative one lol I have cruised 24 times, I'm on this page for the obvious reasons. But good grief people are allowed to have different opinions even if they differ only slightly. I say more power to this couple and have watched their cruise videos and LOVE LOVE how they live their life and travel. They seem like amazing people to meet as well!

Bon Voyage! How exciting to finally be able to move onto your next adventure:). What a wonderful way to see the world and not to have to worry about cooking, cleaning and yard work! Have an amazing trip around the world. Love the option that you can invite family or friends (or not!) to come visit as well:).

So how cool, basically your cruising for 15 years? I am following you, this would be amazing! It’s like having a tiny house that travels the world! Truley, you have a sleeping cleaning (bathroom). And a huge enormous house, with the best out side space! And it goes around the world once every 3 years. No cooking, and cleaning I suppose, yes! It would be awesome!

This is a small cabin. I have cruised with Royal in the past and always had a love seat in my room which gave a little extra spot to relax if you wanted to stay in your room. That being said this is a great idea for retirement. There was lady on one of my cruises that lived on the ship. It sounds like this entire ship is residential. Wow.

I am so excited for you! I find it amazing that people can be so critical of something they know not of, you have been kept informed along the way and this is your journey. I can tell from the videos that the residents all seem to be knowledgeable of the setbacks and it sounds like you knew from the start that with an older ship it may take time to get going. So while it is taking a little longer than planned you have a wonderful adventure to look forward to! Enjoy every minute! Don’t lisyen to the naysayers! 🥰

You seem lost. This is youtube and these videos are monetised. If they were just living their lives not inviting any kind of criticism then it wouldn't be warranted. However they are and they're earning from it. So the comments are absolutely valid.

@@livinglifeonacruise I hope you continue to document and share your adventures. Turn the monetizing on, and let your wallet grow along with your followers. Ignore the nasty keyboard warriors. People don't understand or are afraid of doing something unusual. I might have kept the Murphy bed above the bed and had the mattress removed. Either seen if luggage would fit and then seasonal items stored in luggage and if it would close with them then the other side command hooks with garnet bags for extra stuff. Unless it wasn’t bad leaving it down then a whole other storage bay again without mattress. We just purchased a used class c rv and have cabinets above our heads over the bed hence the thought. Good luck and happy sailing ⛵️ 😊
