So, some trivia about this emulator and it's creators. This emulator was made by one Icer "Sardu" Addis of Bloodlust Software. Sardu created this, _Callus,_ (the CPS-1 emulator), and _Genecyst_ (the Sega Genesis emulator) on his own. His programs and their features, such as on-the-fly tile/color editing and movie playback, really helped shape the emulation scene. It's really sad that he discontinued his projects because of the source code hacking incident with Donald "Mindrape" Moore. He truly was a pioneer of emulation and a damn good coder. I really enjoyed the Bloodlust Software games he and Ethan "Hellbent" (not _that_ one) Petty - whose name you may recognize from _Watch_Dogs_ - made, back on the 90s. I wonder what he's up to, these days. I never got the chance to meet him… or, give him my thanks. *Side-note:* v0.31 of _NESticle_ is where things start getting more accurate, for the curious. In fact, several games that were tried here - _Battletoads, __-The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino and Hoppy-__ 7 Grand Dad, Jeopardy!_ - work fairly well in that version.

Basically, what random lolz said. Sadru and Ethan were post-High School students, at this time, and had previously worked on games with more blood, mutilation, and midgets, than _any Mortal Kombat_ game, almost-always played for laughs. Sometimes, though, these jokes went somewhere. For example, Shitman - the self-proclaimed "the lord of the log" - was going to be a major antagonist in a Bloodlust Software run-and-gun game called "DisGRUNTled." I forget what his exact role was, but it had something to do with backing up the city's sewer system. The protagonists - two over-medicated old farts who broke out of their retirement home with Uzis - would have to gun him down. In the proof-of-concept demo, there's even a giant mound or volcano made of crap and filled with urine, though it doesn't do anything. On a related note… if anyone's curious about Buddy, his (unofficial?) story can be found in the demo version of _TimeSlaughter._ He used to be a perfectly normal guy… but, after playing the _TimeSlaughter_ demo, he sold his Chess set and registered the game, after which his IQ "increased" by "100 fractions," and made him "very special," according to his mom. That kind of humor wouldn't fly, these days, but back in the 90s, it was god damn _hilarious!_

@MarioManTV

Missing those tiles is technically inaccurate emulation, since the garbage is present on real hardware, but gets cropped off by older TVs. Emulating TV overscan would fix that right up.

20:23 It's not the Amstrad or the Amiga. The Amstrad was around as sophisticated as the NES (it actually uses the same CPU that's in the Sega Master System, and for that matter Nintendo Gameboy), and the Amiga is a legendary 16 bit (and later 32 bit) computer that is frankly competitive with stuff like the SNES and Sega Genesis (technologically anyway). The Amiga even has a built in 4 channel chip that can play sample based music, not as good as the one in the SNES, but keep in mind this thing came out in the 80s. There's even a pretty good port of Quake 3 for later Amigas, but it needs some heavy upgrading. You're probably thinking of the ZX Spectrum or something thereabout. Late 70s and early 80s 8-bit computers were the ones with notoriously crusty graphics, even the Apple II qualifies here.

@@brendan9734 My earliest experience with PJ64 was with 1.4, a lot of games looked like ass, but for some reason ran better and crashed less than with 1.6, Majora's Mask, for example, would crash when turning into a goron in all versions except 1.4, but the game lacked lighting and shading, it looked like one of those trash slenderman clones.

the show "icons" on g4 used the sept 1997 build of nesticle for a lot of their footage for some reason, despite many better emulators around by 2003 also I didn't really get lag with this emu back in the day, at least with the later builds. this first one was probably terrible running on dos

I like grinding in JRPGs yet I still didn't quite like Earthbound Beginnings, don't get me wrong there was a lot of charm to it but after 6 or 7 hours in, something wasn't clicking for me so I bailed out, honestly playing it felt a bit like a chore, I guess you need a very specific mindset and a lot of patience to play 8-bit RPGs in general, they're VERY limited, totally understandable but difficult to go back to.

I felt the same way. I genuinely WANT to love the game, but I just can't. Thank god someone's remaking it in Earthbound's engine.

The Metroid password destroying NES consoles isn't true. Mine survived me trying it with both of my copies, the normal silver and the rare yellow cartridge. Yep, I risked bricking an uncommon cartridge (because I don't think there's anything to actually break on the game). :D On a real console it just freezes on a blank screen. The GBA version (unlocked on Zero Mission) is smart enough to detect that something has gone wrong and resets the game.

Being born in 2003 i unfortunately wasn't able to experience the absolute majesty that was this, but felt enough of a part of history with my dad telling me I had to be careful playing Mario Kart 64 because it made his computer overheat. He also talked about early Dolphin, and i remember thinking "no way, your computer can't run that"
