With Vince Gill,Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless on that stage they had in my opinion and imeasurable amount of mucical talent. Three of the best in my opinion. I hope you check out both 2 coats (good Gospel) and You'll never leave Harlan alive. (tells abit about where she came from and her background,and it makes me think of MY Grandpa,who was from Hindmam.

Possibly the most perfect song performed. Vince, Patty and Ricky are all amazing but together with this song…how does it get better?

Vince Gill---one of the best ever country singers. Vince wrote this song to honor his brother after his death. I think that's Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless singing harmony. What an incredibly beautiful song. I've heard it at least 50 times, and can't get through it without tearing up. I see it got you too. Well, that's what I want a song to do---make me FEEL! Thanks for reacting to this beautiful country song. Love you, Brenda. Billy J

it's also partially written about keith whitley
@wajj18424 жыл бұрын
@@tomuchcamoflauge I didn't know that. I may have gotten Vince's reason for writing this song mixed up with the song Blake Shelton wrote about the death of his older brother.
@troyhagen98434 жыл бұрын
@@wajj1842 You are both correct. I believe he first started writing the song after Keith Whitley's death which is why it has some references to Keith like facing the devil and being no stranger to the rain. He only finished the song however after his brother's death so it was a tribute to both of them.
@SchoeneTante4 жыл бұрын
@@troyhagen9843 That is the story I heard as well. First verse was inspired by Keith Whitley's death. Then Vince finished the song after his brother died.
@JensRandolff3 жыл бұрын
@@wajj1842 Vince Gill started writing the song initially to honor Keith Whitley. Hence the line "you were no stranger to the rain." However, he finished and performed the song to honor his brother.

This song was recorded 25 years ago and in those 25 years it has become the number one song to be played at funerals knocking Amazing Grace out of that top spot. My husband died 11 years ago and I had this song played at his funeral. I attended two other funerals that same year and this song was played at both of those funerals as well. Beautiful song. Very touching lyrics, awesome tune and outstanding harmony from Patty and Ricky.

Definitely beautiful. There's something magical about about the blend of Vince & Patty Loveless's voices (that's her and Ricky Skaggs with Vince here). Vince & Patty have done a few duets over the years - my absolute favourite being My Kinda Woman My Kinda Man, please have a listen to that one, it's so very romantic (I've known a few couples who've used it as their wedding dance song).

Vince has the same kind of angelic voice as Amy Lee. Str8 from God. While this song may not show it, he is a phenomenal guitar player too. When the Eagles need someone to play for them and they call you, you know you are a guitar bada**.

Yes it is a sad but beautiful song. But this is traditional country and i love it. But one thing you will notice about country is this... very few cuss words or songs about killing cops and referring to women disrespectfully or very little violence. I think country is underated. Hey try patsy cline.... "crazy ....and " walking after midnight...she has a very unique voice and she sings beautifully.
