Two things: This song and the new verse are nothing short of transformative for all listeners. Beyond that, as a relative newcomer to Vince Gill Land, I am so impressed at the load he carries: writing, singing, playing. And exquisitely for each. He stands tall in the great tradition of the iconic blues guitar front men, whom I always thought were the hardest working people in show business. Vince Gill, I bow humbly down in gratitude.

One of the most powerful songs written by anyone in my lifetime. This man is so real it translates in anything he does. He has an awesome voice, he makes you feel like the Guitar is talking to you, he is loved by all the people in the music industry and has played with them all over the world. I can never hear too much of Vince Gill. He writes so beautifully and has the voice of an Angel. He is like a Shower for my Soul. Thank You Vince.😢😢💜

@Vince Gill Hi Mr Gill, I am a relatively new listener, I always loved George Jones and came across your and Patty Loveless' tribute to him at his memorial and became a fan of you as well. This song is so moving, I personally dedicated it to my long time friend Rob who died a few years ago at 54 after a life long battle with alcohol. Every word has personal meaning. Thank you for Go Rest High, and many more...When I Call Your Name is another favorite. Thanks again.

almost 2years ago, my dear sweetheart with whom I spend 17 beautiful years together died of COVID. I was hurting so much for months afterwards. I asked for this song to be played at her funeral. One of the things we used to love to do on weekends was go to a local restaurant that had karaoke. After she died, I finally went there with a few family and friends, and I asked to sing this song on karaoke night, and included the new third verse. My voice was cracking with emotion during most of it. When I was finished, everyone at my table was crying, and there were tears from other tables too. Thank you, Vince Gill for giving me such a beautiful song to remember her by. I love you, MaryAlice....I know I will see you again.

We played this song, sung by him, at my mothers, sisters, grandmother's, and my mothers sisters funeral, and its during this song at each one, that i released the heavy burdens that death puts on us. God says to rejoice in death for the earthly suffering is over, and mourn in birth because their suffering has just begun, and my pain flows from my eyes, like water on the nile, as i held their hands, through their last mile, as God reminds me there's nothing to cry about.

Surrounded by his family, my daddy left this earth in August 2019. As he lay in his bed, we played this song, among others, to ease his soul. It was also played at his memorial service. And, as someone else stated in the comments, I could finally expend the grief and sadness through tears, when I heard those first few notes. Heartbreakingly beautiful and comforting. Love the addition of the 3rd verse. I hope he will re-record so people can use it.

My step mom just asked me to learn this song so I could play and sing it for her. So tonight I sat down to learn it. This has got to be the the most beautiful toughest song anybody could ever sing. The 3 chords I'm using to play it are easy. It's the words that are what makes it so tough. My step brother passed away back in 2017 unexpectedly. That's why this song holds a special place in my step moms heart. I'm gonna include this last verse when I sing it for her. That's if I can get through it far enough to make it to the last verse. This song is absolute perfection. This song is what country music was always meant to be. It's tells a story that just about all of us can relate to. A song that plays right on our heart strings. David Allen COE thought he and Steve Goodman wrote the perfect country western song and maybe they did but Vince Gill wrote the perfect country Gospel song with this song right here.

This was always my favorite Vince gill song I have commented many times on how this song reaches out to many people just recently my longtime pastor truer Johnson went to be with the Lord Memorial may 8th will be a day to Renner all the things he had done for me and my wife and children he had been on a waiting list for a kidneyfor a long time and since then he had collapsed and almost died several times bit the Lord kept him alive to keep ministering to the people he loved I write poetry and I decided to write a poem for him about his preaching and I can give you an example of how he ministered to me
@martyayres873 жыл бұрын
Several times he helped me through tough times even though he was close to death. So when I wrote the poem I had stopped by his home to see how he was doing he was overjoyed to see me. Then he asked me if he could pray for each person in my family. Well here was a man who had several brushes with death and wanted to pray for me so as I was writing this poem I decided to change a line to say with every tear that runs down my face is memory of me and truer playing beside each other at churches gospel missions and local tv station. The replacement pastor at our church said it was good to see me and that my presence at church was good to see knowing that me and truer were very close and and he could have stepped in any time and replace my real father who was someone I did not want to be like the poem is titled
