The years in which Merc dominated, Alonso said he only watched f1 for Max. He was the entertainer/challenger. That pretty much sums up Max impact of the sport. Either he was generating new rookie records, forcing fia stewards to rethink rules and pushing race leaders hard for their win OR he won the race himself. GOATs do that. For sure one of the greats... that is not only simply statistics and records...just count the years Max wasnt news... precisely.

Villeneuve was also the loudest one to call out Red Bull for putting Verstappen in a Torro Rosso at the age of 17. He was proven wrong then and he didn't learn any lesson. Regarding the GOAT, from the 50 years I've been able to watch F1 I would say Senna, Schumacher and Verstappen are close contenders. Just below that drivers like Prost, Hamilton and a handful of others. The top 3 share the abilities in difficult circumstances, winning in a less optimal car, ruthlessness, a focus on driving and hating all the fuzz around it . That's what I like to see, so it's definitely my personal bias. In general, I do believe it's hard to compare different era's, but I'm also convinced that any new generation in any sport outperforms the old generation. That's simple progress. From better training, improved science and knowledge on personal fitness, strength and what they eat, etc. In the 70's drivers would step out of the car and light a cigarette. That's also why all world records are temporary. Why should F1 be different. I don't think the Fangio, Clark, Senna or Schumacher of their time would be as far in front on today's grid, if they even could make it there.

Max had the outright best car for a season and a half (from Spa 2022 till China 2024) of his whole career of 10 years, but managed to win 62 Grand Prix and 4 Championships. Is THAT enough? Still not? What is greatness exactly then? How can you define it? So, he might be the greatest, might be not, I don't know how any of you define greatness. Some people confusing winning with greatness. Jim Clark won lots of races in a stupidly unreliable car but fails in comparison to Lewis, does that mean he is worse than Hamilton that won 99% of his races in one of the best cars on the grid ???? Don't get me wrong as Lando showed us this year, its not just getting in the car and win and Lewis deserves respect for sure. There are just way too many variables to call in different eras of F1, the closest off course is Verstappen & Lewis. My reason for why i think Max has the edge though is Max has won 10 times and finishing over 40 times on the podium From 2016 -2020 and all that wins was in the 3rd/4th fastest car on the grid !! Lewis is really really fast in a good car but he struggles in a car when it doesn't fit him as we seen in the past 3 years. It takes a enormous amount of skill to win in a F1 car regardless but there is a big difference winning in the fastest car and winning in a 3rd/4th best car, and anyone that denies that Max showed his greatness this year is just plain blinded by hate! The greatest athletes got there status not for winning when all was good, they won when times where tough and against all odds!!!

Also in the wet, (despite his 2008 race) his teammate Button always won in wet conditions so he isnt a rainmaster as what Sky sports portraited. Rules weren't bend due to Lewis, as for the other 3 there were bend, for me he is a very boring on the track. Lewis had luck in switching teams, he lost from Button, Rosberg, Massa, Russell now probably twice. So Lewis lost from teammates in also qualifying and points. Points and races are meaningless, qualifying is something you can compare in percentages over a season. Max never lost to any teammate in qualifying. Lewis did, several times! Max can win a championship with a less car or now with the third best car on the grid. Lewis has difficulties to compete without the fastest car on the grid to be honest.. Lewis consistency is better than average on the grid, but again Max showed that his consistency on a complete other level, it beyond and even ridiculous!

Here is some of Max's abilities that makes him possibly the best F1 driver in history: 1) Handle any pressure and adversity with ease. 2) Work in unison with with his team to extract the maximum performance out of his car in any circumstances. 3) Focus on winning the race, no matter what the current racing circumstances are. 3) Pick the write time to overtake safely. 4) Pace the race to win without over stressing his team & car. 5) Make his car extra wide to block anyone trying to pass him. But ..... Max's most important asset is that he has over all the other potential F1 GOAT's is that he has not changed his honest but focused approach to F1 racing, working with the FIA and the media.

But now that Max is heading towards 4 victories, breaking record after record, many complain that he wins ''every time'' and by that I mean the media, famous former racers AND the FIA. Winning is winning and there will be many years in which others can win. But hey, maybe Lando will win next year?...or Lewis in the Ferrari? the UK will be happy again....who knows! 🤷♂. But anyway the Media and former drivers should NOT interfere with racing and Max is a very good and smart racer, just like Lewis, Schumacher, Senna and many more who are at the top......(or were at the top). I'll go for Michael for now with Max a close second and I've been watching since 95. I'll just say this :Max is about to become a 4xWDC while driving only 2 constructors winning cars . Regardless of people thinking Perez is very bad he isnt , he's just decent and makes mistakes while driving a difficult car to drive . Hamilton had his fair share of decent only teammates , Kovalainen or Bottas, while winning the majority of his titles but the Merc cars were far superior . 9 constructors winning cars Lewis had. far far better equipment than Max had at his disposal .

@@SleepySniffer sorry Joe but having to step down from office & having entered the final stages of dementia has clouded your judgement! An F1 car can’t be driven beyond its limits which is why Max (not Sergio) is the performance benchmark for the Red Bull. Sure it dropped off its perch from Miami for a few races but was dominant at the start of the season and has been very competitive with the McLaren in the last few races. No doubt Max deserves to win this years WDC but across the season he’s had a competitive car.

@@SleepySniffer OK Joe I’ll use little words so here we go; 1: Any car has a limit to its performance (beyond 100% the car is being over driven and will go slower than its optimum lap time) - still with me? 2: Max is able to drive the Red Bull as close to that 100%, certainly much closer than Perez and most likely Norris as well. In your younger years when you had your faculties you might remember a young man called Sebastian Vettel? In the same way Max could control his Red Bull better than anyone else today, so could Seb in his era. In short Adrian Newey designs cars that are very fast but only if driven by people who can adapt to drive them.

Not sure if it’s hating. A commentary opinion can be unbiased, albeit unfavourable. Regardless of how many world championships he has or has not won, he has a lot of experience in F1 and his contribution should be welcome even if not agreed with. Besides, this is the reason you have so many listeners. Because of unbiased commentary and impartiality with your content. Your commentary on Max and Lewis has changed over late. However this doesn’t mean you are hating. It means you are doing your job. Commentary. Unfortunately, the recent departure of Damon Hill, prehaps for his Dick Dastardly comment and the Liberty Media Boss may lead to restrictions on commentators freedom. A very dangerous path I suggest. Who will go next. Nico Rosenberg. After all, he only won 1 world championship ? Oh and that was against Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton.

@joshualai8884 күн бұрын
I think this GOAT debate is pointless and has to stop. Can't really term as "of all time" when F1 is still running. We simply cannot justify this ever with different machineries, rules and regulations, different number of races and so on....
@ignaciohayabusa86634 күн бұрын
This is a watse of time. To be in the GOAT debate you either win 7 WDC or beat current 105 Race win tally and 201 Podiums. We have literal nunbers for this Why are we counting if the very things we count stop mattering when judging who is the best? As is Max will march Vettel in WDCs so thats where he at. Why does he get GOAT status wheh he has yet to match the last Red Bull Champion in Driver Championships? Y'all could very well be preventing Max from being objectively the best by givijg accolades undeserved. The numbers are there. Win 7, get 105+. SIMPLE
@zt2max4 күн бұрын
Well the problem is that arguably stats can't decide talent-level. For example if what you are saying is true then Senna can't be considered which means you would be indirectly arguing that Senna was at fault for dying but how could he have prevented that? It seems very obvious that with the williams renault being dominant in 1994,95,96 and 97, Senna would have cleaned up and got at least seven titles. There is absolutely no reason to believe Senna would not have done that. So it isn't all about statistics, it's about considering the abilities of each driver in many things such as ability in the wet, qualifying, race-speed, tactical prowess, and yes, also statistics to some degree.
@Wmeester19714 күн бұрын
Cherry picking is what everyone can do, esspecially if its in favor of your idol. By your metric Senna would not ever enter the GOAT discussion. Good luck in claiming that.
@Wmeester19714 күн бұрын
@@Vic-f6k I was making the point that you have to be a 7WDC to be in the goat converstation. There are other metrics that are more usefull. Having a fast car protected by regulations and a weak teammate is looking good at your stats, but of course does not tell anything on how good one really is when everyone is in the same car.

The man doesn’t have a weakness, and unlike other amazing drivers when they’ve had the best car. Max genuinely looked untouchable in 2023, he hardly makes any mistakes and even when thing don’t go his way (Brazil qualifying) he’s probably the only driver you could never rule out of competition, even if he’s down near last. And his consistency is hands down, the best we’ve ever seen. Even prime Lewis was prone to an off weekend or two

Quoting Cameron re Villeneuve: “You are hating sir, because your face can never go on the Mount Rushmore. Indeed, people will always compare you unfavourably to your dad.” Hilarious and WRONG. Jacques is on the “Mount Rushmore”, winning the wc in 1997. His dad, Gilles, was never on the “Mount Rushmore” as he was the runner up in the 1979 wc. “People will ALWAYS compare you unfavourably to your dad” What nasty uninformed planet are you on Cameron? I live in Canada and I have NEVER heard/read any such bs. There is nothing in international media either. What is the comparison? Were you a fan of Gilles? Watched him race, did you Cameron; hence your yardstick. Gilles is famous b/c he was a very good Canadian F1 driver who died. Perhaps when Peter is next on, you can ask him the names of people who “always compare…unfavourably” Jacques to Gilles. I can imagine the look that Windsor would give you. Stop making up stories. Last but not least, try to not delete this comment.

@@rezaahjappie6044 Man. lol. The “worst” since 1984. What about pre-1984 Rezaah? lol. In your previous post, you minimize the French Canadian driver’s WC as he was in a far superior car than Schumacher. It is driver + car = WC. Okay. Depending on which convenient logic you choose to stand behind, Verstappen 2022/23 only won due to the car, beating better drivers such as Alonso and Hamilton, who were in slower machinery. Is this your stance? If Norris had won the 24 WC, then, to your logic, it would be the car only? If Riccardo was so good, why did Red Bull not keep him? Horner and Marko fired him. On this channel, Peter Windsor has talked about how Riccardo left Red Bull for the money that Renault would give him and by doing so, he lost his “soul”. Horner said that Daniel “ran away from a fight”, yet you are blaming a commentator for Riccardo’s circumstances. Why? So many commentators questioned Riccardo blocking Liam from getting into an F1 car.. You can’t tolerate this criticism? (You should listen to Dutch or German F1 coverage and what they thought of Riccardo blocking the seat.) Last but not least, ALL drivers retire as SOMEBODY, be it Villeneuve or Riccardo or Vettel or Sargent or DeVries or ………….. You are an armchair quarterback, nothing more, who insults professional athletes. I don’t think that you would ever be in the premier league of any sport. My sense is Rezaah, that you use athletics as a way to vent your own dissatisfaction with your own circumstances.
