Ohh and BTW! that skate game was where i first heard LTJ as well!!! I got the consel with like 40k games on it from tiktok just cant remember the name. I know it was "all my best friends are metal heads" with Ronald Reagan with one of his anti drug speeches. As it cuts to the skater on a huge drop-in ramp! "And Out Come the Wolves" is one of those albums I consider a "perfect album". I can put it on, and never have an inkling to skip even one track. I can't say that for many albums, even the best albums from other great bands that I'm still a huge fan of.

From Maxwell Murder to The Way I Feel, not a track to be skipped. In fact, the non singles on this album are some of my favorites from their entire discography. Roots Radicals, Journey to the End of East Bay, Old Friend, and so many other bangers that never saw any rotation on the radio or TV.

Saw the videos on MTVX/MTV2 for Ruby Soho, Roots Radicals, Time Bomb, Radio, Salvation, etc., and saw them at Warped Tour 2001 in Pontiac, Michigan. I love that you say it reminds you of ska. Matt was the bass player for Operation Ivy and Rancid had a couple albums that were more ska leaning so you are totally right. Great video

Thanks so much! I had so many requests for Operation Ivy that I did my very next video on them after this one. Hope you can check it out!! 🙏🏼

Rancid is amazing, and this album is pure fire. Saying "quick one" is a good description, because Matt Freeman is blazing fast on bass. I totally get what you say about ska; I was always a fan of Rancid, but also loved Less than Jake, Reel Big Fish, and others... The songs Time Bomb and Ruby Soho brought me to Rancid from my old love of the Clash.

There is a live version on KZbin were Matt extends the solo. It’s pretty much the only one that comes up when searched. Way more fun in person, but it’s super cool to see here too. Well worth the watch.

Early Rancid stuff (like this) was often grouped in with ska, particularly because Tim Armstrong (singer/guitarist) was previously in a ska band called Operation Ivy. Also, Matt Freeman (the bassist) plays with a pick

It's so cool seeing all these fans in comment section. I grew up in a small town in Alabama and there was maybe 10 of us that knew anything about punk and played Rancid on the daily

For punk check out Cigar! Bass player is like the main solo artist through the whole first album. "Cigar"

Love how you mentioned Less Than Jake because Roger Lima always had Matt Freeman as one of his main influences (and mine)

There's a live version out there where he really extends the solo. Well worth a watch

You unknowingly started playing the beginning bassline of their song Journey to the End of the East Bay lol check that out next!

I love how you mentioned that the bass elevates the sound because I've always thought that way not just about this album, but Rancid in general. Everyone in the band is worthy of heaps of praise, but Matt Freeman especially.

Really cool to see you genuinely enjoying yourself when that solo first comes in.

New subscriber! The Less Than Jake song you were talking about was in the PS One game called Street Skater. I used to play the piss out of that game. Each level has one song dedicated to it and Less Than Jake was lucky enough to be on level one! Great video. Looking forward to checking out some others.

I just discovered your channel because of this video a couple weeks ago. I'm 45 years old. Rancid was always one of my favorite bands and I grew up on punk rock. Watching the videos you've made since then and watching you discover all of my favorite bands, live in real time, has been an amazing experience. I'm also a bass player although I really don't play or practice at all anymore. But honestly, your enthusiasm and your breakdowns of these songs has really inspired me to, and last night I had to sit down and play a couple Rancid lines just to see if I could remember how. Check out Journey to the End of the East Bay, one of Matt Freeman's all-time greatest bass lines. Honestly though, hopefully you've already checked out the rest of the Rancid catalog because my god he has some amazing bass lines.

I've come back and watched this video like five times the past couple days 'cause it's just so great seeing someone's genuine, first time reaction. I've grown up on this and I _still_ get chills from the solo

Oh man I bought my first bass in 2004 and became a Rancid / Matt fan ever since. I saw them in 2008 and this summer. Best show ever. Those men kicks ass. You have a lot of songs to discover. 🤣🤣🤣

I’ve never heard the song before. That was wild and fun.

Great video. This song is definitely the stuff of legend in punk circles. You have a fantastic ear. Those passing tones and half hammers and pulls are super commonplace in punk, but Matt is an absolute master of his craft. Again, great video and I'm now a subscriber.

I really like this, cool to see someone so masterful at bass hear this for the first time. Been listening to rancid since I was 12 or 13 when I started playing bass and I've been convinced the solo at the end is impossible since. The walking basslineness is a good thing to touch on though because you can really apply it to any genre even if its used more sparingly
