Villiers S25 Carb - Float Needle Fix

The carb on the Greeves Scottish had started intermittently flooding. Time to check out the float needle and attempt a repair. . .
P.s. disappointing that the video editor seems to have lost the sound sync in places (?)

Interesting video. Im trying to get my 63 greeves dialed in but not have much success. Maybe im expecting to much out of a vintage bike.

I’ve spent many frustrating hours trying to tune Amal carbs over the years. The S25 on my Greeves Scottish has been relatively trouble free, (this flooding issue being an exception). The bike always starts easily & runs fine. I’ve never messed with tuning other than adjusting the slow running jet. I hope you get yours sorted.

@@Greeves mine starts and runs ok but I think it lacks power. As I live in the USA parts have to be shipped.

@paulaagaard7641 Um. You don’t have another Villiers engined bike to compare it with then? The basic factory engine is pretty puny. Mine’s a Villiers 32A 250cc, which is fine for trials but not what you’d call “powerful”. The power of the basic Villiers could be more than doubled with a bit of tuning (for road racing & karting). Maybe your expectations are too high 🙂🤔

Hi. Thanks for your interest but I can’t supply you with a carburettor of this type. A few things: I’m a hobbyist & the video shows how I’ve managed to keep the Villiers S25 carb on my own 1961 Greeves running. (You can see the bike in the video at 15m:14s) These carbs were fitted to Villiers 250cc 2-stroke engines 60 years ago. They haven’t been manufactured for a long time and are now very difficult to find. I have a standing search on eBay but even used parts only come up on the search very rarely. This model of carb would be too small for a Royal Enfield and is designed for 2-stroke engines, rather than 4-stroke. So I think you’d be better finding an Amal carb (which are still manufactured by Burlan.co.uk), or better still, a new, or used, Indian Mikcarb carb as fitted by the factory. There are plenty of these listed on eBay. Good luck 👍
