This is the first video of your's I've watched, and I enjoyed how in depth you went, relating the lyrics to events taking place at the time the song was written. You even recognized a few things the song expressed that I thought you might miss, like the dangers of politics and dogmatic religion intertwining. I hope you take the time to listen to more Bad Religion tunes if you haven't already. I think you would really enjoy, understand, and consider their commentary on Religious, Political, Social, and Personal issues. Again, great video.

I'm 50 and was raised with faith in God and Jesus Christ. I also discovered heavy music around the age of 12. 🤣🤣 I take or leave bad religions music for obvious reason. I love the fast aggressive sound of their earlier albums, say Suffer and and prior. Great stuff to skate to! Obviously I don't agree with everything they say but a lot of the social and political commentary is spot on. Even this song, never once did I take this as a slam against Christianity on a whole, but the idea that somehow Jesus Christ loves the United States more, or that he's a uniquely American idea. Also making comment against Christian nationalism, which I'm totally against. I like the government out of my faith and I like keeping faith out of government. Those two mix about as well as oil and water.

This is one of my favorite songs, one of my favorite bands. I think this is in part a criticism towards the USA general mentality of superiority towards the "rest of the world", part criticism towards the intermingling of the politics with religion and the banalization of religiousness, subverting faith to manouver and manipulate the masses. We frown upon foreign religion-states, yet one could say that USA is one as well, and I think that's the root of the songs criticism. Now, even though Vin is really conscious of a lot of the issues, I have to disagree with the use of "protecting" that he uses to define the military actions... It's funny how it always happens to be that the countries that USA is so worried about "protecting" are those that have oil reserves... must be a coincidence, right?

YASS, GURL!! 'Bout time we get to Bad Religion! Unlike The Plasmatics and the Sex Pistols, Bad Religion is in a genre of Punk alongside The Clash and The Dead Kennedys, a genre that is dense af lyrically. One of the biggest Pop Punk bands with serious lyricism. My biggest concern while watching the song was being concerned that they might've assumed the band's lyrics are sincere and not performing a character--singing from a different POV. Based on a part of the discussion I definitely recommend checking out Straylight Run's cover of the Bob Dylan song, "With God On Our Side." I hope Propagandhi is next, maybe also check out one of my favorite band The Broadways "15 Minutes," "Police Song," or Everything I Ever Wanted To Know About Genocide I Learned In The 3rd Grade." And a band I loved in high school but haven't really followed all that much Anti-Flag "Angry, Young, And Poor," "Police Story," "Die For The Government," or "Visques, Puerto Rico: Bikini Revisited." Also, some songs off my favorite Rancid album, Life Won't Wait, "Bloodclot," "Life Won't Wait," and "Wrongful Suspicion."

This one i really enjoyed! Your dissection of the song and the meaning behind it makes it so good with Bad Religions deeper than avarage lyrics and meanings. You should really check out more of this, they have songs about social problems (Billy, the numbers game), religious problem throughout the years (Sinister Rouge, The new dark ages, Gods love), the upcome of mankind (Fertile Crecent) and lots of philosophical songs (Chimeara).

Thank yall so much for reviewing this song! The first time I saw yall you were reviewing Ghost and now that you have reviewed a song by Bad Religion - one of the most iconic punk bands ever... AND really understood and payed attention to the lyrics I'm subscribing. There are SO many punk bands out there with such important messages in their lyrics but the vast majority of people just brush them off and don't even give them a chance because "Oh, punk rock, 3 chords and anarchy, that's all it is" and they don't see that the usually simplistic instrumentals are meant to not overshadow what they are trying to say. Yall have earned much respect from me with this, thank you!

I LOVE this. What an awesome and authentic and sincere reaction! Mad props to you guys for recognizing what the song is criticizing and engaging with that in a good faith discussion, instead of oversimplifying and misunderstanding its message. This is really cool to watch and your open-mindedness is a true virtue. You're doing a great job practicing the kinds of humble qualities that I understand Christians are *supposed* to try to cultivate in themselves. Amen, more people need to quit letting themselves get so triggered by challenges to practices and ways of thinking that turn up in their communities! Bad Religion is my favorite band and it's awesome to see their message being heard for what it truly is. I have no doubt that many Christians and punks and everyone in between have been and will continue to be brought together in honest discussion, thanks to you helping to elevate the discourse. :)

Well, the US had armed Saddam against Iran in the 80s and promised him, he could keep all the oil fields he would conquer. But he didn't. And he still wanted his oil fields. So he took them from Kuwait. But then the US said, wait a second, the Kuwaites deliver their oil to us, you can't take that oil. It's ours. That 's why the US went to "rescue" them.

Found this randomly on KZbin while watching Bad Religion videos and although I thought this was gonna be two evangelicals bellyaching and whining about how this song tears down christianity and christians but was pleasantly surprised that this was an intelligent conversation although I disagree ardently with their evangelical slant KUDOS that being said I have been a fan of Bad Religion since I was a young teenager in Lakewood,Colorado (especially Suffering 🤟🤟🤟) and even though I have not been all that crazy about their output in recent years I will always go to the mat and continue to have immense respect for Bad Religion because as a Punk Kid among lameasses who just liked lame mainstream music and psuedo hippies who liked shit such as Phish,Grateful Dead,Widespread Panic and String Cheese Incident Bad Religion was one of the bands who would always come through Denver when a good number of bands would bypass Denver in the 90's(BR would at times even come twice in a year) and having the pleasure of being at those shows I will always have immense respect for Greg.Brett and the Boys !!!

The video maker left out some of the lyrics - I don't need to be a global citizen, 'Cuz I'm blessed by nationality. I'm member of a growing populace, We enforce our popularity. There are things that seem to pull us under and, There are things that drag us down. But there's a power and a vital presence, That's lurking all around. We've got the American Jesus, See him on the interstate. We've got the American Jesus, He helped build the President's estate. I feel sorry for the Earth's population, 'Cuz so few live in the U.S.A. At least the foreigners can copy our morality, They can visit but they cannot stay. Only precious few can garner our prosperity, It makes us walk with renewed confidence. We got a place to go when we die, And the architect resides right here. We've got the American Jesus, Bolstering national faith. We've got the American Jesus, Overwhelming millions every day. He's the farmer's barren fields, (In God) The force the army wields, (We trust) Expressions on the faces of the starving millions, (Because He's one of us) The power of the man, (Break down) He's the fuel that drives the Klan, (Cave in) He's the motive and the conscience of the murderer, (We can redeem your sins) He's the preacher on T.V., (Strong heart) The false sincerity, (Clear mind) The form letter that's written by the big computers, (And infinitely kind) The nuclear bombs, (You lose) The kids with no moms, (We win) And I'm fearful that he's inside me... (He is our champion) We've got the American Jesus See him on the interstate We've got the American Jesus Exercising his authority We've got the American Jesus Bolstering national faith We've got the American Jesus Overwhelming millions every day One nation, under God...

I went to the annual ''Punk in the park'' festival this year, which was in Orange County California. Bad Religion headlined the event, and it was a great experience. Got to see a bunch of bands I never heard of, and of course the ones I have. I'm newer to punk music. I grew up with samplings of different punk songs, especially in the 90's and early 2000's, but I wasn't like hardcore into the genre. Punk has sort of come in clutch in my life though, I'm hearing so much I can relate to, and getting my eyes opened to the community, and ears open to new songs. Suicidal Tendencies has had the biggest effect on me, and I can say that they are my favorite punk band for sure, followed by Dead Kennedys lol.

Ironically, her reaction to using the word “nigger” as opposed to his was fun to watch. xD Fun fact: DK’s longtime drummer is African-American himself, which makes her reaction even more funny. Could see her brain going “you can’t use that word!” Yes. Yes, you can.
