I use mostly cheapers sockets. Duralast, Harbor Freight, some Gearwrench stuff. It all works about the same for turning a bolt!

I’ve got that Powertorque set along with the ratchet they come with. I went Snap On in metric then saw the Powertorque and got them in SAE. They are worth every penny and then some. I’ve known about CAT tools for a while. Have their Snap On rebranded screwdrivers in my collection. Williams USA is another way to get Snap On chrome sockets. According to Williams, Snap On is built to a tighter tolerance, but they do roll off the same manufacturing line in the same factory. Not sure about CAT tolerance versus Snap On, but, like Williams, I doubt it’s enough to matter in practical use.

Yesssir i have been getting curious about the cat stuff cause i want some 1/2 chrome sockets and some nicer 3/8 impacts and i cant justify paying my snap on dealer even more money than I already do lol. Theres a cat dealer near me, going to work up a list of part numbers in the following weeks and see what i can do. Have you seen those vim 3/8 drive stubby impact bits? They look like the regular bluepoint/vim stubby 1/4 bits but impact rated and 3/8 drive

They all come from the same oem, i have some that came in my proto j61231 multi bit racheting screwdriver set, some in a Tone tools bit set. Stanley Black and Decker has them in Mac, Facom, USAG sets. It may be Hi Fiv that makes them

Snap on makes tools for new Holland, case, and CAT. It's no secret most guys in the industry laugh at regular mechanics because of how much they pay for tools. If you don't think snap on is shafting you go check out prices for the same tools under other names

VIM does private label for other tool companies. If you are buying VIM tools, do not buy them directly from VIM. Shop around and you can get them much cheaper from their retailers. Sometimes as much as half off the VIM direct price. How do you order Cat Tools?
@JohnC6869 ай бұрын
You can find the part numbers online and go to a CAT dealer to order.

Vim doesn't manufacture tools. They use outside companies to make their tools. The CAT/ snap on is common knowledge at this point isn't it. There is 100s if not more videos on it. I learned this over 20 years ago
@MidwestToolReview9 ай бұрын
You’d think it was, but based on my last video, there’s a ton of people that are unaware.
@YocedEcoyАй бұрын
this is not true at all. vim is a manufacturer that does mostly private label manufacturing. they just also happen to have a store front where they also sell the tools they manufacture. who they manufacture for is not disclosed to the public because that's the whole point of a private label but it's not very hard to figure out if you've ever stepped on a tool truck or been in inside a hardware store after seeing the vim catalog.
@T6TarekАй бұрын
@YocedEcoy vim has tools manufactured for them. They do not own and operate manufacturing facilities.

buddy, vim *IS* the manufacturer. vim tools is their white label business, meaning its customer facing. but their manufacturing is also private label. meaning they manufacture tools for other companies, under the other company's brand. they make items for icon, cornwell, matco and COUNTLESS other brands. it's a very, very long list and they pretty much never directly disclose who they manufacture for. vim is a great family owned company with a great history and makes some of my favorite tools, whether its got their name on it or not.
@MidwestToolReviewАй бұрын
So you’re telling me that VIM is the prime, yet they allow other companies to purchase and sell the same product for 1/2 the cost of their “white label” version…? So essentially, they canalbalizing their own brand to gain sells from 2nd tier customers…? Is that what you’re suggesting…? The truth is, these are manufactured offshore which is evident in the fact that both are labeled as “Made in Taiwan” which indicates they’re buying from an o offshore manufacturer. Case closed!
@YocedEcoyАй бұрын
@ id watch their videos on how their business works. they discuss the private and white label side of things.
@YocedEcoyАй бұрын
@ IMS is their private label company. they’ve said it in their own video. IMS makes tools for vim and other companies. it lines up with their company history. ray durston purchased vim way back in the 40’s, but kept his private label company and made tools for other companies and vim. that is essentially how IMS & VIM operate in parallel today.
@Callelle62519 ай бұрын
There's no such thing as a "VIM" knock off, they don't make any tools. They source their stuff from an ODM just like every other mid tier tool company.
