I'm actually a seasoned man of over 74 years Whenever I hear this song, I am gripped by a great sadness and I have to cry bitterly. I first heard the song at George Jones' funeral (I'm a big fan of The Posum). Vince's wonderful ingratiating voice is perfectly suited for this song

When I try to sing along to this song in my car, it always breaks up at the “Go rest high…” part. I get choked up and my eyes well up with tears. Every time. I think of Jesus’ words. Matthew 11:28-30 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Then after his horrific death and time in the Grace we’re done, the Father greets him and tells him “Go rest high on that mountain. Your work on earth is done.”

My son and I were driving from GA to CA the weekend Loretta passed and as we were passing through TN we saw the billboards for Hurricane Mills and I said we really needed to get there because I was raised on Loretta Lynn and then just a few days later as we were coming back through I saw the news that she had passed. 😢 I sent a message to my sister (back in CA) and she was as sad as I was. Our parents had all the 8-tracks (yep, we’re old lol) and she truly was the First Lady of Country Music. ❤❤❤

Truly an angel among us that touched generations upon generations of fans in the country music world as well as the motocross world. ( if you weren't aware Loretta held the biggest amateur motoX event every yr on her ranch for 41 yrs now). She is truly loved by so many and will be missed by all. God had called her home now, where I'm sure Doo, her children, Conway and Patsy are all singing along with Vince. RIP Miss Loretta. 🙏

Beautiful. My mother was a Vince Gill Superfan who volunteered at his charity golf tournaments. She died last year on October 1st and has been gentle on my mind nonstop these past few weeks. This song, especially being sung by her "Vinny", is so lovely and uplifting as I remember her.

We had this played at the end of our 17-yr old son's funeral, and it still makes me cry! There were so many people who'd never heard this song, and said "it was a beautiful song with a powerful message" and I agree with them! He's been gone 21 years and it still feels like it happened today! Then, my husband died 9 years ago, and I asked for it to be played at the end of his funeral! I felt like he'd like for us to play it for him, too! I love this song, even if it does make me cry! It's sung straight from Gil's heart!

Over the next several decades she would be married,have six children, and rise to fame as a singer and songwriter of country music. For her hard work,pioneering career and stigma breaking songs she would earn the title Queen Of Country Music. She was a member of the Grand Ole Opery, The Country Music Association Hall Of Fame, and the National Songwriters Association Hall of Fame. She won several Grammy Awards for her top hit songs such as Coal Miner’s Daughter,Don’t Come Home,A Drinking,With Loving On Your Mind,The Pill, Your Looking At Country, and Fist City. She was truly a one of a kind legend and will never be forgotten or replaced. She is greatly missed by her family, friends and fans. Mrs. Loretta Lynn passed away peacefully at the age of 90 in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee on October 4th,2022. She is buried on the property of the Loretta Lynn Ranch beside her late husband of 56 years Oliver Mooney (Doolittle) Lynn. Vince is top notch. I've heard this song, and even done this song myself at memorial services, and I heard two things different. It sounds like a guitar used a tremolo and also sounds like Vince added another verse, the one after the fiddle solo. I had the privilege of meeting both Vince and Amy, before they got married in March 2000, in Jan 2000 at the PHX Open golf tournament. Both are down to earth, classy folks. I hope that Amy is on the mend after her bicycle accident. My wife and I saw her in concert here in the valley in Jan of this yr. About a two and a half hr concert. And what I admire about her even more, is that she is not shy about sharing her faith in her concerts. God bless them both.
