Note on Steven Bartlett and Diary of a CEO - He is like Rogan, lets people on to talk nonsense about health. He had ex UK prime minister Boris Johnson on claiming that Covid was from a lab, etc... Even the BBC called Bartlett out for doing so, they made a whole documentary about him.

"lets people on to talk nonsense about health. "I agree. However, I will also add that he's had on people who do not talk nonsense. Basically, I think he's less about promoting conspiracies per se, and more focused on the monetization of his show and his friends or connections (cross pollination, I suppose). I mean, he will perhaps intentionally or unintentionally promote conspiracies to the extent they bring in the $ or the £ or € as the case may be.

Hi Vincent, glad to know today is your birthday! Happy birthday! 🎉 I love your red sweater. To celebrate your special day, I’ve donated an extra $10 on top of my monthly donation. I’ve always been deeply moved by your unwavering commitment to clarifying that COVID-19 is definitively nature-sourced, drawing on your extensive background in virology and experience. Again, wishing you a fantastic birthday! 2025 Yeuquing

So cool you did this on New Year's Day even though I did not catch it live! My husband and I had time to ourselves and went out to dinner after a very hectic past 2 weeks!

Someone mentioned iron lungs for respiratory viruses. An iron lung works well for paralytic hypoventilation, but would be ineffective for hypoxemia caused by respiratory viruses. For hypoxemia we need to deliver high concentrations of oxygen under higher pressures both of which can cause damage to the lungs if not fine-tuned to optimal levels.

Thank you redhen. When that was mentioned, I was stunned!, as I didn't know anything about that and was momentarily buoyed by the notion that there was a more benign way to prevent long-term intubation (Vincent said forced air, not intubation, to be fair) in Covid pts in the ICU.

@ There are 2 causes of respiratory failure. One is primarily neuromuscular (good lungs but weak muscles). The other would be pulmonary inflammation, where the lungs aren’t working, but the muscles are. Eventually the muscles do get fatigued so then it becomes a combination of the two types of failure. Then there is ECMO where we take the blood and run it through a heart-lung machine and then back into the patient. It’s only utilized in the most severe cases though.

Re C19 origin: It would be more effective if you simplified the available data and taught how to compare likelihoods, while acknowledging uncertainty. Non scientists can't easily appreciate evidence that you might deem as decisive (Worobey 2 lineages). Most people start with a gut suspicion based on common sense: How should they think about the probability of origination being so very close to a major CV research lab, given that unintentional lab leaks have occurred elsewhere in the past, and that it is human nature to cover up accidents? Distinguish logical vs emotional reasoning, without discounting common sense.
