The writer/director of this video also made Watain's Nuclear Alchemy video and also the Eric Danielson documentary, among other things. Niklas Kvarforth is the brains behind the band 'Shining'. He is known to have come up with the concept of suicidal black metal and has in the past encouraged people to commit suicide and self harm. He seems to take pride that people have supposedly committed suicide under the influence of his music. Also, the necklace Niklas is wearing (Hendecagram) is an anti-cosmic theistic satanic symbol. It appears on the cover of Dissections last album Reinkaos and represents the 11 anti-cosmic Gods/Devils/Forces that comprise the Azerate (aka, The Dragon Goddess Tiamat). It's an important symbol to Chaos Gnostics and I would not take it's appearance in this video as meaningless.

Capturing and expanding upon that feeling of being lost in a forest is one major thing which made "The Blair Witch Project" so effectively scary. And as to finding out that your reality is an illusion, the moment in "Fight Club" that turned the movie inside out was both mesmerizing and terrifying. This video and song encapsulate both of those ideas perfectly.

As soon as I seen they released a song called A Forest, I said, I bet it's cover for the Cure song. I hate cover songs! So many bands have done cover songs of this band over the years..don't like any of them. I absolutely love the Cure, I like the more darker Goth Cure than the "pop" Cure, pop Cure isn't too bad though. I remember living in Arizona when I was a kid I think I was about 9 or 10 and my friend had 2 older sisters and one of them was watching MTV and the video for the song The Caterpillar (one of the pop songs) was on and her dad flipped out and for the next few years they weren't allowed to have a TV in the house..lol. They were a christian family..i remember he was so mad..lol This particular Cure song is from their second album Seventeen Seconds which is where they turned more Goth..they actually started out as punk with their first album and I think i read where Robert Smith loved Joy Division (both bands started in the late 70's hard to believe) that he was inspired to become a darker more goth band. That album is so good that it's a shame that (at least to me) the production of the album doesn't really capture the mood or the beauty of the songs. I think they even used a from machine. He talked in a previous video (think it was the Megadeth song A Tout Le Monde) about a certain band he won't react to, and it was pretty obvious that it was Shining. I don't agree with him, I'm just stating his reasoning. And yeah, DSBM doesn't necessarily encourage suicide, Niklas encourages self destruction as he has explicitly stated that that is the purpose of his music. I just think he's an edgelord you shouldn't take seriously.

Niklas is a very disturbed man, you're right about that. also he's VERY unpleasant to be around from what i've heard. also some have noted below that he self-mutilates, that is VERY TRUE. but his band Shining (not THE Shining, thats a different band) is really good and weird if you're into depressive black metal with a bit of jazz fusion.

I have been lost in a forest for a bit, and I was much more terrified by being lost in the city. But I have never been lost in one of the mountain forests full of wolfs and bears either. I figure if I see a three scratched by a bear where I am lost I'd shit myself. Someone gives Niklas from Shining either a hug or an oscar. Then again I feel like if you try to give him either he'd stab you. :D He is a very strange, interesting, and seemingly disturbed person. I don't know how you guys would feel if you talk to him. But Shining is a great band. If you are into that kind of music, wich you two seem to be. Like the dosen't seem THAT bad, just very open about how he feels I suppose... Which is bound to make people uncomfortable - especially the darkest shit in someone's mind.

It is probably a different representation for everyone to be liberated but in the end nothing will ever be enough to make her real. Now, I know what your thoughts of Nilkas and Shining are... But I think he did a good job on the vocals here. I think that Nergal's growls wouldn't fit all too well with this more emotional atmosphere. As a song, I would have to say that it's ok. Not something that I would really want from Behemoth (And I'm not a big Shinning fan). But since it's a cover, this really does a decent job. The music video... He was almost like a mythical person and I remember being a bit scared of him. Another friend played bass in the shining between 2005-2007 and it almost killed him. Both mentally and physically.
