The super low res graphics mixed with the fluid animation of the girl creeping up over the side of the bed is a really good effect. Your brain is kinda trained that despite it being 2017 graphics like this "shouldn't" have animation like that, so when it happens out of nowhere it seems even more out of place than it actually is.

i'd still say it feels more like a C64 inspired game than Atari 2600. the graphics alone look somewhat possible on an actual C64 while the Atari 2600 would not come close to this... same with the sound. though the voices sound like they are straight from a speak and spell.

Like exorcism, abortion is in many cases is for restoring autonomy over ones body and future. It can be emotionally turbulent to the would be parent, which is exacerbated by the widespread belief that abortion is murder. Ironically, in some cases involving a dead and decomposing fetus or carrier who is not fit to withstand childbirth, denying someone an abortion can be essentially murder and many have died in countries who will not permit it. Through the eyes of a victim of an unwanted pregnancy (not to confuse unwanted for unplanned as not all of the later are the former) , especially in life threatening cases, ones body is quite literally being possessed. Through the eyes of the church, despite both actions having the same intent, exorcism (however gruesome the process) is permitted, while a safe procedure in a supportive medical environment is taboo. This is the message I walked away from this game with. Definitely an uncomfortable topic most people try to avoid regardless of their feelings on the issue. Wondering if it did go over most peoples heads, despite no mentions of a cult and numerous mentions of a clinic. Personally, I just think no one (especially someone entertaining several thousand people on a Sunday night) wants to talk or think about abortion. Which is unfortunate because people everywhere and all around us make that decision everyday But We Aren't Allowed To Say Anything for the most part. And it's tragic.

OK I'm only to the room full of toys so far, but I just had to point out that I recognized every single multi-colored sprite in the room and it kind of freaks me out. Etch-a-Sketch and Simon, obviously, like you said, but also a Fisher-Price phone, that toy vacuum with the beads that go pop pop pop, and I'm pretty sure the red thing is a ViewMaster and the white one is a Speak-and-Spell. They probably cherry-picked the toys they could think of that were the easiest to represent that way, but still, that is _eerily_ good pixel art.

Wow it's REALLY coincidental that I'm taking a History of Games class and we just got through with studying the Intellivision and Atari 2600. This really gives me Intellivision vibes, especially with the voice work. Very atmospheric game and it emulates the earlier console's feel almost to a T.

I come back to this playthrough every few weeks to enjoy it again. FAITH is easily among my top 5 indie games, and I play a lot. Its homage to Atari graphics, the culture of the Satanic Panic which us in the 25 - 35 age range grew up with, the unsettling Microsoft Sam-style voice over, the rotoscope animation... All of it creates an incredibly effective atmosphere. Jump scares and ambient noise aren't necessary to make it unsettling, and the minimalistic art style really lets your imagination run wild. Walking through the forest while discovering clues to the story and being pursued by a creature reminds me of "found footage" horror movies from the 80s and 90s, and the story itself shows influence from classic horror film "The Exorcist" without being a try-hard replica. It's very spooky for what it is, and I feel like if FAITH had actually been released for the Atari that it would've traumatized a generation and kicked off a golden age of horror games for early consoles. It's a game deserving of recognition and one that I always recommend to anyone interested in indie horror, and it became a fast favorite among my friend group. I can't wait to see what Airdorf Games has in store for the third chapter.
