Isn’t this a Singer 15? I believe you can drop the feed dogs on this machine via the knurled screw underneath to the front of the feed dogs. Turn it counterclockwise. May need a bit of oil if it hasn’t been used anytime recently. The vests are awesome and inspiring! Just love all your detailed work! The dark green is my favorite! I am in love with all three of them, especially that laying them down really makes it look like a leaf with armholes. I understand the frustration of the 2nd one being too dense and hard to see all the work you put in from a distance, but truthfully it is so beautiful I don’t even mind that. I also love that if you flipped it inside out it makes me think of some royal, high court type costume that would be worn in fantasy fae realms. The brown is the sweetest though, and shows the progress you made from first to last. Also, once again thank you for not gate keeping the sewing knowledge that you use and learn along the way. Even if the majority of people won’t go on to make their own, I think it is so special to see SO many minute details come together to make the final products. It certainly gives inspiration for techniques you can use in your own way too. Congrats on another round of finished projects that are simply delicious to my crow-brain. You are truly a joy to watch.

Wow great video, you really out done yourself here, those vest came out beautiful. Im no stranger to sewing, and I do have a few vintage machines myself, so what I would do for the machine is you can go to the machine motor and where the graphite brushes are (usually covered by a plastic screw cover) take out the brushes (one at a time) and pull on or elongate the springs a bit, this will make them contact the motors stator and should fix you speed issues, those brushes create the conductivity for the motor and petal, and since your replaced you petal and are still having issues with speed, this should help, now for the powdering the pattern, in the past tailors used to use talcum powder or corn starch filled muslin bags and powder the surface of the pattern, this is a much cheaper way of doing that. Take care and looking forward to more video.

@@vincentbriggs1780 Ok, its always good to plan ahead, but tinkering with the brushes wont mess up the machine itself, but rather hinder just the motor until new brushes are put in place, but its better to be safe then sorry. I'm working on a pair of pants that I dyed some twill green for (so it's a little bit veiny and textured, which is part of why I like hand-dying for monochrome clothing!) and now I know what the leftover fabric is going to become! I had more fabric leftover from pattern cutting than I expected and it would be so fun to sew and embroider a little leafy vest. It's interesting that you think of the vests as being a summer thing! I think I'll make a quilted one and make it slightly bigger than my actual measurements so I can wear it over my winter sweaters, I love the idea of making one as an extra funky winter layer.
@vincentbriggs178020 күн бұрын
Yay! I'm so looking forward to seeing pictures of more people's leaf vests! Huh, I hadn't thought of that but I suppose a larger one could be quite cute over a sweater. I feel like if I were going to wear it over another outer layer I'd want big dramatic sleeves, like metmuseum object 2009.300.1196a-d (But I also don't wear sweaters, and different things work for different wardrobes!)

Your videos so inspiring to watch. You are a true craftsman, all the leaf boleros turned out beautifully - my favorite it the dark green and the quilting is so well done - I’d wear it inside out just to show off the quilting 😅.. I sew, but no where near your level, I would love having your patience though 😊 I would love if more people learned how to sew basic clothes, so we could avoid fast fashion and all the problems it creates. Imagine people wearing sustainable clothes made by themselves or a family member! I wish all a happy new year and hope you will have love and joy in your lives for many years to come. Kindness doesn’t cost anything and we need love and unity - now more than ever.

As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I had to click on it, I love this type of clothing so much ! But I realize I love your style in general, I'm subcribed for a while and still haven't watched a lot of your videos because *time* and I really should. Next channel to binge soon 😊

Beautiful work on all of them. Going from simple to more complicated and increasing the number techniques used was very instructive. With some structuring it could also work for insect wings. Thanks and many blessings for 2025.

oh my god some embroidered organza or something would make gorgeous translucent insect wings

I am so excited to make my own leaf bolero! Last year I made leafkerchiefs for two dear friends as christmas gifts. This year I've been working on 18th century shirts, following your instructions, for the same two friends (as well as myself). I'm sure you can guess what I'll be making everyone for xmas a year from now lol. Thanks to your extremely thorough and meticulous tutorials, I have the confidence to tackle projects like this myself. I am so appreciative for your knowledge that you generously share with the internet, and so impressed by your skills. Thank you Vincent!

I will save watching the making of the last vest for tomorrow since it already is kind of late here in Germany. But oh my!! The quiltet leaf vest including the cording (or trapunto I would assume) is just stunning. I'm always blown away by your attention to detail and your impeckable workmanship and skills! And it's so relaxing to watch your videos. Just love them and all of your attitude. As a quilter: heads off to your very first quilting!! ❤ Ok, finished the video now and the brown leaf is just stunning as well. Regarding bastig spray: there are different products and it should say "washabke" on the can. they are out there for sure. But I switched to making my own basting spray with flour, water and vodka (or any other strong alcohole with little smell for preservation). There are recipies out there (just look for "stringandstory" and homemade basting spray, she has a great tutorial). And you must let it dry completely before starting the quilting and you need a good spray bottle. Maybe you will give it a try :) And washing after you finished the quilting is mandatory as well since otherwise it can attract bugs (and not the cute ones).

You are amazing!!! Please continue to do videos. I love your content and you are very good at dialogue for the projects. Your music choices are spot on and just so you know...YT has changed A LOT in the last 6 months, so your videos should get "suggested" much more than they used to. Putting out "regular" videos is key (from what I hear/know). Anyway, I hope to see MORE videos by Vincent Briggs...you are very talented. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us.

Praying for you to meet a gentletoad of means who will patronize you as his personal tailor for the remainder of your days. This is seriously beautiful work.

The brown one is definitely also my favorite. The colors and the textures are just *chef's kiss. But the dark green one is awesome too, I love the quilted texture even though it's a bit more subtle

When embroidering with perle cotton or embroidery floss, I try to keep my stitches loose because I know they'll shrink a bit when I wash the garment. Lots of work in any case, and you've done a splendid job!

this is the first video i've seen from you, and i can already tell that i'm going to learn so much from you and gain so much inspiration from you. i love that you very casually give tips and tricks, both not assuming that people know what materials you're using, but also not going into so much detail on every single thing - assuming that people can seek what information they might be missing. the attention to detail in both your craft and your video creation is wonderful. i feel like i'm in Oberons court learning from his personal tailor - it's delightful :3
