Village Creek (Big Thicket National Preserve) Kayak Camping and Fishing

Please Read !!! This is NOT the 21 mile Village Creek paddling trail, this is the section from the 420 bridge to the 418 bridge. This section is for experienced kayakers and people who know the dangers of a strong current creek with fallen trees and strainers

Man, that sure takes me back. My cousins and I are old men now - but when we were kids, we spent a lot of time out in the woods, or on Village Creek. We lived in Silsbee, and would occasionally get our folks to drive us somewhere upstream, where we would put a small flat-bottomed aluminum boat into the creek. We would float down the creek - fishing, hunting, and camping until we reached a designated spot downstream, where our folks would pick us up. Good times. I reckon capsizing in Village Creek is more common than not capsizing. In those days, the Thicket was a bit thicker than it is now. No Wally-World stores. But it sure is nice to see the creek again. It sucks kayaking down there when the waters down for sure, due to all the trees, when I went the water was low and had to walk over a lot of trees
