It's probably because the chord progression, I can't tell for sure what it is exactly, but it can sound funky and creepy to those who never listen to this style of music. Also, the chords for the melody sometimes progresses chromatically, aka playing the keys immediately to the left and right in sequence, and that motion tend to invoke sadness or creepiness in a piece of music. Especially at the very last two notes of their singing
