I love the concept of Whiplash. The rabbit is immortal due to having too much beauty products and hairspray being test on him. He can't die from his injuries, but he can still feel pain. A lot.

Especially when looking at other similar "reboots" like Rygar or Ninja Gaiden, or even just GoW and DMC. Such an odd direction to take a werewolf concept. Like someone at SEGA was bingeing Blade and Underword at the time.

I had to learn more about Gift when I saw it because it was too strange to come out of nowhere. Apparently the creator, the lead designer and writer et al, is a fairly famous Quebec French comic author with ties to Disney and a few French-Named comics that are highly lauded. So it wasn't JUST a weirdo nonsense slightly perverted game idea that seemed totally out of left field. It was FRENCH!

I remember renting the ATHF game as a kid, and being so excited since I had no idea it existed either. Imagine my disappointment when I was expecting a Simpsons Hit-and-Run sort of clone, and got golf. I was so blown away by the fact that an ATHF game was available to rent at my local store that I didn't even bother to read the game's description. EDIT: Also Vinny Meatwad is NOT a chicken nugget, he is simply a meatball. The movie (not the recent one, the one from pre-2010) revealed a character from the gang's past, Chicken Bittle, who actually _was_ a giant talking chicken nugget.

Project Altered Beast is actually a pretty cool idea idea in my opinion. While the controls are a little stiff, and a lock-on mechanic would REALLY help this game out, I love how gory the transformations are, and the unlockable forms are also pretty cool too. Sad we never got it released in the USA, even though I know the reason why...

@@animeloveer97 I think it had Broodwich and three others. But it's been awhile and I have the series set of the pre-revival era of the show. So I haven't had the occasion (or incentive; read below) to go and replay the game. This is the kind of game that's fun playing through exactly once. Because after that, you aren't really going to want to replay the game just for the cutscenes. The gameplay itself is mediocre and not that great. It's really the cutscenes that sell it, and after you beat it once, you'll just go look up a playthrough of the game if you want to see the cutscenes again.

There are several reasons. First and foremost, most of them made past like 08 were sports/wrestling games, because all you have to do is slap in a few new models and update stats. Second, it was the highest selling console ever so it had the largest install base. The third and more interesting reason though is that Japan has a very different philosophy when it comes to legacy hardware, ie they milk that shit DRY up until the 11th hour. There were still Famicom games coming out in Japan in 91-92, and not from like small devs. From like Technos and other heavy hitters. Likewise that's why Nintendo and Sony's consoles and handhelds take FOREVER to die off while Microsoft and western devs immediately move onto the next gen. Honestly, I kind of prefer the former approach to the latter as someone who's poor, but it is what it is.

Back in the day it was much harder to port forward a game to a new generation of hardware without starting all over due to the massive differences between generations. The only exception was the Gameboy because Nintendo kept the same processor around as a sound generator on the Color and Advance, meaning you could run the entire game on that processor if you wanted. If you started a project in 1990 for the NES without knowing when new hardware is coming, you finished the game on the NES and released in 1992. The Genesis was a strange case because it shared architecture with the X68000, and since the X68000 had community support until the IBM PC and Windows 98 took over you had big studio Genesis games still coming out all the way until 1998. The final consoles to really linger on were the Xbox 360 and PS3 since the Xbox One/Xbox Series and PS4/PS5 are cross generation compatible. Though it seems last generation consoles getting new releases is happening all over again, seeing as how people don't have a reason to get a new console if their current one has all the games the new one does. The PS5's really been hit hard with this, as there have been no big PS5 exclusives.

@@VulpesHilarianus I think a lot of it is also just differences in consumer culture between the west and the east. Japan is VERY pragmatic/utilitarian when it comes to their consumer culture, and this extends into video games. In fact it's almost perfectly exemplified by it. Like, you can say it's about technological gaps, but I think it's just genuinely wanting to hit the broadest amount of consumers rather than expecting them to upgrade ASAP. A great example is that Mega Man & Bass/Rockman Forte was created SPECIFICALLY for the sake of Mega Man fans who didn't own a PSX and therefore couldn't play MM8. Or how Dragon Quest 11 got a 3DS demake for seemingly no reason other than just being able to put DQ11 on as many platforms as possible. And the 3DS is one of the pinnacles of this tbh. JP companies seem to actively try to meet legacy hardware demands and allow for a slower transition rather than just immediately jumping ship and expecting consumers to follow.

Vin should do a "Weird N64 Games" stream some day. Hybrid Heaven for example, is a pseudo turn based kinda survival horror where you do wrestling moves and punch mutants and hybrids in the face. The level design also smells like a mako reactor from Final Fantasy VII. It's rad.

I might want to recommend portal runner for this. The game isn't really "weird" but it is unintentionally funny and has an absurdly dumb history. It released on 9/11 and when it got a lukewarm at best reception the dev had a hilariously angry and immature reaction to it. At least from what I read before.

It's great seeing a bunch of weird games in segments like these but I really wish he could try finishing one of them. They feel forgettable otherwise. What even was the last weird game he played to completion? Last I can remember is that point and click claymation game. Edit: to clarify I meant multi part playthroughs. He's completed some weird games in one offs lately like babddie, choo choo charles, and chop goblin. I just like the feeling of anticipating another part and repeatedly coming back to a weird game that others shrug off

Gregory Horror Show is still a really good candidate for Weird PS2 Games, but you need to play more than ~20 minutes to get the full experience. Though seeing the character introduction cutscenes and maybe Horror Shows might be interesting.

Half the reason it has that reputation is because people decided to sub it in in place of "the other symbol" to avoid upsetting people... or something. Because I guess depicting Nazi's with accurate Nazi imagery is offensive somehow, so instead let's just sully the name of a centuries old German military honor.

@@warbossgegguz679 What we now call the swastika is far, far older than the Iron Cross and was much more revered. Good things tend to be ruined in the public eye when terrorists intentionally co-opt them to represent mass genocide and warmongering. And no, the swastika's meaning is not changed by its orientation. The Nazi variation is in a particular orientation but this doesn't make people okay with the other ones.

The level select hub was very Crash Bandicoot-esque for Gift. No idea what Vinny was on about. But apparently "Gift is a platform game developed by French studio Eko Software that parodies elements of popular adventure games.
