he's more educated than your average christian but i like to hear both sides of every debate and there is few things better than god as a debate topic however i do prefer government debates those are like a circus compared to religious debates also when you said that satan isn't divine i w ould argue that satan is divine very divine in fact god created satan the very definition of divine is di·vine1 dəˈvīn/Submit adjective 1. of, from, or like God or a god. since god made him he is from god making satan divine but this is from a outsiders perspective on this debate

The image that comes to my mind is all the CD burning protests that occurred throughout the 90’s and before...an artist like Marilyn Manson for example ... Christians would pileup his CD’s and torch them... they didn’t try to understand his point of view...they weren’t looking to build bridges... they were burning them down

He will never explain his lyrics. Countless interviews have questions about meaning - unanswered. He lets the audience to explain it, to learn, to better, to educate themselves in order to understand another layer of meaning. So, the interview would probably go into general terms of pro/con and Black Metal in general I guess. Which could turn out to be ton of insight/fun

Nergal imo is doing a lot of things with this song and video. 1 pissing off the polish church at max level. Song is basically lyrically saying he's not god but feels he can be better then god or the divine. As he states if he is the bridge basically between pigs and the divine he won't preach to the divine or have his head held high. Instead he's gonna be amongst the swine. So its once again taking shots at the polish church. How they have full on control and imprison people and cast judgement. Also saying he's not gonna keep this fight up because its bringing him suffering. He uses the thelemic text in song to take shots at the church but also express himself. Basically the church pissed off a lot of the Europeans and that hate is strong.
@chad8767
@chad8767 6 жыл бұрын
He also is using the song and the "bridge" between god and man and throwing it away immediately to say that he is not a savior, nor a god; He is just here to push independent thought.

It’s so interesting how vin finds the most basic religious apprehensions so foreign. 99% of Christians would say you’re both wrong for listening to satanic music. Most religious people have no interest in hearing someone else’s side. And I STRONGLY disagree that Christians are as rational as Vin thinks.

I'm not going to throw inflated numbers out, but just from my own personal experience and growing up in a "religious" christian family, as well as attending multiple churches in my younger years in my personal experience this sentiment is accurate. In my experience the few hundred christian's I have been around would consider what you both do as completely in the wrong. And that is exactly the reason why I find you two and your opinions so refreshing (compared to everything else I have experienced), because while I don't necessarily believe in god and Christianity, to see you both being such rational open minded people, willing to not only listen to this stuff but also dissect and reflect on it is awesome. I'm not going to discount Vin's point of view since just like me, maybe in your experience it's been different, but just be aware that the argument swings both ways. Either way you both are great, keep it up! :)

Sori putting Vin in his place about the lack of rationality amongst a lot of Christians gave this atheist a huge smile on my face. Thanks Sori for being a voice of reason! Vin, adore you man, but in order to understand someone, you have to see things from their perspective. It seems as though you have a lot of trouble disconnecting yourself from your faith. My personal opinion: Faith should never consume you. Should it help you find your way through life? Absolutely. But there's more to life than faith. Giving responses like "That's a very Biblical perspective" or "Yeah, but God said..." means absolutely zero to an atheist, or even an atheistic Satanist. It's meaningless, it's not our point of view, it's yours. If you can't let go of your faith in discussions or debates, I personally don't think you're fit to think rationally about certain things at all (not to say that religion is inherently irrational, just saying that putting everything in a Christian perspective and then making that out to be the POV of, in this case Nergal, is entirely meaningless).

This is a pretty mean spirited comment that doesn't really deserve a purpose (talk about meaningless). It's their channel and their perspective, of course they're allowed to bring up things that you (or Nergal) might not identify with. And I say that as a huge behemoth fan and atheist.

Caleb I don’t see how it’s mean-spirited at all, just voicing an opinion. I’m just pointing out that I feel there’s a lot of “well, this is ironic because the Bible/God...”, even though Nergal doesn’t believe in one. How can you interpret lyrics if you constantly confuse your own faith with the lyricists’? Doesn’t make much sense to me, but sorry you feel that way.

my words exactly. wrote it myself under many other videos. sometimes you need to restrain yourself from faith to see the irony or other meaning. Also, some of the bands here they are not always using christianity as the tool, but go directly through nordic mythology etc. which goes in vain trying to suit it with bible...

59 lol so here we go. Thelema's main idea is the Will. The Will is a rather complicated idea because it doesn't just mean "do what you want". What it means is that we all have a true self or higher self. And that higher self has a true Will that we should align ourselves with and work towards. We should never interfere with someone else's true Will either. So love is the law, love under Will becomes a little clearer. Crowley grew up with a strong basis in scripture so he commonly went against it. Sort of a "angry teenager / I won't do what you tell me / fuck your laws" rebel type of way, which you can find alot of in the esoteric Western occult tradition. I won't continue here because there's no point but there is alot more to go over with Crowley and Thelema. Good vid!

Snake coiling around the neck is referring to the raising of energy up to the throat chakra Vishuddha. The gift of this chakra is accepting your originality, expressing your authentic voice and speaking your truth. The energy of this chakra allows you to seek knowledge and truth beyond spiritual conditioning. The guy that writes Behemoths lyrics is extremely well versed in the occult and the significance of what is being said is hard to understand without some basic knowledge of the Tree of life, and other eastern esoteric traditions.

Lol respectfully, its certainly not as nergals positionship as a musician regarding the lyrics, "If im the missing link between thepig and the divine, i shall cast my pearls to the swine." In a way it is a bridging. The divine, and whats considered one of the lowliest forms of life. Us, as humans, the balance between the all powerful, and the weak. And if we are that balance between the two, he would rather cast his knowledge and power to those beneath him (to lift them up) to balance and peer (rather than smite and claim dominion over the lower forms of life) Theres another song that has a similar message where the lyrics go, "No horns have i, nor pair ov wings. I am the balance of thy universe." A similar concept The LHP views us as people, as the divine. Were powered by energy. Energy confied by science, can never die, but changes form. In a sense, from an energetic concept exclusively, the same power that allows us the breathe, live, etc has been the same energy for our shortlived time here. In a sense, it validates reincarnation, but negates the finalities of a final place of heaven or hell (to lhp it gets deeper into it, that this current life, is the current heaven or hell from the previous lifes trangressions, and this life determines the next's outcome, but i wont get into that). One of the major goals of lhp practice, is *conquering* reincarnation, stopping the cycles from future imprisonment in a fleshly vessel, and maintaining that energetic, primordial form ongoing. This is unity with the divine, becoming one, as the forms of the daemons that have maintained that form are. All daemons are, are the older gods that were (literally) demonized when christianity took dominion (324 ad, Constantine). Thats why there's so much angst there. The truth of the meaning of st patricks day stays hidden, the plagiarized myth of god impregnating mary to give birth to himself when pagans had the horned god and triple moon goddess doing that centuries prior. Theres just a lot, that people dont know, then claim theirs is the one true and all others are false and lying, that causes the hostility. Thats the misunderstanding though. The ten commandments would be an excellent moral guideline, all but one: "I am your god, the one true god, there will be no other gods before me." That insinuates one true, and has caused countless wars in its wake. Should that be substituted for "thou shalt not rape," id respect it more, aside from the atrocities *condoned* in The Book if we were cherrypicking lines. Wow, tangent. Apologies. Essentially lyrically to behemoth, we're already immortal because energy, but imprisoned in mortal cages. Its a basic concept to much of LHP practice. And the reason he respects other faiths (crescent moons, rivers, etc), and not the cross is because the cross took so much, and claimed they did it first. Even turning older myths into "original" tales, then calling the originators liars.

therandomusarneim its all about duality. There is no good wothout evil, and vice versa. Without darkness, the light would be all-blinding, and without light, just as. Whenever one begins to take dominion (doesntatter which), the other sees it as tyranny, and will forever war to achieve equilibrium, and then supremacy to make up for lost time. Thus, both are equally necessary, and equilibrium is the only true path of peace. This goes for gender wars as well between male and female, racial wars, and most notably wars of faith.

You're right Sori, many Christians would think what you're doing is wrong, however being a Christian myself, I am intrigued with Nergal and want to understand what is causing him to write the things he writes. These vids really help me get a good perspective on why he thinks and writes the way he writes. As for the pearls and swine verse, I think there are a lot of things he could've meant by that but I believe he is saying that he is trying to make the lost souls and rejects feel like they are important too. He is basically trying to empower those who feel powerless by saying that they are on the same level as the divine.

Vin is deluded, Sori is 100% right. I have absolutely heard Christians say that even listening to metal music is evil and not to be tolerated. I can't believe he has never heard this, its pretty much common knowledge. I know alot of Christians who say (and I quote) "I don't like alot of other Christians because they are to close minded". Where there is lightning there is usually thunder Vin, if you have a thousand people telling you something the idea that "we aren't giving THEM a chance" only goes so far. Eventually you have to accept the truth. This was so weird to hear Vin say this, I thought for sure he was joking and trying to play Devil's Advocate to Sori's argument. But of course nothing is black and white. You have people who are judging all Christians based on their limited or semi limited experience, and likewise you have Christians judging metal music or paganism/satanism/atheism based on little to no knowledge. But in between those extreme's there is alot of judgemental christians out there. I don't think you guys really (well I think Sori may have some idea) realize how special you two are. I know Pride is a sin and all that but I can almost guarantee you that 90% of Christians, hell probably a good 75% of the population of the world would not have sat down and tried to reason with that young man from yesterday. Seriously, it's hard to put into words how hopeful that made me. I realize there's probably not many Vin and Sori's out there but hopefully this village can grow the numbers to the point where a real difference can be made.

In my family, we were limited as to what music we could listen to. Even Christian rock was forbidden, as it was still rock. Amy Grant was pushing the line (80s Amy Grant, not 90's). The Beetles was over the line as was much of the newer gospel music. It wasn't until latter teens and adult years I was able to do musical explorations.

Doesn't that sound like it was probably a really bad move on the devil's part then? I mean do you see satan showing up to chat with vin and sori ever? I don't think it would be part of a rational strategy on his part, nor do I think the occasion of a kid listening to metal music (happens a million times a day) warrants a visit from a fallen archangel and the lord of an entire supernatural realm.

Grabbed this quote from somewhere after a quick Google search: "While we were yet helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Why, one will hardly die for a righteous man - though perhaps for a good man one will dare even to die. But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us." Romans 5:6-8 The last sentence of the above quote is - you guessed it - the real Romans 5:8. But you can see how the now-famous social media derivative makes sense, right? "I loved you at your darkest" is simply a translation from third person to first - in the Bible, God's death and greatest act of love was described by someone else, while the quote is the interpretation of the verse from God's point of view - as if God was talking to you, the reader."

love the behemoth reactions, my favorite ones. i really hope you get nergal for the interview, as i said on original reaction video for this song, he is very talented and interesting musician and artist. and great guy in general, very humble, interesting and intelligent individual. and you should react to nile a bit more. i really suggest "sarcophagus" song. i know you did one nile reaction before, but it was not very interesting song lyrically. they are very interesting band, musically and lyrically, in general. dark myths of ancient egypt, ancient gods etc. p.s. i also want to give my highest compliments for this lyric video you made, this is one of the best lyric videos ive seen. looks like those official ones that some bands put out. good job.

I have to agree with Sori's point at the 19:00 mark. I grew up in the deep south in Georgia. Bible Belt country. I'm the son of a Southern Baptist preacher. My uncle is also a preacher, and so was my grandfather, before he retired. I left the church at 21 and am pretty much the black sheep of my extended family. One of the main reasons I left the church was the closed-mindedness surrounding music, and art in general, really. I basically had to choose between music and my family. That's how strongly they feel about this topic. I can guarantee that none of the Christians I knew, family or not, would ever listen to any of the music on this channel. Rock music belongs to the devil, according to them, so there is no compromise from them on this issue. I appreciate you guys being open minded and trying to understand where other people are coming from, but that is something that is very rare in my experience. It's like music is the unforgivable sin for some reason. I've sat through sermons where the preacher spoke out against Christian rock/metal artists too. They would say that the mood of the music does not give glory to God, so it is of the devil. The only music acceptable to a Christian (according to them) is piano music out of the hymnal, or instrumental classical music. I've seen churches literally split over the worship music also. The older crowd wants old school piano hymns, and the younger crowd wants a band and wants to move around and have some fun. Then the church splits because they can't agree. I could go on but I think you get the point.

Vin saying that majority of Christians will listen to people and see where they are coming from is demonstrably false. I went to a private college with STRONG Baptist influences and only 1 church group out of the higher numbered dozens that actually would sit and talk with people in a civil rational way. The rest wouldn't have any of it with statements such as "if you listen to metal you're going to hell" and "gamer's don't belong in Heaven." From my experience, Sori is very accurate upon saying that a lot of Christians and Christian groups will not meet in the middle ground when discussing with others about their religion.

21:00 time frame. sori is actually right. most christians/people in general, consider metal as being devil music by default. And would say that "good christians" should not listen to or review that type of music. implying that it wrong. the fact that your channel is called "christians react to..." atests to that alone. And probably why you have half the viewers you have. And why they're surprised to see you guys react to not only metal, but even death and black metal on top of it. it kinda what drew me to watch your videos and no way am I the only one.

"There's no such line in the bible stating I love you at your darkest". You are right. No EXACT words like that. What Nergal meant, you can find in Romans 5:8. Other than that, such defensive attidue from Vin is pretty surprising for me. Hiding behind "Nergal is a rock star and he acts like that" is a hypocritical defense, one of those why many of us oppose christianity. Not answering, but deflecting the questions and statements. At least Sori got close.

At 19:00 minutes I think Vin is not completely wrong. But mostly. To Sori’s point, I think Christians as a whole do this. But I think it’s the older Christians. In Vin’s defense, I think younger Christians are becoming more understanding to this concept and don’t necessarily do this. At least the ones I’ve met here. I like this song. I like that you both disagree with one another. I feel Sori is slowly migrating to the dark side! I think Vin is giving his team too much credit. At 30:15 I agree with Sori about fame and who’s genuine and who’s just along for the ride. I’ve actually seen this happen. Kind of relates to recent events, ehem, wouldn’t you say? I bet if you all laid off the red bull you might actually get some proper rest. Just a theory.

I agree with you completely. A few things I'd like to add - as someone from Europe who's of pagan believe: You said it's a "one-way street" or something like that, Vin. Believe me, it fucking is not. Sori was perfectly right when she said "Yeah, because everyone is like you." Believe me Vin, you two are amazing unicorns among Christians. I sometimes get the feeling you, Vin, assume, that every Christian is like you and Christianity is so open and Christians are so open-minded, because whatever. They are bloody not. The looks I get, when I tell people I'm pagan...as if I had leprosy. Also, about Christianity: - the crusades - the witch hunts and the Inquisition - (violent) Christianisation of european pagans Yes, a lot of young Christians are more open about things, which is good and mostly don't try to shove their religion down people's throats and don't treat you like you're Mephistopheles, when you admit, that you don't believe in their god. To quote my mum - a faithful, very open Christian: "We say, that we 'believe in...'. It's not called knowing. I believe in god. I don't know wether "he" is actually a man or a woman or both or neither. Maybe there are multiple gods and godesses, maybe it's not a deity but just "the universe". I call it God. Other people call it differently or have multiple names for it. I don't know, that my God is the one true god, I just believe so." I've never met Christians with such an open mind like you two (well, my mum, but she probably wouldn't listen to satanists). You listen to atheists, you listen to satanists. You haven't listened to a lot of pagan stuff (be it music or their believes and world views), at least not that I know of. Which makes me a little sad. Give us a voice and lend us your ears, guys! Keep rocking! \m/

Hávamál is a very good text for understanding the values of Norse Paganism, it's Odins advice on life in general, really good read, the eddas too is good reading, but may be filled with biases, as it's written by a christian monk, but it's the only thing we have detailing the world of the pagan gods and goddesses so it's the best we have, check out Survive The Jive, he has some very informative videos about paganism and seems the be very well informed about it and especially for more reading check out his "Very Indo-European Reading List" video, which has tons of reading material on the topic. For music Eluveitie is a very good band with songs about Ancient Gaul and Gaulish celtic paganism, check out Wardruna and Heilung too which are more dark folk music than metal but still really top notch pagan music, Falkenbach is a good pagan metal band too.

He is shown to have held it in his throat because if he swallowed it he would have been destroyed and if he spewed it out the world would have suffered. It is used as an example of dealing with the worlds evil. You will have to drink it but do not swallow it so it does not destroy you and do not spew it out onto the world because that destroys others.

To Sori's point: I never really cared for religion. But was put through a short period of catholic school, and christian church with my family. I was shunned by a lot of the people in the church and was treated like a pariah, because of the way I looked, and what I listened to. It was fine with me, because it was an excuse to not have to go anymore. I've come across a lot of instances that mimicked Sori's point. But, on the other hand, I know some really good religious people. At the end of the day, its stupid when people say all of christians are bad, because of the actions of a small group of them. Also, I'm with you Vin.. There's a lot of peace in solitude.. All of my writing and a lot of my training is done in solitude. Its great to be around people and the factions in lead with my band and brand, but I feel its very necessary to be by myself again.. so I can recharge.

Sori you’re absolutely correct... I’ve grown up in the church (Baptist) my entire life and my dad is a pastor. I never felt “touched” or “loved” by a god of any kind. I just recently was able to be myself since I moved out and turned 19. I’ve always seen the “box” religion and/or religious people put people into. I’ve been a “disappointment” through my music taste, clothing, and outlook on life. I’m an atheist and enjoy the fundamental philology LaVeyan Satanism. No the mental and physical rejection was not what pushed me away from religion, but it had its play.

Not necessarily, but Thelema does honor the Satan figure. "The Devil” is, historically, the God of any people that one personally dislikes. This has led to so much confusion of thought that THE BEAST 666 has preferred to let names stand as they are, and to proclaim simply that AIWAZ, the solar-phallic-hermetic “Lucifer,” is His own Holy Guardian Angel, and “The Devil” SATAN or HADIT, the Supreme Soul behind RA-HOOR-KHUIT the Sun, the Lord of our particular unit of the Starry Universe. This serpent, SATAN, is not the enemy of Man, but He who made Gods of our race, knowing Good and Evil; He bade “Know Thyself!” and taught Initiation. He is “the Devil” of the Book of Thoth, and His emblem is BAPHOMET, the Androgyne who is the hieroglyph of arcane perfection." - Aleister Crowley

David Heller I have a 2 fold answer for you. I think Christ himself gave us that Criteria, you will know my followers by their fruits. Paul detailed in Galatians the fruit of the spirit, and Peter came to a similar conclusion when he spelled out the qualities of a Christian. Love, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self control, against these things there is no law. It isn't my place to judge who may or may not be "real," and I would never do so, because it is between a person and God the condition of their heart. However I see no fruit! I have statistics on things like Chruch attendance vs percentage of those who claim to believe that have any kind of deep Exegetical understanding. Maybe 20% of Christians know what they believe and why, and where to find it. Even worse, of those 20%, how many actually do anything about it?! I hope that adequately answers your question

Vin, while you are correct about the "I loved you at your darkest" not being in the Bible it is understood that that saying comes from this phrase in Romans it's a paraphrased version to get the point across. "While we were yet helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Why, one will hardly die for a righteous man - though perhaps for a good man one will dare even to die. But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us." Romans 5:6-8" I'm also surprised to see your "research" on the "Is God to live in a dog?" coincided exactly with my post in the lyric video.

Vin, I'm not trying to come off as a smartass, but you have a certain naivete when it comes to the subject of what the majority of Christians say or do to those around them as it pertains to this kind of music. It is an extremely close minded subject. When I was going to church as a teenager and so much of the newer music in the early and mid 90s was becoming more and more extreme, I tried to have conversations about this kind of stuff in Sunday School, with the pastor of the church, and with my own family. In the end all I ever got out of it was punishment, ridicule, and a certain level of hate. I grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee in an Evangelical setting, which later on shifted to Southern Baptist. Even though I was devout at this point, the rumors started going around that I had been talking with other kids that were into that kind of music, looking into that kind of music, and reading about other religions. I was never looked at the same after that. I was constantly left out of church functions, people would be congregating after the service and if I came walking up, they would just walk away. It went as far as the pastor of the church actually having a meeting with me about why I was doing the things I was doing. I was doing everything I could to learn about things to be able to talk to other people because I wanted to be a youth minister, and hoped to go on to be a pastor someday.

When my pastor sat down with me to discuss being part of the ministry, he told me that I didn't deserve it because of my dalliance with satanism. He said that by me studying the things I was studying, and listening to the things I was listening to, I was giving power to evil. Two weeks later, the same man told my stepfather to divorce my mother, who was in a mental institution at the time, because the only thing that was wrong with her was we had allowed Satan into the house and she was the weakest of us. He said to divorce her and the church would stand behind him and help however they could. I never went back.

had some experiences that fall kinda into that category. for higher school, i went to a private school run by the Dehonists (order of monks). While the school was supposedly open for all other religions or atheists, in religious education you could feel hostility to non-christians, often in a subtle way. Especially against muslims or one buddhist we had (they were obviously the 0.1% minority). Same with the head of school, also a padre who in my first years was something like a father figure to me. When I met him by chance years later and told him I pursue now to study biology, his face became instantly hardened and he had a cold demeanor towards me. The problem I have with large masses of followers of whatever (I have no proof for this but believe it to be somewhat true) is that they NEED an outside, outcast, "enemy" group to themselves have a strong bonds between highly individual persons that are just gathered by that ONE thing (whether that is religion, your favorite sports club or whatever. Fans of Soccer here can become especially nasty in some cases when they meet fans of another team)

I really believe that nergal is enraged with God because he somehow allows his representatives on earth to do all those atrocities and instead of recognizing and punishing him they justify it, hide it, and instead persecute those who point them out for everything bad that they do, in the end I think nergal is closer to the grace of God for being a good person and point out what seems wrong, instead of many who are living under the roof that is supposed to be the house of God , since immemorial time the church has persecuted those who do not commune with them making them see how demons when many times the demons are under a tunic ..

WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!! I just noticed, after listening to this and a few other lyric breakdown videos, you both do all sorts of metal but i haven't noticed any of the Still Life or Blackwater Park tracks broken down in your perspective. Maybe you have, maybe I have missed them/it. :(
