LYRICS:
I know your life
On earth was troubled
And only you could know the pain.
You weren't afraid to face the devil,
You were no stranger to the rain.
Go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done.
Go to heaven a-shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son.
Oh, how we cried the day you left us
We gathered round your grave to grieve.
I wish I could see the angels faces
When they hear your sweet voice sing.
Go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done.
Go to heaven a-shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son.

He wrote that when his brother died. He said he never expected it to catch on like a wild fire but he's glad it brings comfort to so many people.

1st Verse honours country artist Keith Whitley. "I'm no Stranger to the Rain" is directly referenced by Vince in the opening phrase. 2. 2nd verse was written for his brother. Having sung w my own family in Ministry, there's nothing like tight family harmony. It is a bond only God can break.

My wife's nephew of 35 years just today passed away from an aggressive cancer. He left behind a young wife and 3 young children. The cancer was diagnosed only 3 months ago, and just 1 month before that this young man became an ordained minister of Jesus Christ. I could find no better song to post in his name than this version of this song. I cried while posting but felt peace thinking how this faithful young man is recieved into heaven. RIP Jhun.

My husband found this song after his dad died. I'd hear him listening to it every once in awhile. Then, when he had his first heart attack, he listened to it several times a day until he died a month later. It was like he was getting himself ready, and giving himself permission to go. 😢

Gill began writing this, following the untimely death of Country music superstar Keith Whitley. Gill didn't finish the song until a few years later following the death of his brother. Thus, the song is a tribute song to both Keith Whitley and Gill's brother.

My brother was murdered in 1993 at the age of 39. We spread his ashes on Camelback Mountain in Arizona. He is truly resting "....high on that mountain..." Shortly thereafter, this song came out. Vince Gill lost his brother as well--that's why he wrote this song. I woke up the other morning thinking about this song. I miss him so very much...time doesn't always heal the wound...

You know when I was in jail somebody asked me if I knew this song ask me to sing it for him and nine pod got so quiet and listen to this song that they didn't know what else to say few of them broke down in tears rest of them just went silent you know this song means a lot to me hope it means alot to you I hope it touches you and bring you peace you ever have a hard time just know God the Father is going to pick you up and carry you through those hard times he said he'd never leave us nor forsake us with you even until the end of the world John chapter 14 he said for us to let not your heart be troubled yet believe in God believe also in me and my father's house are many mansions if it were not so I would have told you said I go away to prepare a place and if I go away to prepare a place I'll come again and receive you unto myself that where I am there you may be also and if I go you know in the way you know little further on down he said I am the way the truth and the light no man cometh unto the father but by me in Philippians chapter 4 verse for he said rejoice in the lord always and again I say rejoice let your moderation be made known unto all men that the Lord is at hand he said be careful and everything but with prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving for us to let her requests be made known unto God and the peace of God which passes all understanding so keep our hearts and Minds through Christ Jesus Isaiah 54:17 he said I build my house upon a rock and the Gates of Hell shall not Prevail against it we as Christians need to be on fire for God we need to move our sinful flesh out of the way rebuke Satan and do what God wants us to do if we resist Satan he has to flee God wants you to leave everything at his feet and let him do it he wants you to turn it over to him he wants to move for you for what profit shall a man gain if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul he said that if we ask we shall receive pray and our prayers will be answered seek and we shall find and if we not it will be opening to us isn't it time we turn everything over to God

I HAVE heard my Dad sing this Daywind track played graveside, from the cab of his truck, too many times to count. He is an ordained music pastor, now fighting a losing battle with Alzheimer's. I will be seeking the proper rendering of this, to play at his funeral. Probably the Carnegie Hall one. He adores Vince and Ricky Skaggs. Our Uncle was a Louisiana Bluegrass Gospel HOF Fiddle player before Cancer took him Home. Allison's step-out at Carnegie reminds me of my Uncle's tone. We love the tune, for its lyrics and the players for their Gift.

We lost our good son in 2018. So sad to loose a son when he is young. Our son too had great pain. We could not find a fix. God gave us signs he is in heaven with him having peace and joy. Only God could cure him, so only with his heavenly father could get have peace and joy. This song fits so well with how things ended for my good son.

I was 4 years old when my brother passed back in 1993..he was 6..i was too young to understand what was going on. Little did I know they played this song at his funeral. Years passed and I started loving music. I found this song and started playing it in the house and my mom quickly shut off the CD player. I was confused as what I did wrong. My mom said, "remember when your brother passed?....play this song in private and listen to the lyrics..... you'll understand why I stopped it." Im the only one in the family that loves and listens to this song.

Ms. Hudson, my last name is also Hudson. Your son is with our loving Father in heaven. I almost went to heaven on April 12, 2011. That was the day i had my first back surgery. I had a near death experience. God came. He was over me . I thought i was dying. He said to me, to my mind i am here to give you my love, my comfort and peace, and he all the pain away . I wanted so much for Him to take to heaven with Him, but it wasnt my time yet. There is more that happened, i belive God also was there with your son. It was his time to go to heaven. He wanted to go like i did. God is love.

Judy Kelly Although I see your post a year later. I’m so sorry for your great loss, your precious boy. I cannot imagine the pain. May God wrap His loving arms around you and hold you very close and tight.
