RadianSCT I understand what you mean, but Johnny misses about half of all command signals given, so he's not as applicable to my question. Most of the time he's just dragged to the objective, and acts as little more than an afterthought with an XM8. Perfect example of what I mean: during the first FROG attack, Meryl's squad communicates visual information via hand signal. Johnny, who is (as usual) covering the rear flank, misses the hand signals and therefore the tactical input, he is patted on and pointed in the general direction of the current objective as an afterthought, making signals directed at him utterly useless. We've seen countless times that Johnny is the "least important" combat-wise, and is therefore overlooked in multiple situations, which is overall, the fault of the game's script. So my argument still stands, if the "linked" soldiers in a squad share visual input because of their nanomachines, why are the linked members of RAT patrol communicating via hand signals? My only reasoning is that Kojima thought hand signals were tacticool, and completely ignored his own "Nanomachine Bible," as it were. Of course some of this is just my opinion, and if asked, Kojima would probably use Johnny as an excuse for this general oversight.

A thing to seriously keep in mind for the future Acts; there are usually two factions fighting each other. You can befriend one of those factions, while the other is always hostile. You can tell which oneis which by the gear they have; the always hostile PMCs universally wear professional uniforms and carry advanced weaponry, while the factions you can side with have gear more fitting for rebels. And in the third Act, the good guys wear trench coats and whistle a tune constantly.

And within at least the first Act, there are sections the Militia control (places where the big PMCs aren't present), and if you're neither hostile, friendly, or disguised, they'll get somewhat alarmed and tell you to stay put so that they can check you and make sure you aren't an enemy.

***** Phantom Plot barely had any story, mainly because it was unfinished though. You track down Skullface, there's there's the virus outbreak, you fix it, you kill Skullface, Liquid's story is never explained, Psycho Mantis is never explained. But this was all because of the missing part of the game I assume. I think some of it might have been explained in the tapes, but those details should have taken center stage in the story.

Almost all of it was explained in the tapes, much like Peace Walker. The game wasn't as unfinished as people think, Kojima and KojiPro really just took an odd route to try to appeal to the public masses more by putting the story in the backseat and the gameplay first.

This was my first ps3 game, as well as my first entry into the franchise. All of the closed threads made me want to go back and play through the history of the franchise starting from the MSX. I have such a deep appreciation for Kojumbo , his story, and his vision and I have a HUGE nostalgic soft spot for this game. When you look past the mounds of cutscenes (which there are way too much), I think MGS4 has some of the best gameplay in the series. It combines the good parts of 2 and 3, and made things like camo and weapons more convenient. It'd be cool if people didn't just instantly jump on the "lol 5 second gamplay movie lol" bandwagon.

I think the feeling of it was great, though it really lacked balance and challenge. Snake has a million guns that largely serve the same function and even the worst of them make quick work of any enemy, if that effort had been directed elsewhere I think the result would've been a much more tonally appropriate game, as well as a more polished one. They really dropped the ball by not having Snake's age play a role in gameplay, I would've preferred a much more difficult game in which Snake has to very slowly and carefully make his way through the battlefield to avoid dealing with enemies in better shape. In the cutscenes the idea that Snake is no longer special due to SOP is presented, but if you take a basic handgun Snake can kill hundreds of enemies with zero effort- that would've been an incredibly interesting idea to not only see in the story but experience through gameplay. In 2 an alert was potentially game ending, in 4 it's something to roll your eyes at and fix in a minute.

Man, it's so strange to watch the gameplay of MGS4 after V. 4 seems so much more.. refined? There's so many little touches, the levels feel so streamlined and refined- and it's so nice having cutscenes and characters. It's also interesting how much of an effect modern gaming has on V- stuff like waiting for weapons to develop, grinding for weapon levels that just don't exist in 4.

So no joke, my brother actually fell asleep during the cutscene where you meet "Matka Pluku". You see, there's a reason why everyone jokes about MGS4 being "a movie". Anyone who says otherwise probably just skips most of the cutscenes. Whenever I play this game, I always skip the scenes with Big Mama at the very least.

The online portion of this game was something else, too. In its twilight days, a lot of the people just fucked around; I myself actually used MGO to roleplay with folks. I actually made an everlasting friendship in MGO. That's right, six years ago, I met someone in some weird, watered down shooter that hardly anyone took seriously and we're still friends to this day.

Oh god, I remember that glitch. Funny thing is, people *actually* went and revived MGO2. And people *still* perform that glitch. I actually remember having fun being an instructor, even if I (most likely) didn't actually give valuable advice.

The scenes with big mama were some of my favorite plot wise. I remember sneaking out of bed really late to play this game while my brother watched and we'd watch all the cutscenes and not say a word. Was like the only time we got along lol
