Something comes to mind couldn't John have avoided this just by pretending to look something up on the dragon balls then tell Frieza something like the namekian dragon balls have some rules placed on them that no one can break 1 an evil person can't use the dragon balls and two only a good-hearted person can be made immortal by the dragon balls. I mean those are logical things that in all honesty I'm surprised no one has ever added to the dragon balls to make sure they weren't missing used.
