I just made my sloppy joe recipe from a 1960's Girl Scout cookbook. Brown one pound of ground beef in a pan with diced onions. Add about 3/4 cup ketchup, 1 Tablespoon of yellow mustard (or any mustard), add 1 Tablespoon of white vinegar, add 2-3 Tablespoons of brown sugar depending on how sweet you want it, add a tiny bit of water and stir ingredients. Let simmer 5 minutes. Serve on toasted bun, and I also like to eat it with a pickle and potato chips. Been eating this my whole life.

the Sloppy Joe is well named. It makes a mess when you try to eat it but, that is the intention of the sandwich. You let it fall out then eat what escapes. It's all about flavor, and if you clean up the mess it makes, there is no waste. lol You don't have to be a neatnick to enjoy food.

Typically, Americans will flip the sandwich over and it will hold in the meat better that way. So the sandwich is turned upside down. We always have a spoon ready to scoop up the drippings too.

Actual Sh*t on a Shingle is chipped beef, not ground meat; served like gravy over toast, not in a bun; it's milk (bechemel) based and contains zero tomatoes... so how do you figure it's "just a tomatoish version" of a Sloppy Joe when SOS is not even remotely close in any way, shape or form?
